This study aims to investigate current situation and improvement method of correctional facility libraries in Korea. Thus this study made the following suggestions to improve the operation of correctional facility library and to facilitate its growth so that the inmates' basic right to know and access information could be guaranteed: First, there should institutional and legal grounds for the establishment and operation of correctional facility library such as standards, guidelines, and enactments; second, the government should provide enough budgets for human and material resources so that a prison library can equip itself with materials, facilities, and staff to run smoothly; third, the inmates' free access to the library service should be guaranteed in an open space; fourth, the library should introduce an automation system for lending, returning, and handling materials; fifth, a collaboration system with external resources should be set up to make effective use of lacking resources; sixth, programs should be researched and developed to analyze the size and composition of the inmates, the needs of the inmates, and available service; and finally, there should be staff with the qualification of a librarian to be responsible for the operation and management of a correctional facility library and to offer specialized library service to the inmates.

The paper is aiming at a critical review of some important aspects of library cooperation in cataloging. It examines the developments of cooperation in cataloging in brief, attempts a detailed account of centralized and cooperative cataloging by bringing out the strengths and weaknesses of each, and reviews important cooperative projects in cataloging as they have been carried out on regional, national and international levels. Examination is made of such cooperative ventures as technical service centers, a variety of Library of Congress programs designed to ease the burden of cataloging for libraries, and the shared cataloging part of the National Program for Acquisition and Cataloging.

As digitalization accelerates, the use of digital information is increasing in public institutions such as schools and libraries, and the demand for print services is also increasing. Among many services, printing service on public PCs should charge fee to printer users, but it is a very difficult task for administrators. Print management solutions have been developed and are now widely used to automate these demanding tasks. In this paper, we analyze the vulnerability of printer management solutions used in public institutions. However, the security awareness of public PC administrators and printer management solution developers seem to be lacking.

With the rapid change of information environment, this study suggests role models and strategies for the university library in Korea based on the subject specialization. By analyzing the current situation and problems of university library, this research presents various directions for the subject specialization. Major research issues are (1) university library's subject specialization directions, models, and factors, (2) subject specialized librarian' s role and education system, (3) basic framework for customized information service and user education, (4) enhancement of subject specialization through subject gateway, (5) academic information sharing system.

This study hypothesizes that the present deadlock situation in public library development in Korea has chiefly been caused by the underdevelopment of the consciousness of the librarians themselves presently employed in various levels of public libraries throughout the country. This study, therefore, aims to define the areas in librarians' consciousness in which elements of backwardness prevail, and thereby to produce a theoretical framework to develop public library services in Korea on an indigenous footing. To do this, the present author set up a relationship between the traditional consciousness of the Korean People and the public library performances, based on existing published materials. In order to prove hisirelatonship, he then sent out questionnaires to public librarians and male high school students and analyzed the answered questionnaires using Pearson's Correlation Analysis and Multiple Regression Analysis. Results of the analysis are asfollows: 1) Those who place an importance on the show of respectability tend to prefer to work in an indirect services area. 2) Male librarians tend to show a job satisfaction because of chances of promotion reflecting a positive correlation between this-worldiness of librarians and their job satisfaction. 3) Male librarians tend to be satisfied in their job for the conviction for their self-accomplishment, and female librarians tend to be satisfied in their job for the attention and respect they receive from users. 4) Library technicians tend to draw their job satisfaction from their sense of job stability. 5) Male librarians tend to be dissatisfied for the lack of the monetary rewards they receive, while female librarians tend to be dissatisfied for the lack of promotional chances. 6) Most librarians tend to maintain a positive job attitude for the promotional chances, reflecting a positive correlation between this­worldliness in librarians and their service attitude. 7) Power-orientednes in librarians and their job satisfaction correlate negatively in the case of male librarians. This does not apply to female librarians. 8) Power-orientedness and good service attitude correlate negatively in the case of male librarians. This does not apply to female librarians. 9) The fact that male high school students desire to enter good colleges and universities and to obtain a position in his job positively correlate to the fact that public libraries have transformed themselves into a mere reading room. 10) Male library science students show a maladjustment in their major department in earlier years for the professional uncertainty, and as they advance into senior years they show a positive attitude about the library profession.

This exploratory study aims to understand the potential of log data analysis and expand its utilization in user research methods. Transaction log data are records of electronic interactions that have occurred between users and web services, reflecting information-seeking behavior in the context of digital libraries where users interact with the service system during the search for information. Two ways were used to analyze South Korea's National Digital Science Library (NDSL) log data for three days, including 150,000 data: a log pattern analysis, and log context analysis using statistics. First, a pattern-based analysis examined the general paths of usage by logged and unlogged users. The correlation between paths was analyzed through a χ² analysis. The subsequent log context analysis assessed 30 identified users' data using basic statistics and visualized the individual user information-seeking behavior while accessing NDSL. The visualization shows included 30 diverse paths for 30 cases. Log analysis provided insight into general and individual user information-seeking behavior. The results of log analysis can enhance the understanding of user actions. Therefore, it can be utilized as the basic data to improve the design of services and systems in the digital library to meet users' needs.

Books in libraries can be highly refined information. Google invests digitization of books in libraries. But the digitization of books that has a variety of interests, coupled with several problems, including class action, in addition the many critical discussions are underway. Korea pushed the national digitization projects, what are libraries' digitizing their collection of many books. Of course, in publishing and digitization of the target is limited to books published ahead of Google. However, the Library Act was amended for the reposition of online materials, but only in the ways that Google's case is different. Library Act permits collection of online resources through the library to allow, the legislation can be considered as leading act. However, online data is publicly not available through the Internet, so this service hae limited means and range unlike Google. This paper, the digitization of books in the library due to copyright, examines the legal issues looking for the desirable solution. Physical library's main role had been kept the book, but we use the book in terms of policies needed to consider. To overcome these limitations of Copyright Act, this paper researches the relation of Google Book Search in our Copyright Act, and considers introduction as the fair use doctrine and the digital repository system.

The purpose of this study is to determine crucial factors of consideration in ensuring the successful implementation of research data management services. The study begins by extracting a range of service areas from their equivalent in existing research on data management services. It then collects relevant information via e-mail survey from eight individuals respectively overseeing research data management services at six university libraries and one institution located throughout the United States, Germany, and Australia. Having originated in overseas cases, the resulting factors of consideration were reviewed by domestic experts in research data management services. The finalized areas of research data management services consist of nine categories. The crucial factors of consideration in RDM services are connection between research services and research data management services; national/university-level/institutional agreements; metadata entry personnel and required elements; strategies for the provision of specialized staff; major service area selection through user demand analysis; effective linkage between research data and research results; and close cooperation with users and related organizations.

Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) is the mobile TV service based on a digital radio transmission system that provides high quality audio/video and other auxiliary data services. As users want to store the DMB content in their device to be consumed later or to be shared among users, a standardized format needs to be specified to guarantee the interoperability for the DMB contents for various devices. DMB AF (Application Format) specification defines a file format for DMB contents and services. It specifies how to combine the variety of DMB contents with associated information for a presentation in a well-defined format that facilitates storage, interchange, management, editing, and presentation of the DMB contents in protected, governed, and interoperable ways. In this paper we present our implementation of DMB AF as part of the development of DMB AF reference software. Our implementation of DMB AF is developed as the reference software for the standard specification that consists of a three applications: packager, media player, metadata browser and collection of supporting libraries used by the applications.

The purpose of this study is to examine the current status of university library operation through the five laws of library science and suggest ways to improve it. To this end, the operation status of four national and public university libraries was analyzed with the scope of the study as the Busan area. Furthermore, for an in-depth investigation, the P University library in Busan was examined as a case. The operation status of national and public university libraries in the Busan region was analyzed by dividing them into the categories of university library collection materials, facilities, staff, material purchase costs, and users from 2018 to 2022. In particular, there was a decrease in users and a shortage of librarians due to COVID-19. In the case study, the operation status of P University library was investigated focusing on the first and fifth laws of Ranganathan's five laws of library science. In the first law, the study was conducted on the aspects of access to and use of the collection, library location, usage time and book lending, and staff. In the fifth law, the investigation was divided into service improvement aspects according to changes in digital technology of P University library and library environment improvement aspects according to changes in user characteristics. As a result of the study, 'establishment of library space composition strategy', 'establishment of blue ocean strategy', and 'expansion of recruitment and deployment of librarians' were suggested as improvement plans.
