Effect of Ultra-sonication Treatment on the Quality Characteristics of Baked Eggs

  • The effect of ultra-sonication on quality characteristics and flavor of baked eggs was studied. One hundred and twenty eggs were cooked and assigned to six treatments groups (n=20 each) that were then soaked in saline solution at various concentrations (5, 10 and 18%) with/or without further ultra-sonication treatment at 35 kHz for 1 h. The pH values were lower in the ultra-sonicated samples in comparison with the non-ultra-sonicated samples (p<0.05). The values for texture traits were higher in the samples soaked in 10% saline solution with ultra-sonication in comparison with other remaining treatments or control (p<0.05). The sodium content in samples soaked in 10% saline solution with ultra-sonication was similar to that of the ones soaked in 18% saline solution without ultra-sonication. The higher flavor scores were also given for the ultra-sonicated samples in comparison with the control or non-ultra-sonicated ones. These results suggest that the application of ultra-sonication may produce a faster sodium penetration into baked eggs, simultaneously improves some textural traits (e.g., hardness) as well as flavor of the products.

Sole and Combined Usage of Ultra-sonication and Hydrogen Peroxide as Mitigation Techniques of Bio-fouling

  • Mussels are stubborn organism attached to solid substrate by byssus threads and caused operational problems in utility of power generating stations. Sole and combined usage of ultrasonic (28 kHz- and 42 kHz- frequencies) and hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$) has studied for control of blue mussel larvae and adult stage in seawater condition. A theoretical wo rking model using disinfection (Chick and Watson type) approaches is presented based on helpful results of experiments. This study also demonstrate that the combined treatment (ultra-sonication with $H_2O_2$) is overall highly efficient than individual treatment would, but on the basis of exposure time, the ultra-sonication was the most efficient among them. Therefore the development of sole and combined technique might be effective practical mitigation strategy against mussel attachment for water handling facilities.

The Simultaneous Analysis of Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, o,m,p-Xylenes and Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons in Soil by GC-FID after Ultra-Sonication

  • A simultaneous determination method of BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, o,m.p-xylene) and TPH (kerosene, diesel, jet fuel and bunker C) in soil with gas chromatography/flame ionization detection (GC-FID) was described. The effects of extracti on method, extraction solvent, solvent volume and extraction time on the extraction performance were studied. A sonication method was simpler and more efficient than Soxhlet or shaking methods. Sonication with 10 mL of acetone/methylene chloride (1 : 1, v/v) for 10 min was found to be optimal extraction conditions for 20 g of soil. Peak shapes and quantification of BTEX and TPH were excellent, with linear calibration curves over a wide range of 1-500 mg/L for BTEX and 10-5000 mg/L for TPH. Good reproducibilities by sonication were obtained, with the RSD values below 10%. By using about 20 g of soil, detection limits were 0.8 mg/L for BTEX and 10 mg/L for TPH. The advantages of this procedure are the use of simple and common equipment, reduced volumes of organic solvents, rapid extraction periods of less than 20 min, and simultaneous analysis of volatile and semivolatile compounds.

폐신문지(廢新聞紙)(ONP)로부터 부유선별(浮遊選別)을 이용한 잉크분리(分離)시 초음파처리(超音波處理) 효과(效果) (Sonication Effects on Froth Flotation for Deinking from Old Newspaper(ONP))

  • 재생률이 높은 폐신문지(old newspaper, ONP)를 부유선별법을 이용하여 탈묵을 진행하였을 시, 해리시간, 초음파처리에 따른 백색도, 잔류잉크농도(effective residual ink concentration, ERIC), 수율의 효과를 규명하였다. 또한 부유선별시 pH, 포수제에 따른 백색도, ERIC과 수율의 효과도 규명하였다. 해리시간이 증가할수록 백색도와 ERIC이 증가함을 보였으나 수율의 차이는 없었다. 해리시간이 30분일 때 백색도 58% ERIC 182.9 ppm이였고, 해리를 더 진행하더라도 백색도의 증가를 볼 수 없었다. 단 해리 된 ONP를 초음파발생장치를 이용하여 초음파처리를 했을 경우 단 2분의 해리시간으로도 58%이상의 백색도를 얻을 수 있었다. 초음파처리를 20분간하고, pH 11에서 포수제로 등유을 사용했을 때 백색도가 59.32%로 가장 높았다.

Design of Ultra-sonication Pre-Treatment System for Microalgae CELL Wall Degradation

  • Cell walls of microalgae consist of a polysaccharide and glycoprotein matrix providing the cells with a formidable defense against its environment. Anaerobic digestion (AD) of microalgae is primarily inhibited by the chemical composition of their cell walls containing biopolymers able to resist bacterial degradation. Adoption of pre-treatments such as thermal, thermal hydrolysis, ultrasound and enzymatic hydrolysis have the potential to remove these inhibitory compounds and enhance biogas yields by degrading the cell wall, and releasing the intracellular algogenic organic matter (AOM). This paper preproposal stage investigated the effect of different pre-treatments on microalgae cell wall, and their impact on the quantity of soluble biomass released in the media and thus on the digestion process yields. This Paper present optimum approach to degradation of the cell wall by ultra-sonication with practical design specification parameter for ultrasound based pretreatment system. As a result of this paper presents, a microalgae system in a wastewater treatment flowsheet for residual nutrient uptake can be justified by processing the waste biomass for energy recovery. As a conclusion on this result, Low energy harvesting technologies and pre-treatment of the algal biomass are required to improve the overall energy balance of this integrated system.

재생 세륨 전구체로부터 나노산화세륨(IV)합성 (Synthesis of nano Cerium(IV) oxide from recycled Ce precusor)

  • 재생 세륨 전구체로부터 수산화세륨($Ce(OH)_3$), 염화세륨($CeCl_3{\cdot}nH_2O$), 탄산세륨($Ce_2(CO_3)_3{\cdot}8H_2O$) 및 산화세륨($CeO_2$)을 합성하고 Ultra-sonication을 통해 나노입자의 산화세륨(IV)을 제조하였다. 폐 유리연마재로부터 정제한 약 99 wt% 재생 세륨 분말을 출발물질로 하여 황산침출과 황산나트륨의 첨가조건을 통해서 황산나트륨세륨 화합물($CeNa(SO_4)_2$)을 합성하였다. 또한 황산나트륨세륨 화합물과 수산화나트륨 수용액 첨가량 비의 조건을 달리하여 수산화세륨을 제조하였으며 염산의 첨가량에 따라 염화세륨을 합성하였다. 연속적인 합성공정으로 침상형의 탄산세륨을 합성한 후 하소와 분산을 통해서 평균 30~40 nm의 산화세륨(IV)을 합성하였다.

수류확산과 초음파와 오존을 이용한 현장 수질 개선 평가 (Field Study of Water Quality Improvement by Circulation, Sonication and Ozonation)

  • 본 연구에서는 수원 여천천에서 원천저수지로의 유입부 정체수역에 수류확산장치, 초음파와 오존 처리를 구성한 시스템이 수질에 미치는 영향을 항목 단위로 조사하였다. 샘플링은 기기 운전 전과 이후 1, 3, 6 시간에 여섯 지점에서 수집되었다. 수류확산장치만을 작동하였을 때, 용존산소는 80%까지 감소하였고, Chl-a는 하류 25m에서 3시간 후 90%까지 감소했다. 초음파를 병행한 경우에는 장치로부터 100 m 거리까지 Chl-a가 80% 이상 제거되었다. 한편 총 용존 인은 초음파 처리 전 $420({\pm}70){\mu}g/L$에서 처리 후 $160({\pm}40){\mu}g/L$까지 감소되었다. 수류확산장치와 초음파에 오존을 처리한 결과, Chl-a는 암모니아성 질소가 $60{\mu}g/L$에서 $20{\mu}g/L$으로 감소하였다. 오존의 경우 안전을 위해 $3{\times}10^{-3}mg/L$ 및 짧은 반응 시간으로 적용하였으나 시스템에 의한 장치 구성이 오존을 비롯한 처리를 통합하는 효과를 낼 수 있었다. 본 연구로부터 수류확산장치와 초음파 가 보여준 Chl-a의 탁월한 처리 성능은 녹조 형성을 방지하는 효과적인 방안으로 제시될 수 있다.
