Methods: A convenience sampling method was used to select four elementary schools. Self-reporting questionnaires were distributed to the subjects to collect data, which were then analyzed using the SPSS 18.0 program. Results: The higher the obesity index, the more obesity stress the students experienced. Second, the lower the level of obesity, the higher both self-esteem and the level of adjustment to school life were. There was a meaningful correlation between obesity stress, self-esteem, and adjustment to school life. Conclusion: The study results are expected to be useful in serving as a basic material for the development of programs that can improve students' adjustment to school life and self-esteem while reducing their stress caused by obesity.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of a career preparation program (CPP) on self-leadership (SL) and career locus of control (CLOC) among University Students in South Korea. Self-leadership is the ability to control and lead oneself to achieve goals. CLOC is that attribute own's success of failure to own's effort and ability internally or luck or environment externally. Both have been known to strongly affect variables associated with career planning. We also explored SL and CLOC based on the variable related subjects' characteristics. Method: After receiving informed consent, 58 subjects were collected from University in D metropolitan area in Korea from March to June 2016. CPP was provided to college students who agreed to join this study, which consisted of a 15 week career development program. During the program, recruitment information was provided as well as encouragement and motivation. The program also focused on self-exploring and self-initiating experiences by themselves. Data were collected before and post CPP and were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. Result: self-leadership increased from $3.02{\pm}0.36$ points to $3.23{\pm}0.35$ points after CPP (t=-4.45, p=0.00). There were significant differences in self-leadership and in internal attribution (t=-3.26, p=0.00). The CPP based on the understanding of oneself was effective to cultivate university students' self-leadership. Moreover, the CPP increased internal attribution of the college students significantly from $2.96{\pm}0.35$ points to $3.15{\pm}0.32$ points (t=-3.26, p=0.00). CPP was also found to effectively influence the internal locus of control. Although external attribution was reduced from $2.19{\pm}0.31$ to $2.13{\pm}0.35$, this different was not significant (t=1.68, p=0.09). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the CPP based on understanding of oneself should be actively applied in career education.

At first, according to the quantitative analyses result, the identities of the participated students did not show significant differences between pre and post program participation, statistically. But according to the qualitative analyses on the participants experience reports, which were written by them at each session, the participants had experienced the 'fresh impulse' and the 'enlightenment through the body' at the introduction stage. And, they had experienced the 'whirlwind for the development' and the 'developments through suffering and bearing' at the actualization stage. Eventually, these results proved that psychodrama was useful for the university students to develop their inner side, by bearing and overcoming the physically mentally chaotic experiences from it.

  • The present study tries to identify the characteristics of Problem Based Learning (PBL), which affects the development of middle school students' science self-efficacy. Additionally, we have tried to analyze the relationship within those characteristics to demonstrate the processes of science self-efficacy development. In line with this reasoning, we have developed a 20-module, problem-based learning science program and applied this program to 9th grade students (n=17). Two rounds of qualitative interviews have been conducted with each participant after the program, which has been analyzed with the well-documented method by Corbin and Strauss (2007). As a result, three characteristics of problem based learning have been identified to affect the development of science self-efficacy: a) authentic and ill-structured problem sets, b) small group activity, and c) result sharing. Further analysis has revealed that an authentic and ill-structured problem set as a condition precedent of self-efficacy development, while small group activity has worked as an acceleration condition. Lastly, sharing the result works as a transition condition to future interest on science-related activity or choosing science-related majors.

  • This study explored the development and applicability of a classics book reading program in the nursing curriculum as a character education program in order to enhance nursing students' holistic growth and development. An increasing number of universities in Seoul have introduced a classics book reading program as part of the curriculum and some have even designated it as an essential subject. Various such programs have been developed in addition to the regular education curriculum. The following aspects are important to consider in a classics book reading program for nursing students: trust, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, citizenship, endurance, healthy self-concept, and self-sustained growth performance. Classics book selections need to take into account the level of the students, and the efforts should be made to ensure the accuracy of the translation and the level of students' understanding. It is difficult to form character through short-term education. Despite difficulties, character formation requires continued interest and systemic education that will lead nursing students to show inbuilt positive characteristics. Inclusion of character education in the nursing curriculum should be considered with the agreement of the university, based on political decision-making.

Methods: A survey was conducted from March to May 2019 on students from the Department of dental hygiene in Busan, South Korea, and 177 valid responses were analyzed. The general characteristics of the students were calculated using frequency and percentage, and their degree of 4C core competencies and interpersonal abilities were expressed as means (±standard deviation). Multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the effects of interpersonal competence on the 4C core competencies. Results: The findings revealed the factors affecting the 4C core competencies as; (a) communication ability was affected by interpersonal cognition and confidence building; (b) critical thinking ability was affected by person-oriented, self-expression, and confidence building; (c) creative problem-solving ability was affected by self-confidence, person-orientation, self-expression, and confidence building, and (d) cooperative self-efficacy was affected by person-oriented and confidence building.
