The discovery of a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) in $LaAlO_3$ (LAO)/$SrTiO_3$ (STO) heterostructure has stimulated intense research activity. We suggest a new structure model based on $KNbO_3$ (KNO) material. The KNO thin films were grown on $TiO_2$-terminated STO substrates as a p-type structure ($NbO_2/KO/TiO_2$) to form a two-dimensional hole gas (2DHG). The STO thin films were grown on KNO/$TiO_2$-terminated STO substrates as an n-type structure to form a 2DEG. Oxygen pressure during the deposition of the KNO and STO thin films was changed so as to determine the effect of oxygen vacancies on 2DEGs. Our results showed conducting behavior in the n-type structure and insulating properties in the p-type structure. When both the KNO and STO thin films were deposited on a $TiO_2$-terminated STO substrate at a low oxygen pressure, the conductivity was found to be higher than that at higher oxygen pressures. Furthermore, the heterostructure formed at various oxygen pressures resulted in structures with different current values. An STO/KNO heterostructure was also grown on the STO substrate, without using the buffered oxide etchant (BOE) treatment, so as to confirm the effects of the polar catastrophe mechanism. An STO/KNO heterostructure grown on an STO substrate without BOE treatment did not exhibit conductivity. Therefore, we expect that the mechanics of 2DEGs in the STO/KNO heterostructures are governed by the oxygen vacancy mechanism and the polar catastrophe mechanism.
A high resolution numerical method aimed at solving gas-liquid two-phase flow is proposed and applied to gas-liquid two-phase shock tube problem. The present method employs a finite-difference 4th-order Runge-Kutta method and Roe's flux difference splitting approximation with the MUSCL TVD scheme. By applying the homogeneous equilibrium cavitation model, the present density-based numerical method permits simple treatment of the whole gas-liquid two-phase flow field, including wave propagation and large density changes. The speed of sound for gas-liquid two-phase media is derived on the basis of thermodynamic relations and compared with that by eigenvalues. By this method, a Riemann problem for Euler equations of one dimensional shock tube was computed. Numerical results such as detailed observations of shock and expansion wave propagations through the gas-liquid two-phase media and some data related to computational efficiency are made. Comparisons of predicted results and exact solutions are provided and discussed.
Recently, micro-alloyed steels which could eliminate heat treatments after forging has been developed. These non heat-treated micro-alloyed steels have several advantages over the conventional quenched and tempered steel for cold forging. First of all, long components can be fabricated with a better dimensional accuracy since bending of long forged part after quenching treatment could be avoided. And it is possible to eliminate two energy consuming heat treatment steps, which are a spherodizing before forging and quenching/tempering after forging. Therefore, more cost effective and environment friendly process could be designed. However, there is non-uniform distribution of strain occurred across the forged part, since these non heat-treated micro-alloyed steel use strain hardening mechanism. In the present study, it was investigated how to lessen non-uniformity and increase strength together for cold forging when a baking heat treatment is applied in micro-alloyed steels. For this purpose, micro-alloyed steels developed by Se-A Besteel recently was used for the experiment.

Objective: To compare the efficacy and complications of chemotherapy and late course three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) in treating patients with stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Patients and Methods: All patients were divided into two groups: to receive chemotherapy and late course 3DCRT (3DCRT group), or chemotherapy and conventional fraction radiation (control group). In the 3DCRT-group, patients were given 6~15 MV X-rays with a total dose of 40 Gy, followed by 3DCRT, 2.5 Gy~3.0 Gy per fraction, 1 fraction/every day, total 68 Gy~70 Gy; in the control group, with conventional fraction radiation the total dose was 64~66 Gy. The chemotherapy regimen in both cases was EP (VP-16 and DDP). Results: Sixty four patients with stage III NSCLC were divided into two groups: 32 patients into 3DCRT, 32 into the control group. One and 2-year survival rates in 3DCRT and control group were 87.5%, 56.3%mad 65.6%, 34.4%, respectively (P<0.05); local control rates were 90.6%, 81.3% and 65.6%, 53.1%, respectively (P<0.05). Conclusion: Chemotherapy and late course 3DCRT is associated with improved survival rate in patients with stage III NSCLC with good tolerability.
Purpose: Heat transfers phenomena are described by the second order partial differential equation and its boundary conditions. In a three-dimensional structure of a building, the heat transfer phenomena generally include more than one material, and thus, become complicate. The analytic solutions are useful to understand heat transfer phenomena, but they can hardly be applied in engineering or design problems. Engineers and designers have generally been forced to use numerical methods providing reliable results. Finite volume methods with the unstructured grid system is only the suitable means of the analysis for the complex and arbitrary domains. Method: To obtain an numerical solution, a discretization method, which approximates the differential equations, and the interpolation methods for temperature and heat flux between two or more materials are required. The discretization methods are applied to small domains in space and time, and these numerical solutions form the descretized equations provide approximated solutions in both space and time. The accuracy of numerical solutions is dependent on the quality of discretizations and size of cells used. The higher accuracy, the higher numerical resources are required. The balance between the accuracy and difficulty of the numerical methods is critical for the success of the numerical analysis. A simple and easy interpolation methods among multiple materials are developed. The linear equations are solved with the BiCGSTAB being a effective matrix solver. Result: This study provides an overview of discretization methods, boundary interface, and matrix solver for the 3-dimensional numerical heat transfer including two materials.
Objective: The additional arch length required for leveling (AALL) the curve of Spee (COS) can be estimated by subtracting the two-dimensional (2D) arch circumference, which is the projection of the three-dimensional (3D) arch circumference onto the occlusal plane, from the 3D arch circumference, which represents the arch length after leveling the COS. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the cusp tips or proximal maximum convexities are more appropriate reference points for estimating the AALL. Methods: Sixteen model setups of the mandibular arch with COS depths ranging from 0 mm to 4.7 mm were constructed using digital simulation. Arch circumferences in 2D and 3D were measured from the cusp tips and proximal maximum convexities and used to calculate the AALL. The values obtained using the two reference points were compared with the paired t -test. Results: Although the 3D arch circumference should be constant regardless of the COS depth, it decreased by 3.8 mm in cusp tip measurements and by 0.4 mm in proximal maximum convexity measurements as the COS deepened to 4.7 mm. AALL values calculated using the cusp tips as reference points were significantly smaller than those calculated using the proximal maximum convexities (p = 0.002). Conclusions: The AALL is underestimated when the cusp tips are used as measurement reference points; the AALL can be measured more accurately using the proximal maximum convexities.

A purely analytical model for HEMT's based on a two dimensional charge control simul-ation[4] is proposed. In this model proper treatment of diffusion effect of electron transport along a 2-DEG (two dimensional electron gas) channel is perfoemed. This diffusion effect is shown to effectively increase the bulk mibility and threshold voltage of the I-V curves compared to the existing models. The channel thickness and gate capacitance are expressed as functions of gate voltages covering subthreshold characteristics of HEMT's analytically. By introducing the finite channel opening and an effiective channel-length modulation, the solpe of the saturation region of the I-V curves ws modeled. The smooth transition of the I-V curves at linear-to-saturation regions of the I-V curves was possible using the continuous Troffimenkoff-type of field dependent mobility. Furthermore, a correction factor f was introduced to account for the finite transition section forming between a GCA and a saturated section. This factor removes large discrepancies in the saturation region of the I-V curve predicted by existing l-dimensional models.
Flounder is one of the major aquacultured fish and of an economically important item in Korean fisheries. Recently, there are trends of research worldwide that aim to analyze and characterize a whole genome or a whole proteome of interesting species. The data are utilized for the understanding and development of preventive and curative technologies for the serious diseases. However, there are very limited information of proteome for marine organisms, we optimized first the conditions for two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2D-PAGE) with serum form a marine fish, flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus). A pre-treatment of serum and an optimization of protein concentration analyzed were surveyed for enhancing the separation for proteins. A statistical analysis was performed on the overall 1,820 protein spots to overcome the variability among individual fishes.
Objective: This study investigated whether it is possible to use a two-dimensional (2D) standard in three-dimensional (3D) analysis, by comparing the angles and lengths measured from a midsagittal projection in 3D cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) with those measured by 2D lateral cephalometric radiography (LCR). Methods: Fifty patients who underwent both LCR and CBCT were selected as subjects. CBCT was reoriented in 3 different methods and the measuring-points were projected onto the midsagittal plane. Twelve angle values and 8 length values were measured on both LCR and CBCT and compared. Results: Repeated measures analysis of the variance revealed statistically significant differences in 7 angular and 5 linear measurements among LCR and 3 types of CBCT (p < 0.05). Of these 12 measurements, multiple comparisons showed that 6 measurements (ANB, AB to FH, IMPA, FMA, Co-Gn, Go-Me) were not significantly different in pairwise comparisons. LCR was significantly different from 3 types of CBCT in 3 angular (SN to FH, interincisal angle, FMIA) and 2 linear (S-Go, Co-ANS) measurements. The CBCT method was similar for all measurements, except for 1 linear measurement, i.e., S-N. However, the disparity between the mean values for all parameters was within the range of clinical measurement error. Conclusions: 3D-CBCT analysis, using midsagittal projection, is a useful method in which the 2D-LCR normative values can be used. Although the measurements changed with reorientation, these changes were not clinically significant.
Objective: Condylar resorption (CR) is one of the major post-surgical complications of orthognathic surgery. This systematic review (SR) aimed to evaluate epidemiological data, risk factors, and therapeutical management of CR. Methods: Six databases were screened by two investigators until September 2020 to obtain all SRs. After reading the titles and abstracts, eligible SRs were determined and data extraction was performed. Using the latest version of A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews, the methodological quality of the included SRs was determined. Results: Ten SRs with low or critically-low methodological quality were included in this review. Mandibular hypoplasia on the sagittal plane and hyperdivergent growth pattern on the vertical plane were the most common skeletal alterations in which CR could occur after orthognathic surgery. Post-operative condylar changes were analyzed both on two-dimensional and three-dimensional (3D) radiographic examinations. The incidence of CR was not related to the fixation method. Based on the severity of the pathological conditions, management of CR can include conservative or surgical therapy. Conclusions: Despite the limited evidence in literature, CR is considered a consequence of orthognathic surgery. However, an accurate diagnosis of CR and a better orthognathic surgical planning must include 3D radiographic examinations to improve pre- and post-surgical comparison. Well-designed studies with long-term follow-up and 3D data are needed to clarify the findings of this analysis..
