  • This paper compares the performances of permanent-magnet synchronous (PMS) and permanent-magnet vernier (PMV) machines for low-speed and high-torque applications. For comparison with the PMS machines, we consider two types of the PMV machine. The first one has surface-mounted permanent magnets (PMs) on the rotor and the other has PMs inserted on both sides of the stator and rotor. The PMS and PMV machines are designed to meet the condition of equal output power per unit volume. We analyze the magnetic fields of the machines using a two-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA). We then compare their performances in terms of the generated torque characteristics, power factor, loss, and efficiency.

  • This article documents the design of a novel two-loop acceleration autopilot based on $\mathcal{L}_1$ adaptive output feedback control for tail-controlled missiles. The inner loop is an adaptive angle-of-attack tracking loop and the outer loop is the traditional PI controller for error compensation. A systematic low-pass filter design procedure is provided for minimum phase system and is applied to the inner loop design while the parameters of the outer loop are obtained from the multi-objective optimization problem. The effectiveness of the proposed autopilot is verified through numerical simulations under various conditions.

  • Throughout this paper we analyze the system at output point t of two stage cyclic queueing model. Our main result characterize the stochastic process (X$^{o}$ , T$^{o}$ ), the system at output point, as a Markov renewal process. The subsequent lemma exhibits the semi-Markov kernel of (X$^{o}$ , T$^{o}$ ) with state dependent feedback, the possibility of a reducible state space arises. A simple necessary and sufficient condition for the irreducibility of (X$^{o}$ , T$^{o}$ was determinded. This irreducibility implied that (X$^{o}$ , T$^{o}$ ) was aperiodic.

  • Demand of the data storage becomes more and more growing. This requests the next generation of storage devices to have the dominated storage capability associated with superfast read/write rate. Holographic data storage (HDS) is investigated for a long time and is considered to be a candidate for the future storage system. However, it has two-dimensional intersymbol interference that conventional one-dimensional detection solutions have not yet handled strictly because of the complexity level of system as well as the cost. We propose a new scheme that combines iterative soft output Viterbi algorithm with noise filter for improving the bit error rate performance of HDS.

  • Input-series-output-parallel (ISOP) converters consisting of multiple modular DC/DC converters can enable low voltage rating switches to be used under high voltage input applications. This paper presents a digital control strategy, which can achieve equal sharing of input voltage for a modular ISOP system consisting of two-transistor forward DC/DC converters by forcing the input voltages of neighboring modules to be equal. The proposed scheme is analyzed using small signals analysis based on the state space average method. The performance of the proposed control strategy is verified with an experimental prototype of an ISOP converter made up of three two-switch forward converters.

  • In this paper, eco-friendly paper strain gauge was fabricated in the way of printing strain gauge on paper substrate, using PEDOT:PSS ink and inkjet printer technology. As a p-type conductive high polymer, PEDOT:PSS is known to be piezoresistive effect. I formed a strain gauge by connecting in parallel 5 lines of $60{\mu}m$ width printed with PEDOT:PSS. To minimize surrounding influence such as temperature, I formed wheat-stone bridge by combining 4 strain gauges (quarter-bridge strain gauge) which were made up of PEDOT:PSS 5 lines and measured. In quarter-bridge strain gauge, only two strain gauges, facing each other, arranged in strain and horizontal direction were deformed while the other two strain gauge of vertical direction were not. Therefore, quarter-bridge strain gauge showed the output of half bridge. The fabricated quarter-bridge strain gauge had output sensitivity of $105.6{\mu}V/V{\cdot}mm$ and its output linearity was relatively good.

  • This paper reported the experimental results of the 2 stage converter using a Buck converter and a soft switching dc-to-dc converter that employs two separate transformers. A 2 stage converter module is designed with the specifications of an 3.3V output voltage, 20A output current, 66W output power and 36-75V input voltage. A prototype converter module is successfully implemented within 85.2% efficiency and 3% voltage regulation for the entire input voltage range, thereby demonstrating its application potentials to future telecommunication electronics.

  • We report an investigation of the statistical fluctuations of the two-mode laser output as the asymmetry parameter is varied. The above results relate to computer solutions of the coupled Langevin equations both with and without pumping fluctuations. We find that as the asymmetry parameter is changed positively, the mean intensity of one mode is increased because the normalized intensity auto-correlation is decreased so that the natural dwell time is lengthen. The laser output does respond to a sinusoidally injected asymmetry parameter for small pump parameter.

  • Cell fusion device is an artificial equipment which fuses electrically two types of cells fed from the respective micropump to the fusion chamber by electric pulses. In this case, the detective sensor of flowing cell, along with passage, is required to control the time of pulses applied to cell and the injection of cells which are fed from inlet to micropump. There are two methods of detection of flowing cell; optical, impedance method. The difference of output for optical sensor is about 426mV for 805nm wavelength. about 37mV for 665nm wavelength. In impedance method, sensor output is 132.33mV at middle point and 117.10mV at edge point in the channel. Experimental results show that the optimal frequency range of sensor output is Iron 50Hz to 400Hz.

  • This paper aims to study and design of Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) Machine using Isopentane as working fluid expanding through Tesla turbine. The study on ORC machine expanding through Tesla turbine has result on the efficiency of Tesla turbine. In addition, Thermodynamics theory on isentropic efficiency proved to be a successful method for overcoming the difficulties associated with the determination of very low torque at very high angular speed. By using an inexpensive experiment device and a simple method, the angular acceleration method, for measuring output torque and power in a Tesla turbine is able to predict a tendency of output work. The experiments using two Tesla turbine sizes, the first size is 1.6 bigger than the second one. In comparison with the first size, the tesla turbine can produce power output more than 62% of the second size. Further study on the machine can be developed throughout the county due to its low cost and efficiency.
