Formation of surface mediated iron colloids during U(VI) and nZVI interaction

  • We investigated that removal of aqueous U(VI) by nano-sized Zero Valent Iron (nZVI) and Fe(II) bearing minerals (controls) in this study. Iron particles showed different U(VI) removal efficiencies (Mackinawite: 99%, green rust: 95%, nZVI: 91%, magnetite: 87%, pyrite: 59%) due to their different PZC (Point of Zero Charge) values and surface areas. In addition, noticeable amount of surface Fe(II) (181 ${\mu}M$) was released from nZVI suspension in 6 h and it increased to 384 ${\mu}M$ in the presence of U(VI) due to ion-exchange of U(VI) with Fe(II) on nZVI surface. Analysis of Laser-Induced Breakdown Detection (LIBD) showed that breakdown probabilities in both filtrates by 20 and 200 nm sizes was almost 24% in nZVI suspension with U(VI), while 1% of the probabilities were observed in nZVI suspension without U(VI). It indicated that Fe(II) colloids in the range under 20 nm were generated during the interaction of U(VI) and nZVI. Our results suggest that Fe(II) colloids generated via ion-exchange process should be carefully concerned during long-term remediation site contaminated by U(VI) because U could be transported to remote area through the adsorption on Fe(II) colloids.

  • 국가 간의 자유무역협정을 통한 세계 경제는 통합화를 추구하고, 이러한 결과로 국가 또는 기업 간의 경쟁이 점점 가속화되고 있다. 시대적 Paradigm은 세계 경제의 통합과 경쟁 방식의 변화이며, 이러한 가운데 소비자들은 건강과 Wellbeing에 대한 관심이 혁신적으로 증대되고 있다. 특히 U-Health의 필요성 증대, 지속적인 U-Health 시장 수요의 증가의 전망되고 있으며 고령화 사회로 접어들면서 건강관리 비용이 GDP의 7% 상회할 것으로 예측되고 있다. 따라서 국가는 국가 경쟁력을 위해, 지역은 지역 경쟁력을 위해 U-Health 산업의 육성을 간과할 수 없다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 충북 지역의 독자적 생존노력 강화 차원에서 차별적인 U-Health 서비스의 우수 브랜드 개발을 통하여 지역 경제활성화 방안을 연구하고자 한다. 먼저 충북 지역은 U-Health 분야의 Power Brand 제정을 통한 충북 지역의 U-Health분야의 독자적 경쟁력을 구축할 수 있다. 그렇게 하기 위해서는 U-Health 제품에 대한 효율적 마케팅전략 전개 필요하다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 SWOT 분석을 통한 경쟁력 확보 전략, STP 분석을 통한 지역 산업화 전략, Marketing Mix 전략을 통한 산업의 활성화 전략을 연구하였다.

  • 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 기술(uT)의 적용에 대한 논의가 상대적으로 저조한 재래시장에 uT를 적용하여 쇼핑객의 쇼핑편의와 온/오프라인 쇼핑경험을 촉진할 수 있는 u-Market을 구현한다면, 재래시장을 방문하는 쇼핑객(유동인구)을 중대시킬 수 있으며,이는 매출증대로 이어져 재래시장 활성화에 일조할 것이다. u-Market 아키텍처는 쇼핑 전 모듈과 쇼핑 중 모듈로 구성된다. 단, 설계 시에는 재래시장의 공간적 제약과 기반시설의 낙후로 인해 적용 가능한 uT의 제약이 따르므로 이를 고려하여 KIOSK, 3G Dongle, 개인 휴대단말기를 기반으로 한 u-Market 시스템의 아키텍처를 설계하였다. u-Market 시스템 아키텍처는 개발 초기 단계에서의 개발자 간의 의사소통 문제를 줄이고, 재 작업에 따른 비용을 절감할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 높은 품질의 시스템을 효과적으로 개발할 수 있는 기반을 제공할 것이다.

  • We expect u-Education based on ubiquitous information and technology will be the next generation education system. We performed a comparative study of well designed school homepage at H elementary school and the other case of homepage at C elementary school in Seoul. We conclude the former shows better performance and educational achievement under U-Learning environment and we propose a next generation U-Learning system architecture.

  • The fast-paced development in the field of U-Healthcare, which is available anytime and anywhere, is being underway in accordance with the development of IT technology. U-Healthcare technology has various security threats because it is based on network. The purpose of this paper is to examine the threats of DOS / DDOS attacks based on network attacks, and to propose the response technique that fit the situation of the U-Healthcare service by modifying the existing Detecting Early DOS / DDOS attacks through Packet Counting.

  • This study aims to provide improvement directions of related laws system to protect U-City infrastructure facilities. For this, the study analyzes oversea infrastructure protection systems and domestic U-City laws system. Then, this indicates problems considering U-City infrastructure protection through Industrial-University-Institute experts' survey. Based on this survey, this study proposes improvement guideline of laws system to protect U-City infrastructure facilities, including enactment the Guideline of U-City Infrastructure Protection, obligation of U-City Infrastructure Protection, revision method of related laws system for protecting intelligent facilities, and Management System of U-City Infrastructure Facilities.

Analysis of Critical Success Factors for E-Commerce through Comparative Study among Korea, U.S.A. and Japan (전자상거래의 성공요인: 한.미.일 비교 분석)

  • The three main purposes of this paper are to (1) identify critical success factors(CSFs) for electronic commerce(EC), (2) investigate the explanatory power of these CSFs on firm performance, and (3) compare differences in evaluating CSFs and explaining impact of CSFs on performance among Korea, Japan, and U.S.A. EC firms. Through a literature review and interviews with managers in EC firms, a list of 16 CSFs consisting of 111 items was compiled. In the second stage, questionnaires were administered to managers of EC companies in Seoul, Korea, Tokyo, Japan, and Texas, U.S.A. Survey results show that CSFs have very significant explanatory power for firm performance in Korea, Japan, and U.S.A. While security, privacy, technical expertise, information about goods/services, and variety of goods/services are the most explanatory CSFs in Korea and Japan, evaluation of EC operations, technical expertise, and ease of use show most explanatory power in U.S.A. In general, respondents in Korean and Japan evaluate CSFs quite differently compared to U.S.A counterparts.

A Study on the Medical Devices in Korea, U.S., and China (한.미.중 의료기기에 관한연구)

  • This study has analyzed the international trade flow of medical devices in Korea, China, and U.S. more theoretically and systematically through a mutual connection of the medical device export structure of Korea and the import structure of China and U.S. organically, with an intensity approach on the bilateral international trade flow. Also, it is meaningful to find a solution to boost exports of Korea to China and U.S.. Therefore in this study, we recognize the importance of the medical device market in China and U.S., which is the main competition for Korea and its market, and look into the trade situation of these three countries. We also look into the relative market stream and the trade intensity of the main medical devices in Korea, China and U.S., and seek measures for the steady growth of the medical device market in these three countries.

School Sex Education in Korea and the U.K. (한국과 영국의 학교 성교육 비교연구)

  • Sex education in the U.K. follows an ideal model, co-operation where ever possible between homes, schools, and communities, whereas in Korea schools are mostly responsible for sex education. Moreover, Central Government and LEAs are deeply involved in school sex education in the U.K., in contrast, the concrete help at Government level is very limited in Korea though the necessity of sex education is acknowledged. These differences be accounted for by the different social and cultural backgrounds of the two countries, especially given the different thoughts of the people-oriental and occidental-. In the U.K., sex education has been a compulsory subject in secondary schools since 1994 (by the Education Act 1993), and it is well managed with the support at Government level as compared with that of Korea. Sex education in the U.K. may give some lessons for practising and developing sex education in Korea because the people in both countries have similarly conservative thinking about school sex education and it is implemented very carefully in the U.K.. In this article, a general comparison of background, policy, aims, content, management, teacher training, and materials of sex education between the two countries is made.
