In this paper we proposed system parameter values of ultra-wideband Impulse Radio systems for the frequency band(3.1~10.6GHz), which is allocated by Federal Communications Commission(FCC). We also analyzed performance of the proposed system in the multiple access interference environment. According to result, application of possible pulse duration($t_{n}$) is very limited by 0.04~0.0326 ns in permission frequency range that establish in FCC. In the case of the same pulse signal power, we could know that system performance was changed by pulse repetition number($N_{s}$ ) regardless of pulse duration. Thus, We could know that we have to need duration of monocycle pulse and setting of frame un it time(Τ$_{f}$ ) according to multi user numbers and design proper pulse repetition number by transfer rate in multiple access systems design. In the IR system that needs high speed transmission more than 50 Mbps in multiple access interference environment, we could know that very serious performance decrease by multiple access interference happens. Therefore, as the design of high speed multiple access IR system, it should be designed to additional improvement techniques that can remove multiple access interference at the same time.

In this paper, influences of a ultra wideband (UWB) antenna on impulse channel measurement are investigated in time domain (TD) and frequency domain (FD) as well. Firstly, impulse response of an UWB antenna is obtained and then using the result of impulse response of the UWB antenna, influences of the antenna on impulse radio channel is analyzed. Furthermore, using the impulse response of the UWB anenna, method of impulse radio channel analysis is presented by excluding the effect of the antenna from an impulse radio channel. For verifying the theory, a modified conical monopole antenna is designed for measuring impulse radio channel and its impulse response is obtained. After that, in order to investigate the effects of the UWB antenna on an impulse radio channel, multipath environments are set up in an anechonic chamber and transmission coefficient for each multipath environment is measured with an aid of vector network analyzer. Data measured in frequency domain is transformed into those in time domain by way of signal processing. Measurement shows that such properties of the antenna as dispersion and ringing affect impulse radio channel. Moreover, using the impulse response of the antenna, impulse response of only multipath channel is obtained.

In this paper, we propose a real-time system for counting people. The proposed system uses an impulse radio ultra-wideband(IR-UWB) radar to estimate the number of people in a given location. The proposed system uses learning-based classification methods to count people more accurately. In other words, a feature vector database is constructed by exploiting the pattern of reflected signals, which depends on the number of people. Subsequently, a classifier is trained using this database. When a newly received signal data is acquired, the system automatically counts people using the pre-trained classifier. We validated the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm by presenting the results of real-time estimation of the number of people changing from 0 to 10 in an indoor environment.
To supply a power distribution network with stable power in a high-speed mixed mode system, simultaneous switching noise caused at the multilayer PCB and package structures needs to be sufficiently suppressed. The uni-planar compact electromagnetic bandgap (UC-EBG) structure is well known as a promising solution to suppress the power noise and isolate noise-sensitive analog/RF circuits from a noisy digital circuit. However, a typical UC-EBG structure has several severe problems, such as a limitation in the stop band's lower cutoff frequency and signal quality degradation. To make up for the defects of a conventional EBG structure, a partially located EBG structure with decoupling capacitors is proposed in this paper as a means of both suppressing the power noise propagation and minimizing the effects of the perforated reference plane on the signal quality. The proposed structure is validated and investigated through simulation and measurement in both frequency and time domains.
A recent technology trends in synthetic aperture radar(SAR) requires the ultra high resolution performance in detecting and precisely identifying the targets. In this paper, as a technique for enhancing the radar range resolution, the wide band chirp connection algorithm is presented by stitching the several chirp modules with unit bandwidth based on the linear frequency modulated chirp signal waveform. The principles of the digital chirp signal generation and its architecture for implementation is described with the wide band chirp signal generator, modulator, and demodulator. The performance analysis for the presented algorithm is given with the simulation results.

Many application scenarios of ultra-wideband(UWB) radio assume non-line-of-sigit(non-LoS) signal propagations. Through-material propagation of UWB signal introduces a distortion of the waveform as well as attenuation, which will introduce a decrease of the correlation coefficient between the correlator template and the received signal. A hypothesis test approach to selection of the template waveform for UWB rake receivers is posed. Linde-Buzo-Gray(LBG) algorithm is used to select the candidate waveforms which are used to setup the hypothesis test. The performance of the algorithm is tested using a set of indoor non-LoS propagation measurement data.

This paper presents a tapered slot-antenna(TSA) for optimal impulse-signal transmission in ultra-wide band(UWB). The proposed TSA provides radiates in end-fire direction, which meets an impulse-radio UWB(IR-UWB) system demands(e.g., low loss, thus less error throughout the UWB band). In order to minimize the pulse distortion, we used an wideband impedance transformer and a microstrip slotline. The pulse fidelity characteristics was evaluated with finite-difference time-domain(FDTD) analysis technique and pulse fidelity correlation equation. Approximately 93.89 % pulse fidelity was obtained between the two antennas in 0.5 m range. Additionally, derived chirp Z-transform algorithm enables us to utilize the zoom-in option on the pulse signal in few nano-seconds below. Thus, it is possible to analyze the pulse signal distortion, delay or dispersion characteristics.

In this paper, a new signal canceller that input signals are equally group-delayed and cancelled each other is proposed and feedforward linearizing power amplifier that adopt the proposed signal cancellers is fabricated. Although the conventional signal canceller can't matches the phase and the group delay time of input signals simultaneously, the proposed signal canceller matches those simultaneously. Simultaneous matching of the phase and the group delay time can makes wideband signal cancellation. The main signal cancellation loop of the fabricated feedforward amplifier with the proposed signal cancellers cancel input signal more than 26.3 dB and the intermodulation distortion signal cancellation loop cancel more than 15.2 dB for 200 MHz bandwidth. And the proposed feedforward power amplifier improves C/I ratio by 20.8 dB with two tones at 2,115 MHz, 2,165 MHz, respectively.

In this paper, we propose an interference cancellation(IC) scheme using a partial Rake(PRAKE) combining in ultra-wideband(UWB) multipath fading channels. In this IC scheme, differently from the conventional transmitter model, which employs a guard interval between each frame, the guard interval is employed between each slot for estimating the multiple access interference(MAI). The UWB systems using the proposed IC scheme have little performance degradation without regard to the number of user, while the conventional UWB systems have a significant performance degradation according to the number of user. In order to reduce the receiver complexity, the PRAKE combining of post-canceled signal and the partial user IC scheme are also proposed.

Ultra wideband (UWB) technologies have been developed to exploit a new spectrum resource in substances and to realize ultra-high-speed communication, high precision geolocation, and other applications. The energy of UWB signal is extremely spread from near DC to a few GHz. This means that the interference between conventional narrowband systems and UWB systems is inevitable. However, the interference effects had not previously been studied from UWB wireless systems to conventional mobile wireless systems sharing the frequency bands such as Cellular CDMA and Korean PCS. This paper experimentally evaluates the interference from two kinds of UWB sources, namely a direct-sequence spread-spectrum UWB source and an impulse radio UWB source, to a Cellular CDMA and K-PCS digital transmission system. The average frame error rate degradation of each system arc presented. From these experimental results, we show that in all practical cases UWB system can coexist with Cellular CDMA and K-PCS terminal without causing any dangerous interference.
