어류에 미치는 인위적인 수중소음 영향과 피해기준에 대한 고찰 (Overview of anthropogenic underwater sound effects and sound exposure criteria on fishes)

  • A scientific and objective sound exposure criterion for underwater sound damage on fish has been required since there has been many disputes between an underwater sound maker and a fish damage receiver. The existing criteria are still incomplete scientifically owing to a degree of variability of underwater sounds, diversity of fish hearing sensitivity and damage types, etc. This study reviews existing studies on a hearing mechanism of fish species, manmade underwater sound characteristics and sound exposure assessment parameters, and recent sound exposure criteria. A governing equation for damage coverage estimation and damage coverage dependency on sound source level, ambient noise and transmission loss are also reviewed and interpreted based on sound exposure environments. The foreign and Korean (National Environmental Dispute Medication Commission) criteria are reviewed and compared based on scientific aspects. In addition, the deficit and limit of Korean criteria are presented. The objective of this study is to give a direction for related researches and legislation of sound exposure criteria on fish.

Development of low-cost, compact, real-time, and wireless radiation monitoring system in underwater environment

  • In this study, an underwater radiation detector was built using a GAGG(Ce) scintillator and silicon photomultiplier to establish an underwater radiation exposure monitoring system. The GAGG(Ce) scintillator is suitable for small radiation detectors as it strongly absorbs gamma rays and has a high light emission rate with no deliquescent properties. Additionally, the silicon photomultiplier is a light sensor with characteristics such as small size and low applied voltage. Further, a program and mobile app were developed to monitor the radiation coefficient values generated from the detector. According to the results of the evaluation of the characteristics of the underwater radiation monitoring system, when tested for its responsiveness to radiation intensity and reactivity, the system exhibited a coefficient of determination of at least 0.99 with respect to the radiation source distance. Additionally, when tested for its underwater environmental temperature dependence, the monitoring system exhibited an increase in the count rate up to a certain temperature because of the increasing dark current and a decrease in the count rate because of decreasing overvoltage. Extended studies based on the results of this study are expected to greatly contribute to immediate and continuing evaluation of the degree of radioactive contamination in underwater environments.

수중기지국 수중 음향 통신을 위한 DUC/DDC 설계 (Design of DUC/DDC for the Underwater Basestation Based on Underwater Acoustic Communication)

  • 최근 해양 자원 개발뿐만 아니라 지구 온난화에 따른 해양 환경 모니터링 및 해양 재난 대비 등을 위하여 수중 무선통신에 대한 연구가 요구되고 있다. 대부분의 수중 무선 통신에서는 수중에서의 매질 특성 및 환경 변화 특성을 고려하여 수십 KHz 대역의 음파를 이용하며, 특히 DSP를 비롯한 프로세서를 기반으로 하여 모뎀 연구가 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 수중 관측 및 제어를 위한 수중 음향 통신 시스템 중 수중기지제어국과 수중기지국 간의 음향 통신을 위한 Digital Up Converter(DUC)와 Digital Down Converter(DDC)를 연구하였다. 수중 음향 통신 시스템은 사용 환경의 제약 때문에 소형 및 저전력 시스템을 추구한다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 DUC 및 DDC 전용 하드웨어 모듈을 설계하였다. 수중 음향 통신 시스템의 4개의 링크를 지원하며, 각각 샘플링 레이트 및 주파수를 변환하였다. Verilog-HDL를 사용하여 설계하였으며, ModelSim 환경에서 수중 음향 통신 시스템의 베이스밴드 신호를 이용하여 동작을 검증하였다.

지반진동과 수중소음의 상관성 연구 (A Study on the Correlation between Underwater Noise and Ground Vibration)

  • 본 연구에서는 암반의 굴착(발파)공사 등으로 인하여 발생되는 지반진동과 어패류 양식장 등의 수중 배경소음도 및 실제 발파작업시에 발생하는 수중 대상소음도의 척도를 비교 분석하고, 회귀분석에 의한 지반진동추정식과 수중 대상소음 간의 상관식을 도출하여 굴착공사시 수중소음도의 발생정도를 사전 예측하고자 하였으며, 나아가 수중소음 관리기준의 정립을 위한 첫걸음으로 본 연구를 시작하게 되었다. 그동안 실험을 진행하기 전에 상황조건을 달리한 어패류 양식장에 대해 배경소음도를 측정하여 본 결과 양식장마다 각각의 환경적 특성에 따라 배경소음 수준정도가 다양하게 나타나고 있고, 수중소음을 유발하는 지반진동을 실측하여 지반진동과 수중 대상소음 간의 상호 관계식을 도출할 수 있었다. 따라서 상관식에 의해 각종 건설공사에서 수중소음 유발정도를 사전에 예측하여 당해 실정에 적합한 관리(허용)기준을 설정, 설계 시공 등에 적용할 수 있으므로 과거의 기술적, 공학적 논리의 빈약한 기술전개로 인한 어패류 피해의 경제적 손실을 사전에 예방할 수 있고, 수중생물체에 대한 안전성을 확보한 가운데 원만한 건설공사를 진행할 수 있다는 가능성을 발견할 수 있었다.

수중 구조물의 보수·보강을 위한 수중 접착제, 에폭시와 섬유복합재의 개발 (Development of Underwater Adhesive, Epoxy, and FRP Composite for Repair and Strengthening of Underwater Structure)

  • 현재 육상 노출 콘크리트 구조물의 보수 및 보강공법에는 많은 신기술이 개발되었고 연구도 많이 진행되고 있으나, 수중에 존치되어 있는 구조물, 즉 교각, 부두 잔교 및 강관파일과 같이 해수 및 수중에 잠겨 있으며, 지속적인 하중을 받는 콘크리트 및 강재의 보수보강 기술에 대한 연구는 많지 않다. 그러므로 이 연구에서는 해수나 수중에 있는 구조물의 보수 보강 공법에 사용할 수 있는 수중 에폭시를 개발하였고, 이 에폭시 재료와 보강섬유을 이용하여 수중용 FRP 복합재를 개발하였다. 개발된 재료의 성능을 검증하기 위하여 다양한 기초물성에 대한 시험을 수행하였다. 성능시험 결과, 개발된 에폭시는 수중에서도 풀림이 거의 없고 부유물질이 발생하지 않는다. 또한 수중이라는 제약 조건 속에서도 30,000 cps 이상의 높은 점성을 갖기 때문에 우수한 작업성을 보이며, 수중에서도 육상에서와 거의 유사한 2 MPa 이상의 부착성능을 발휘하는 것으로 나타났다. 내화학성 시험 결과에서도 중량변화율은 약 0.5~1.0% 이내로 측정되어 우수한 내염 저항성을 확인하였다.

펄스 방전에 의한 충격파 발생 시뮬레이션 (Simulation of Shockwave Developed by Pulse Discharge)

  • Pulse-discharge technology (PDT) is an innovative technology which uses enormous energy developed by electric discharge for a very instant moment of time. Lately, it has been applied to make expanded sections at the ends of piles and anchors. The expanded section is formed by the deformation of bore-hole induced by shockwave energy developed in filling material by the pulse discharge. In this study, considering the phenomenon of pulse-discharge as an underwater explosion, finite element analyses were carried out to model the shockwave development by pulse discharge. The simulation technique was verified by comparing results with underwater discharge test results.

Production Ecology of the Seagrass Zostera marina in Jindong Bay, Korea

  • Production dynamics of eelgrass, Zostera marina was examined in Jindong Bay on the south of the Korea peninsula. Eelgrass leaf productivities and environmental factors such as underwater photon flux density, water temperature, and nutrient availabilities in the water column and sediments were monitored from March 2002 to December 2003. While water temperature exhibited a distinct seasonal trend, underwater irradiance and nutrient availabilities exhibited high degree of fluctuation, and did not show a seasonal trend throughout the experimental periods. Eelgrass leaf elongation and production rates showed significant seasonal variations. Leaf productivity was highest in May (30.0 mg dry wt sht$^{-1}$ d$^{-1}$ or 3.7g dry wt m$^{-2}$d$^{-1}$) and lowest in November (3.2 mg dry wt sht$^{-1}$ d$^{-1}$ or 0.12 g dry wt m $^{-2}$ d$^{-1}$). Eelgrass leaf productivities did not show a strong correlation with underwater irradiance or environmental nutrient availabilities. The production rates, however, were positively correlated with water temperature during spring periods, and were correlated negatively at high water temperature exceeded 20℃ during summer months. While relative growth rates were highest in spring and lowest in high water temperature periods, plastochrone interval was longest during summer and shortest during spring. These results imply that seasonal growth dynamics of eelgrass, Z. marina was mainly controlled by water temperature.

해안지역 안정적 수자원 확보를 위한 기초적 연구 (Basic Study for Securing Stable Water Resources in Coastal Area)

  • Many countries around the world are amplifying interest and studies on irrigation, flood control and environment with concern on serious water problems. Especially for irrigation in water supply vulnerable areas such as coastal areas - islands, business on underwater resource security facilities are promoted to secure stable water resources due to development of society and increase of life quality. Also, various policies such as reuse of leaking underwater, utilization of underwater at waterfront, and artificial recharge, etc are planned and designed. In order to develop small sized underwater resource secure technology, verification of seawater-freshwater interface is executed and how the balance between these will develop is a great interest of coastal areas - islands. In this study, seawater-freshwater interface behavior analysis experiment was conducted while reflecting properties of coastal areas - islands and executed hydraulic similitude of saltwater intrusion form control technology on abstraction.

수중 광량 모니터링을 통한 하절기 낙동강 본류 소광 특성 연구 (A Study on the Light Extinction Characteristics in the Main Channel of Nakdong River by Monitoring Underwater Irradiance in Summer)

  • Algal dynamics is controlled by multiple environmental factors such as flow dynamics, water temperature, trophic level, and irradiance. Underwater irradiance penetrating from the atmosphere is exponentially decreased in water column due to absorption and scattering by water molecule and suspended particles including phytoplankton. As the exponential decrease in underwater irradiance affects algal photosynthesis, regulating their spatial distribution, it is critical to understand the light extinction characteristics to find out the mechanisms of algal dynamics more systematically. Despite the significance, the recent data have been rarely reported in the main stream areas of large rivers, Korea. In this study, the euphotic depths and light extinction coefficients were determined by monitoring the vertical variation of underwater irradiance and water quality in the main channel of Nakdong River near Dodong Seowon once a week during summer of 2016. The average values of euphotic depth and light extinction coefficient were 4.0 m and $1.3m^{-1}$, respectively. The degree of light extinction increased in turbid water due to flooding, causing an approximate 50 % decrease in euphotic depth. Also, the impact was greater than the self-shading effect during the periods of cyanobacterial bloom. The individual light extinction coefficients for background, total suspended solid and algal levels, frequently used in surface water quality modeling, were determined as $0.305m^{-1}$, $0.090m^{-1}/mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$, $0.013m^{-1}/{\mu}g{\cdot}L^{-1}$, respectively. The values estimated in this study were within or close to the ranges reported in literatures.

환경이동혼잡조건을 고려한 자율무인잠수정의 이동경로생성 방법 (Path Planning Method for an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle With Environmental Movement Congestions)

  • In order to make the underwater vehicle carry out the mission in a submarine environment, it is needed to plan a safe and efficient route to a given destination and prevent the autonomous submersible from colliding with obstacles while moving along the planned route. The function of collision avoidance makes the travel distance of the autonomous submersible longer. Moreover, it should move slowly near to obstacles against their moving disturbance. As a result, this invokes the degradation of the navigation efficiency in the process of collision avoidance. The side effect of the collision avoidance is not ignorable in the case of high congested environments such as the coast with many obstacles. In this paper, we suggest a path planning method which provides the route with minimum travel time considering collision avoidance in congested environment. For the purpose, we define environmental congestion map related to geometric information and obstacles. And we propose a method to consider the moving cost in the RRT scheme that provides the existing minimum distance path. We verified that the efficiency of our algorithm with simulation experiments.
