A unified picture for magnetism, superconductivity, quantum optics and other properties of molecule-based materials has been presented on the basis of effective model Hamiltonians, where necessary parameter values have been determined by the first principle calculations of cluster models and/or band models. These properties of the matetials are qualitatively discussed on the basis of the spin and pseudo-spin Hamiltonian models, where several quantum operators are expressed by spin variables under the two level approximation. As an example, ab initio broken-symmetry DFT calculations are performed for cyclic magnetic ring constructed of 34 hydrogen atoms in order to obtain effective exchange integrals in the spin Hamiltonian model. The natural orbital analysis of the DFT solution was performed to obtain symmetry-adapted molecular orbitals and their occupation numbers. Several chemical indices such as information entropy and unpaired electron density were calculated on the basis of the occupation numbers to elucidate the spin and pair correlations, and bonding characteristic (kinetic correlation) of this mesoscopic magnetic ring. Both classical and quantum effects for spin alignments and singlet spin-pair formations are discussed on the basis of the true spin Hamiltonian model in detail. Quantum effects are also discussed in the case of superconductivity, atom optics and quantum optics based on the pseudo spin Hamiltonian models. The coherent and squeezed states of spins, atoms and quantum field are discussed to obtain a unified picture for correlation, coherence and decoherence in future materials. Implications of theoretical results are examined in relation to recent experiments on molecule-based materials and molecular design of future molecular soft materials in the intersection area between molecular and biomolecular materials.

Effect of polyphenols-rich cacao extract (CE) on lipid hydrolysis by pancreatic lipase was investigated by pH-stat digestion. Two types of substrate (oil vs. emulsion) prepared from soybean oil and CE were studied as types I and II. In the case of type I, addition of CE did not show retardation of lipid hydrolysis, showing that pancreatic lipase was not inhibited. Final digestibility rate (${\Phi}$ max, %) and initial rate (mM/s) of the 24-h aged control (52.31%, 0.03 mM/s) were similar to those of the CE-added sample (58.88%, 0.03 mM/s). However, in the case of typeII, the hydrolysis rates of the control and CE-added emulsion showed distinct differences as aging time increased to 43 days, showing lower digestion in the CE-added emulsion than the control. After 43 days, ${\Phi}$ max values of the control and CE-added emulsion were 92.13% and 77.68%, respectively.
Selective quenching of 1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene (DPH) by trinitrophenyl groups was utilized to examine the transbilayer fluidity asymmetry of model membranes of total lipids (SPMVTL) extracted from synaptosomal plasma membrane vesicles (SPMV). The polarization (P), anisotropy (r), limiting anisotropy $(r_{\infty})$, and order parameter (S) of DPH in the inner monolayer were 0.031, 0.025, 0.033, and 0.070, respectively, greater than calculated for the outer monolayer of SPMVTL. Selective quenching of DPH by trinitrophenyl groups was also utilized to examine the effects of n-alkanols on the individual monolayer structure of SPMVTL. n-Alkanols fluidized the hydrocarbon region of bulk SPMVTL, and the potencies of n-alkanols up to 1-nonanol increased with carbon chain length. It appears that the potencies in bilayer fluidization increase by 1 order of magnitude as the carbon chain length increases by two carbon atoms. The cut-off phenomenon was reached at 1-decanol, where further increase in hydrocarbon length resulted in a decrease in pharmacological activity. The n-alkanols had greater fluidizing effects on the outer monolayer as compared to the inner monolayer of SPMVTL, even though these selective effects tended to become weaker as carbon chain length increased. Thus, it has been proven that n-alkanols exhibit selective rather than nonselective fluidizing effects within transbilayer domains of SPMVTL.
An integrated model is presented to describe underground flow and mass transport, using a multicomponent multiphase approach. The comprehensive governing equation is derived considering mass and force balances of chemical species over four phases(water, oil, air, and soil) in a schematic elementary volume. Compact and systemati notations of relevant variables and equations are introduced to facilitate the inclusion of complex migration and transformation processes, and variable spatial dimensions. The resulting nonlinear system is solved by a multidimensional finite element code. The developed code with dynamic array allocation, is sufficiently flexible to work across a wide spectrum of computers, including an IBM ES 9000/900 vector facility, SP2 cluster machine, Unix workstations and PCs, for one-, two and three-dimensional problems. To reduce the computation time and storage requirements, the system equations are decoupled and solved using a banded global matrix solver, with the vector and parallel processing on the IBM 9000. To avoide the numerical oscillations of the nonlinear problems in the case of convective dominant transport, the techniques of upstream weighting, mass lumping, and elementary-wise parameter evaluation are applied. The instability and convergence criteria of the nonlinear problems are studied for the one-dimensional analogue of FEM and FDM. Modeling capacity is presented in the simulation of three dimensional composite multiphase TCE migration. Comprehesive simulation feature of the code is presented in a companion paper of this issue for the specific groundwater or flow and contamination problems.

As Internet technologies are mature, many new applications that are different characteristics are emerging. Recently we see wide use of P2P(Peer to Peer) applications of which traffic shows different statistical characteristics compared with traditional application such as web(HTTP) and FTP(File Transfer Protocol). In this paper, we measured subscriber network of KT(Korea Telecom) to analyze P2P traffic characteristics. We show flow characteristics of measured traffic. We also estimate Hurst parameter of P2P traffic and compare self-similarity with web traffic. Analysis results indicate that P2P traffic is much bustier than web traffic and makes both upstream traffic and downstream traffic be symmetric. To predict parameters related QoS such as packet loss and delays we model P2P traffic using two self-similar traffic models and predict both loss probability and mm delay then compare their accuracies. With simulation we show that the self-similar traffic models we derive predict the performance of P2P traffic accurately and thus when we design a network or evaluate its performance, we can use the P2P traffic model as reference input traffic.
This study investigated on the photolytic degradation of Triclosan by E-beam process. The optimization of process was investigated during a series of batch experiments by design of experiments(DOEs). The DOE was one of the statistical application that was used for designed the response surface to determine the effects of each parameters. The responses were applied as removal rate of Triclosan(%, $Y_1$) and TOC removal rate(%, $Y_2$). Two independent variables were concentration of Triclosan and irradiation intensity that were designed as "$x_1$" and irradiation intensity was designed as "$x_2$". The regression equation in coded parameter between the Triclosan removal efficiencies(%) and TOC removal efficiencies(%) was $Y_1=63-12.4335x_1+15.1835x_2+5.8125x{_1}^2-5.6875x{_2}^2-0.75x_1x_2(R^2=95.1%,\;R^2(Adj)=91.7%)$ and $Y_2=46-8.8462x_1+11.7175x_2-0.75x{_1}^2-6.25x{_2}^2(R^2=98.7%,\;R^2(Adj)=97.7%)$, respectively. The model predictions agreed well with the experimentally observed results $R^2$ and $R^2(Adj)$ over 90% within both of $Y_1$ and $Y_2$. This result shows that the regression model express well about the effects of parameters on E-beam process and the statistical method was successfully applied.
A stochastic numerical analysis for predicting the groundswater fluctuations in hillside slopes is performed in this paper to account for the uncertainties associated with the rainfall and site characteristics. The effect of spatial variabilities of aquifer parameters and the effect of temporal variability of recharge on the groundwater fluctuations are studied in depth. The Kriging is used to account for the spatial tariabilities of aquifer parameters. This technique prolevides the best linear unbiased estimator of a parameter and its minimum variance from a litsitem number of measured data. A stochastic one-dimensional numerical model is delreloped b) combining the groundwater flow model, the Kriging, and the first-order second-moment analysis. In addition, a two dimensional detelministic groundwater model is developed to study the change of ground water surfas in the transverse direction as well as in the downslope direction. It is revealed that the undulations of the impervious bedrock in addition to the permeability and the specific yield have an important influence on the fluctuations of the groundwater surface. It is also found that th'e groundwater changes significantly in the transverse direction as well as in the downslope direction. The results obtained in this analysis may be used for evaluation of landslide risks due to high porewater pressure.

This study presents the prediction methodology of debris flow occurrence areas using the SINMAP model. Former studies used a single calibration region applying some of the soil test results to predict debris flow occurrence in SINMAP model, which couldn't subdivide the soil properties for the target areas. On the other hands, a multi-calibration region using a detailed soil map and soil strength parameters (c, ${\phi}$) for each soil series to make up for limitation of former studies is proposed. In this process, soils with soil erodibility factor (K) are classified into three types: 1) gravel and gravelly soil. 2) sand and sandy soil, and 3) silt and clay. In addition, T/R estimation method using mean elevation of target area instead of T/R method using actual occurrence time is suggested in this study. The suggested method is applied to Seobyeok-1 ri area, Bonghwa-gun where debris flow occurred. As a result of comparison between two T/R estimation method, both T/R estimations are almost equal. Therefore, the suggested methodologies in this study will contribute to set up the national-wide mitigation plan against debris flow occurrence.
The analysis of long-term performance of pavement sections under wheel loads is normally conducted in two separated steps. First the resilient behavior of the pavement is calculated assuming the pavement is a layered or discrete elastic medium, and then the permanent deformation is evaluated based on empirical permanent displacement equations. Material properties required in both steps can be obtained from cyclic triaxial tests, in other words, resilient and permanent deformation tests. While this analytical approach is simple and convenient, it does not consider the modulus degradation caused by cyclic loads, and some types of reinforcements such as geosynthetic cannot be modeled in this type of analysis. A model for degraded secant modulus is proposed and suggested to be used for the analysis of permanent behavior of unpaved roadway sections. The parameter for suggested model can be obtained from cyclic triaxial tests, regular practice in pavement engineering. Examples to estimate the model parameters are presented based on both laboratory permanent deformation test and large-scale plate load test.
In ranking data, respondents are required to rank a number of alternatives in order of their preferences and an exploded logit model is generally used. It assumes that each rank contains the same amount of random noise. This study investigates the reliability of ranking data and identifies whether there are different decision rules at each rank stage. The results show that there were differences in the amount of unexplained variation in different ranking stage. A single scaling parameter could not explain the difference of variations of individual coefficients between two ranking data average difference of variations. This paper also investigated the optimal explosion depth in the exploded logit model by using the suggested scaling approach. The scaling approach should be based on particular variables which have different variances rather than based on the whole data set. The empirical analysis show that an explosion depth of 2 is appropriate after scaling the second rank data set, while an explosion including the third rank is inappropriate even though the third rank data set is scaled.
