KUVE (KIST 무인 주행 전기 자동차)의 자율 주행 (Autonomous Navigation of KUVE (KIST Unmanned Vehicle Electric))

  • This article describes the system architecture of KUVE (KIST Unmanned Vehicle Electric) and unmanned autonomous navigation of it in KIST. KUVE, which is an electric light-duty vehicle, is equipped with two laser range finders, a vision camera, a differential GPS system, an inertial measurement unit, odometers, and control computers for autonomous navigation. KUVE estimates and tracks the boundary of road such as curb and line using a laser range finder and a vision camera. It follows predetermined trajectory if there is no detectable boundary of road using the DGPS, IMU, and odometers. KUVE has over 80% of success rate of autonomous navigation in KIST.

  • Unmanned robots are very useful for autonomous security systems. These robots navigate autonomously move in a large area for surveillance. It is very important for robots that cover such a wide area to communicate with a control systems. Therefore, the control system needs various communication methods to check the status of the robot and send/receive messages. In addition, it is necessary to provide an easy interface for the user to send security mission commands to the robot. In this paper, we propose a control system based on a variety of communication techniques to perform security by safely communicating with a number of robots in a wide area space. The proposed system designed for considering user UI, data storage and management, and shows usability by constructing it in a real environment.

  • The wave power plant is a generating system to convert the wave energy resources to electric energy. ´CHUJEON A´, which is a prototype of wave power plant developed by KORDI(Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute), has been launched for its performance test. A wound rotor induction machine is adopted as a generator for the power plant to acquire constant frequency and voltage over wide range of rotor speed. Because the generator of ´CHUJEON A´ has no connection to the power grid line on land, all of the processes to generate and consume the electricity have to be conducted on the floating plant.   • An unmanned surveillance robot consists of a machine gun, a laser receiver, a thermal imager, a color CCD camera, and a laser illuminator. It has two axis control systems for elevation and azimuth. Because the current robot system is mounded at a fixed post to take care of surveillance tasks, it is necessary to modify such a surveillance robot to be installed on an UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle) system in order to watch blind areas. Thus, it is required to have a stabilization system to compensate the disturbance from the UGV. In this paper, a simulation based design scheme has been adopted to develop a mobile surveillance robot. The 3D CAD geometry model has first been produced by using Pro-Engineer. The required pan and tilt motor capacities have been analyzed using ADAMS inverse dynamics analysis. A target tracking and stabilization control algorithm of the mobile surveillance robot has been developed in order to compensate the motion of the vehicle which will experience the rough terrain. To test the performance of the stabilization control system of the robot, ADAMS/simulink co-simulations has been carried out.

  • Present chemical application method using a power sprayer has been labor intensive, costly and ineffective. Therefore, a small agricultural unmanned helicopter was suggested to replace the conventional spray system. In this study, conceptual design for developing the helicopter and a consequential prototype were reported. The overall conceptual design was initiated by deciding the type of agricultural helicopter, as the single rotor helicopter with a tail system. As the first step of the designing, an air-cooled, 2-stroke engine was selected and a prototype transmission was designed by determining the rotating speed of main rotor shaft. A 'pusher' type tail rotor system was adapted to balance the reaction torque and reduce the power use. The tail boom length was designed to avoid the rotating trajectory of the main rotor. The RF console consisted of the engine control, attitude control, and emergency control modules. Assembling the prototype concluded the mechanical development of the agricultural helicopter.

  • This paper describes the mathematical modeling, control algorithm, system design, hardware implementation and experimental test of a Manta-type Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (MUUV). The vehicle has one thruster for longitudinal propulsion, one rudder for heading angle control and two elevators for depth control. It is equipped with a pressure sensor for measuring water depth and Doppler Velocity Log for measuring position and angle. The vehicle is controlled by an on-board PC, which runs with the Windows XP operating system. The dynamic model of 6DOF is derived including the hydrodynamic forces and moments acting on the vehicle, while the hydrodynamic coefficients related to the forces and moments are obtained from experiments or estimated numerically. We also utilized the values obtained from PMM (Planar Motion Mechanism) tests found in the previous publications for numerical simulations. Various controllers such as PID, Sliding mode, Fuzzy and $H{\infty}$ are designed for depth and heading angle control in order to compare the performance of each controller based on simulation. In addition, experimental tests are carried out in a towing tank for depth keeping and heading angle tracking.

  • This paper focuses on a horizontal waypoint tracking and a speed control of large diameter unmanned underwater vehicles (LDUUVs) with X-stern configuration plane. The concerned design problem is converted into an asymptotic stabilization of the error dynamics with respect to the desired yaw angle and surge speed. It is proved that the error dynamics under the proposed control scheme based on the linear control and the feedback linearization can be considered as a cascade system; the cascade system is asymptotically stable if its nominal systems are so. This stability connection enables to separately deal with the waypoint tracking problem and the speed control one. By using the sector nonlinearity, the nominal system with nonlinearities is modeled as a polytopic linear parameter varying (LPV) system with parametric uncertainties. Then, sufficient linear matrix inequality (LMI) conditions for its asymptotic stabilizability are derived in the sense of Lyapunov stability criterion. An example is given to show the validity of the proposed methodology.

  • In this paper, we proposed a teleoperation scheme of unmanned grounded vehicle to improve telepresence. Especially, bilateral control architecture for transmitting realistic steering feeling to the remote driver is investigated. System architecture of the teleoperated remote vehicle is introduced with visual, auditory and kinesthetic haptic channel. Several bilateral control architectures are proposed for transmitting remote steering feeling, and subject tests are done to evaluate the performance. Position-force bilateral control architecture with returning torque compensation algorithm shows best performance.

  • In these days, there are a lot of studies in the port automation, for example, unmanned container trasporter, unmanned gantry crain, and automatic terminal operation systems and so on. In terms of loading and unloading equipments. we can consider container transporter. This paper describes the automatic control for the UCT(unmanned container transporter), especially steering control systems. UCT is now operated on ECT port in Netherland and tested on PSA ports in Singapore. So we present a design on the controller using neural network PID(NNPID) controller to control the steering system and we use the neural network self-tuner to tune the PID parameters. The computer simulations show that our proposed controller has better performances than those of the other.

  • An underwater glider is a type of autonomous unmanned vehicle and it advances using a vertical zig-zag glide. For this purpose, the position of an internal battery is regulated to control its attitude, and the amount of water in a buoyancy bag is regulated to control the depth. Underwater glider is suitable for a long-distance mission for a long time, because the required energy is much smaller than the conventional autonomous unmanned vehicle using propeller propulsion system. In this paper, control of horizontal tail wing is newly added to the conventional battery position and buoyancy control. The performance of the proposed controller is shown through Matlab simulation.
