  • This study sought to understand the mechanical behavior according to the shape of the connecting part of the hybrid beam. This part is composed of central steel. with the end reinforced by concrete in the experiment of cyclic loading. The experimental result was compared and verified with the ultimate strength formula. Likewise, the composite effect and the effectiveness of seismic capacity and stress transmission were examined. The types of each setup were as follows: main bars by welding type, reinforcing by end-plate type, reinforcing by shear connector type, and shear connector type. Results showed that the reinforcing by end-plate type and the shear connector type had excellent strength and seismic capacity as well as better stress transmission. This was due to the unity between reinforced concrete and the steel's connecting part. However, the experimental result was somehow different from the previously established ultimate strength formula. Thus, a definite ultimate strength formula is required.

  • This study is to investigate experimentally the shear capacity of high-strength reinforced concrete beams subjected to monotonic loading. Nine reinforced concrete beams using high strength concrete $(f'c=380kg/\textrm{cm}^2)$ are tested to determine their diagonal cracking and ultimate shear capacity. The main variables are shear span-depth ratio a/d=1.5, 2.5, 3.5, and shear reinforcement ratio. All specimens are 170mm wide and have a total depth of 300mm. The test results indicate that ACI 318-95(b) Code for shear capacity gave closest agrement with the exsprimental results. The beams with a shear spear-depth ratio 1.5 and 2.5. ACI 318-95 Code underestimates shear strength carried by vertical shear reinforcements.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study on the shear strength of high strength concrete beams with steel fibrous. In general, the shear strength of reinforced concrete beams is affected by the compressive strengths of concrete( c), the shear span-depth ratio(a/d), the longitudinal steel ratio($\rho$ $\omega$), and shear reinforcement. An experimental investigation of the shear strength of high strength concrete beams with steel fibrous was conducted. In each series the shear span-depth ratio(a/d) was held constant at 1.5, 2.8, or 3.6, while concrete strengths were varied from 320 to 520, to 800kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$. To verify the proposed equations the experimental results were compared with those from other researches such as equation of ACI code 318-95 or equation of Zsutty. To deduce equation for shear strength from experimental data carried out MINITAP program. According to the experimental results, the addition of steel fibrous has increased the deflection and strain at failure load, improving the brittleness of the high strength concrete.

  • In order to evaluate the design shear strength of composite slabs with truss-shaped shear connectors(TSC), a series of push-out tests on several types of specimens was carried out. The test results for the two parameters of bearing area and solid angle of the connector were compared to obtain the design shear force of the truss-shaped connectors. The results obtained from this study are as follows: (1) The slip-coefficients of TSC ranges from 0.87 to 3.12(${\times}10^6kgf/cm$). (2) The slip stiffness and the shear strength of TSC with $60.6cm^2$ bearing area are greater than those with $14.6cm^2$. (3) For estimating the allowable shear force of TSC, a design equation that is based on the bearing strength of the connector is suggested. (4) The mean safety factors of the critical force and the ultimate force are 2.38 and 4.62. respectively.

  • An experimental study has been carried out to reveal the shear-bond failure mechanism of composite deck slabs. Thirteen full scale simply supported composite slabs are studied experimentally, with the influence parameters like span length, slab depth, shear span length and end anchorage provided by steel headed studs. A dozen of strain gauges and LVDTs are monitored to capture the strain distribution and variation of the composite slabs. Before the onset of shear-bond slip, the longitudinal shear forces along the span are deduced and found to be proportional to the vertical shear force in terms of the shear-bond strength in the m-k method. The test results are appraised using the current design procedures. Based on the partial shear-bond connection at the ultimate state, an improved method is proposed by introducing two reduction factors to assess the moment resistance of a composite deck slab. The new method has been validated and the results predicted by the revised method agree well with the test results.

  • While a great progress has been achieved in predicting the ultimate shear strength in the RC members, it is a fact that a method in order to estimate the ductility of RC members still has to be looked for. This study theoretically predict the ductility of RC beams which fail in shear after flexural yielding by considering the deterioration of concrete strength in plastic hinge region.

  • The porpose of this study is to suggest an experimental for shear wall of reinforced concrete wall structure. A series of experimental be performed for earned to strength and deformation property of reinforced concrete shear wall. These specimens are three R/C walls among five models which had boundary. As a result, it was found that cyclic experiment is very proper and cyclic time must be increased 3 or 5 times. Monotonic test results was indicated over 15% than other experiment for yielding strength and ultimate strength.

  • The aim of this research is to investigate and to compare the shear strengthening effects of steel plates and glass fiber sheets(GFS). Shear damaged beams were repaired by steel plates and GFS. Thickness of steel plates and strengthening type of GFS were taken as the parameters. With loading, the development and propagation of cracks, failure mode and deformation of strengthening materials were checked. The ultimate load was compared with formulas proposed by previous researchers.

  • Recently, the use of duplex stainless steel which with a two-phase microstructure (equal mixture of ferrite and austenite) has been increased in a variety of industrial fields due to higher strength leading to weight saving, greater corrosion resistance(particularly, stress corrosion cracking) and lower price. However, currently, stainless steels are not included in the structural materials of Korean Building Code and corresponding design standards are not specified. In this paper, experimental studies have been performed to investigate the structural behaviors of duplex stainless steel (STS329FLD) bolted connection with two bolts for providing the design data. Main variables are shear connection type (single shear and double shear) and end distance parallel to the direction of applied force. Fracture modes at the final step of test were classified into typical block shear fracture, tensile fracture and curling. Curling occurrence in single shear connection led to ultimate strength drop by up to 20%. Test strengths were compared with those by current design specifications such as AISC/AISI/KBC, EC3 and AIJ and proposed equations by existing studies. For specimens with no curling, Clement & Teh's equation considering the active shear plane provided a higher strength estimation accurancy and for specimens with curling, Kim & Lim's equation considering strength reduction by curling was also overly unconservative to predict the ultimate strength of curled connections.

  • If reinforced concrete beam exists crack, ultimate shear transfer strength and shear hardness of section with crack substantially decrease. In this study , five model beams were designed for the objective of clarfying contributions of three shear resistant elements : the compression zone of concrete, dowel action of tension reinforcement, aggregate interlock across cracks, The shear force carried by each resistant element was calculated from the detailed strain data on the contributions to the shear capacity of beams of the shear forces carried by the other three resistant element. The test result follows : 1) Compression zone of concrete (C)-56.2%, 2) Dowel action of tension reinforcement (D)-18.0%, 3)Aggregate Interlock(A)-25.8%.
