  • This paper deals with the study of bird collision avoidance measures in UAM operations from an operator's perspective. Urban air traffic is defined as a next-generation transportation system that uses environmentally friendly electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft to provide transportation services between key points within and around urban centers. For the successful establishment of the UAM industry, it is necessary to ensure safety issues that determine public acceptance. Among the hazards that can occur in aviation operations, preventing bird collisions in urban environments is a measure that can greatly secure operational safety and public acceptance. In addition to physical measures, procedural control measures are required to prevent bird strikes. In order to ensure the safety of UAM operations, this study aims to provide a direction for the establishment of UAM bird collision prevention measures by categorizing bird collision prevention measures into physical and procedural methods and flight sections such as takeoff, landing, and corridor sections. Through this, we hope to contribute to the improvement of the safety of the urban air traffic operation system.

  • This study aims to develop urban scenarios for future cities and validate the future city scenarios using a Delphi method. The scenarios of future city was derived from urban structure, land use, transportation, and urban infrastructure and development using big data analysis, environmental scanning techniques, and literature review. The Delphi survey interviewed 24 erudite scholars and experts across 6 nations including Korea, USA, UK, Japan, China, Australia and India. The Delphi survey structure was designed to test future city scenarios, verified by the 5-point Likert scale. The survey also asked the timing of each scenario likely happens by the three terms of near-future, mid-future and far-future. Results of the Delphi survey reveal the following points. Firstly, for the future urban structure it is anticipated that urban concentration continues and higher density living in global mega cities near future. In the mid-future small and medium size cities may decrease. Secondly, the land use pattern in the near-future is expected of increasing space sharing and mixed or layered vertical land-use. In addition underground space is likely to be extended in the mid-future. Thirdly, in the near-future, transport and infrastructure was expected to show ICT embedded integration platform and public and private smart transport. Finally, the result of Delphi survey shows that TOD (Transit Oriented Development) becomes a development norm and more emphasis on energy and environment fields.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the accuracy of the urban runoff and drainage network analysis by using the observed water level in the drainage network. To do this, sensitivity analysis for major parameters of SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) was performed and parameters were calibrated. The sensitivity of the parameters was the order of the roughness of the conduit, the roughness of the impervious area, the width of the watershed, and the roughness of the pervious area. Six types of scenarios were set up according to the number and types of parameter considering four parameters with high sensitivity. These scenarios were applied to the Seocho-3/4/5, Yeoksam, and Nonhyun drainage basins, where the serious flood damage occurred due to the heavy rain on 21 July, 2013. Parameter optimization analysis based on PEST (Parameter ESTimation) model for each scenario was performed by comparing observed water level in the conduits. By analyzing the accuracy of each scenario, more improved simulation results could be obtained, that is, the maximum RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) could be reduced by 2.41cm and the maximum peak error by 13.7%. The results of this study will be helpful to analyze volume of the manhole surcharge and forecast the inundation area more accurately.

  • This paper presents an application of the Ecological Interface Design (EID) theoretical framework for developing an optimal display of railway safety monitoring system (SMS) in stations. Especially, Work Domain Analysis (WDA) which is the preceding research for EID was conducted. This study proceeds as follows: First, urban railway SMS in stations was defined as a system boundary for WDA, and work environment for station personnels was analysed through Abstraction Hierarchy (AH). AH represents five levels (Functional Purpose, Values and Priority Measures, Purpose-related Functions, Object-related Process, Physical Object) of informations that station personnels obtain from work environment, and Work Domain Model (WDM) was derived as a result of the AH. To confirm how well WDM represents the real work environment of SMS, Scenario Mapping was conducted with experts who has been working as a station personnel for more than ten years. Lastly, thirteen additional information requirements that are not provided by the existing SMS as well as all the information that are provided by the existing SMS were extracted using confirmed WDM. These information requirements can be used as essential information for EID of urban railway SMS.

  • Climate and land use changes have impact on availability water resource by hydrologic cycle change. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the hydrologic behavior by the future potential climate and land use changes in Anseongcheon watershed ($371.1km^2$) using SWAT model. For climate change scenario, the HadGEM-RA (the Hadley Centre Global Environment Model version 3-Regional Atmosphere model) RCP (Representative Concentration Pathway) 4.5 and 8.5 emission scenarios from Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) were used. The mean temperature increased up to $4.2^{\circ}C$ and the precipitation showed maximum 21.2% increase for 2080s RCP 8.5 scenario comparing with the baseline (1990-2010). For the land use change scenario, the Conservation of Land Use its Effects at Small regional extent (CLUE-s) model was applied for 3 scenarios (logarithmic, linear, exponential) according to urban growth. The 2100 urban area of the watershed was predicted by 9.4%, 20.7%, and 35% respectively for each scenario. As the climate change impact, the evapotranspiration (ET) and streamflow (ST) showed maximum change of 20.6% in 2080s RCP 8.5 and 25.7% in 2080s RCP 4.5 respectively. As the land use change impact, the ET and ST showed maximum change of 3.7% in 2080s logarithmic and 2.9% in 2080s linear urban growth respectively. By the both climate and land use change impacts, the ET and ST changed 19.2% in 2040s RCP 8.5 and exponential scenarios and 36.1% in 2080s RCP 4.5 and linear scenarios respectively. The results of the research are expected to understand the changing water resources of watershed quantitatively by hydrological environment condition change in the future.

  • This study aims to establish a scenario based on the spacing and arrangement of the roadside trees to reduce heat waves and fine dust in cities that occurred during the urbanization process and to quantitatively analyze the degree of reduction. The ENVI-met 5.0.2v model, a micro-climate simulation program, was used to analyze the degree of improvement in the thermal environment and fine dust according to the roadside tree scenario. As a result of temperature analysis according to street tree spacing, the narrower the distance between roadside trees, the lower the temperature during the day as the number of planted trees increased, and a similar pattern was shown regardless of the distance between roadside trees in the morning and evening. In the case of fine dust emitted from the road, the concentration of fine dust increased slightly due to the increase in roadside trees, but the concentration of sidewalks where people walk increased slightly or there was no difference because of blocking fine dust on trees. The temperature according to the arrangement of street trees tended to decrease as the number of planted trees increased as the arrangement increased. However, not only the amount of trees but also the crown projected area was judged to have a significant impact on the temperature reduction because the temperature reduction was greater in the scenario of planting the same amount of trees and widening the interval of arrangement. In terms of the arrangement, the fine dust concentration showed a difference from the results according to the interval, suggesting that the fine dust concentration may change depending on the relationship between the main wind direction and the tree planting direction. By quantitatively analyzing the degree of thermal environment and fine dust improvement caused by roadside trees, this study is expected to promote policies and projects to improve the roadside environment efficiently, such as a basic plan for roadside trees and a project for wind corridor forests.

  • Large-scale urban developments with increasing population and expansion of industrial facilities have destroyed the ecosystem. Consequently, the importance of vertical farm as a form of urban agriculture is increasing. However, such problems of vertical farms as economy and lack of awareness of residents are being raised. Firstly, this study derived types of vertical farm that are applicable to residential spaces through an examination of vertical farm buildings, and then inferred assessment items for a questionnaire survey for the development of u-services. Secondly, based on the issues deduced from the survey, u-services needed in vertical farm buildings were derived to use them as the basic data when we plan for a ubiquitous vertical farm building in residential space in the future. As result, the following uservices of ubiquitous vertical farm were proposed: u-notification service about the condition of crops from the aspect of growth management based on ubiquitous technology, remote/automatic control u-services, harvest information u-service for harvest management, recipe information u-service, and indoor air quality monitoring u-service, indoor environment adjusting u-service, and farm environment control u-service. Considering that many new buildings in Korea are residential buildings and many high-rise buildings are being planned, studies on vertical farm buildings must be continued.

  • The Urban Transit Standardization Program has been supported by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs. The Program consists of dozen or more projects and thus is quite complex, which implies that the program success heavily depends upon the effective management of various artifacts during the development. Particularly, in the complex systems development, developing and managing requirements is very important throughout the whole system life cycle. The requirements can be the basis of the design changes to be made later as well as the test and evaluation to be performed in the subsequent stages of the systems development. As such, the derivation of the system's requirement based on the needs from the customers, or stakeholder in a broad sense must be done properly. In particular, notice that the system is being developed but the system requirements are not fully available for some reasons. To complement this situation is the purpose of the study. To derive proper requirements effectively in the process of development, this paper proposes to draw up scenario using the output of the system under development and to utilize the use case diagrams and operational scenarios.

  • This work presents a concept and the related analysis of the traffic performance for a wireless broadband system based on fixed relay stations acting as wireless bridges. The analysis focuses on the important performance indicators end-to-end throughput and delay, taking into account the effects of an automated repeat request protocol. An extension to a MAC frame based access protocol like IEEE 802.11e, 802.15.3, 802.16a, and HIPERLAN2 is outlined and taken as basis for the calculations. The system is intended for both dense populated areas as an overlay to cellular radio systems and to provide wide-area broad-band coverage. The two possible deployment scenarios for both dense urban and wide-area environments are introduced. Analytical and validating simulation results are shown, proving the suitability of the proposed concept for both of the mentioned scenarios. It is established that the fixed relaying concept is well suited to substantially contribute to provide high capacity cellular broad-band radio coverage in next generation (NG) cellular wireless broadband systems.

  • The purpose of this study is to analysis the impact on the inside of the new city when an incidents occurs on the Songdo International City connecting road, which has a limited access. The analysis data used KTDB's O/D and network data of the Seoul metropolitan area. In addition, the scenario composition applied a method of reducing the number of lanes on the road according to the situation of incidents, targeting bridges advancing from Songdo International City to the outside in the morning peak hours. The analysis method analyzed the traffic volume, total travel time, total travel kilometer, and route change in the new city based on the results of the traffic allocation model. As a result of the analysis, the range of influence was shown to two types. First, of the seven bridges, Aam 3, Aam 2, and Aam 1 were analyzed to have an impact only in some areas of the northwestern part of the new city. On the other hand, the remaining bridges were analyzed to affect the new city as a whole. The analysis results of this study are expected to be used as basic data to establish the scope of internal road network management when similar cases occur in the future.
