This paper deals with a fault detection and isolation scheme for a DC motor driven centrifugal pump system. The emphasis is placed on the design and implementation of the residual generatorm, based on parity relation, that provides decision logic unit with residuals that will be further processed to detect and isolate three important faults in the system;brush fault, impeller fault, and the speed sensor fault. Two process faults are modelled as multiplicative type faults, while the sensor fault as an additive one. With multiplicative fault, the implementation of the residual generator needs the time varying transformation matrix that must be computed on-line. Typical implementation methods lack in generality because only a numerical approximation around the assumed fault levels is employed. In this paper, a new implementation method using well tranined neural network is proposed to improve the generality of the residual generator. Application results show that the fault detection and isolation scheme with the proposed residual generator effectively isolates three major faults in the centrifugal pump system even with a wide range of fault magnitude.
Kinematic analyses of magmatic intrusions and faults can provide useful information on stress conditions and chronological relationships between dike emplacement and brittle deformation events. We studied structures in rocks exposed on a coastal platform in Geoje Island off the southern Korean Peninsula because of its well-developed dikes and faults. The geology of the study area includes the Cretaceous Seongpo-ri Formation, which is composed mostly of shale, sandstone, and hornfels intruded by magmatic dikes. Most of the dikes are developed along pre-existing structural features (faults and fractures), indicating that their emplacements were structurally controlled. Because dikes commonly open along the direction of the minimum principal stress, the direction of this stress can be obtained from dike geometry and orientation through the matching of piercing points on either side of a dike. In addition, the deformed dikes can give information regarding later deformation. On the basis of the kinematic analyses, we identified five deformation events in the study area, which are kinematically related to changes of the regional maximum principal stress. Results indicate that the structures in the study area have been controlled predominantly by episodes of reactivation of the NNE-trending Yangsan strike-slip fault, located to the northeast of the study area, under different stress regimes. In a wider tectonic context, the brittle deformation of the rocks of Geoje Island was probably induced by interactions among the Philippine Sea, Pacific, and Eurasian plates, including changes in subduction parameters with respect to the latter two plates over time.

In this paper, we propose an approach to signal model-based fault detection and diagnosis system for induction motors. The current fault detection techniques used in the industry are limit checking techniques, which are simple but cannot predict the types of faults and the initiation of the faults. The system consists of two consecutive processes: fault detection process and fault diagnosis process. In the fault detection process, the system extracts the significant features from sound signals using combination of variance, cross-correlation and wavelet. Consequently, the pattern classification technique is applied to the fault diagnosis process to recognize the system faults based on faulty symptoms. The sounds generated from different kinds of typical motor's faults such as motor unbalance, bearing misalignment and bearing loose are examined. We propose two approaches for fault detection and diagnosis system that are waveletand-variance-based and wavelet-and-crosscorrelation-based approaches. The results of our experiment show more than 95 and 78 percent accuracy for fault classification, respectively.
Some deep faults do not reach the ground surface and are seldom recognized. Gokgang Fault area in the east of the Heunghae area of the Pohang basin has been selected to confirm the feasibility of the Horizontal-to-Vertical Spectral Ratio (HVSR) approach to identify blind faults. Densely spaced microtremor data have been acquired along two lines in the study area and processed to obtain resonance frequencies. An empirical relationship between the resonance frequency and the bedrock depth was proposed using borehole data available in the study area. Resonance frequencies along two lines were then converted to bedrock depths. The resulting depth profiles show significant lateral variations in the bedrock depth. As expected, considerable variation in the resonance frequency is observed near the Gokgang fault. The depth profiles also present additional significant variations in the resonance frequencies and the bedrock depths. The feature is presumably related to a blind fault that is previously unknown. Therefore, this case study confirms the feasibility of the HVSR technique to identify faults otherwise not recognized on the surface.

In this paper, a new testable design technique for domino CMOS circuits is proposed to detect stuck-at(s-at), stuck-open(s-op) and stuck-on(s-on) faults in the circuits by observing logic test reponses. The proposed technique adds one pMOS transistor per domino CMOS gate for s-op and s-on faults testing of nMOS transistors and one nMOS transistors and one nMOS transistor per domino gate or multilevel circuit to detect s-on faults in pMOS transistors of inverters in the circuit. The extra transistors enable the proposed testable circuit to operate like a pseudo static nMOS circuit while testing nMOS transistors in domino CMOS circuits. Therefore, the two=phase operation of a precharge phase and a evaluation phase is not needed to keep the domino CMOS circuit from malfunctionong due to circuit delays in the test mode, which reduces the testing time and the complexity of test generation. Most faults of th transistors in the proposed testable domino CMOS circuit can be detected by single test patterns. The use of single test patterns makes the testing of the proposed testable domino CMOS circuit free from path delays, timing skews, chage sharing and glitches. In the proposed design, the testing of the faults which, require test sequences also becomes free from test invalidation. The conventional automatic test pattern generators(ATPG) can be used for generating test patterns to detect faults in the circuits.
Cheongryangsan area ($49.51km^2$) has been designated as the Provincial Park in 1982, because it has magnificent aspect and seasonally spectacular landscapes. Especially, Cheongryangsa sitey ($4.09km^2$) has been designated as Noted Scenery No. 23 in 2007, because it has the same topographical landscape as rock cliffs, rock peaks and caves. The most spectacular landscapes are exhibited in the Cheongryangsan Conglomerate and Osipbong Basalt. There are twelve rock peaks on the ridges of the two strata, and many rock cliffs in the several valleys of strata, in which a few caves are formed by differential weathering and erosion. The valleys, in which flow Cheongryang, Bukgok and Cheonae streams, are classified as fault valleys along WNW-ESE faults. The rock cliffs were generated from vertical joints parallel to WNW-ESE faults in the two strata, and the caves were formed by differential weathering and erosion along bedding of sandstones and shales intercalated in the conglomerates. The rock peaks are landscapes formed by differential erosion along crossed vertical joints in the ridges. The vertical joints are developed subparallel to two WNW-ESE faults and a NNE-WWS fault. Therefore the topographical features are caused by existence of the faults and Lithologic difference in the Cheongryangsan Conglomerate and Osipbong Basalt, and by differential weathering and erosion along them.

An integrated fault detection and isolation method is proposed in this paper. The main objective of this paper is development fault detection, isolation and diagnosis algorithm based on the DKF (Decentralized Kalman Filter) and the bank of IMM (Interacting Multiple Model) filters using penalty scalar for both partial and total faults and the outlier detection algorithm for preventing false alarm also included. The proposed FDI (Fault Detection and Isolation) scheme is developed in four phases. In the first phase, the outlier detection filter is designed to prevent false alarm as a pre-filter. In the second phases, two local filters and master filter are designed to detect sensor faults. In the third phases, the proposed FDI scheme checks sensor residual to isolate sensor faults and 11 EKFs actuator fault models are designed to detect wherever actuator faults occur. In the last phases, four filters are designed to identify the fault type which is either the total fault or partial fault. The developed scheme can deal with not only sensor and actuator faults, but also preventing false alarm. An important feature of the proposed FDI scheme can decreases fault isolation time and figure out not only fault detection and isolation but also fault type identification. To verify the proposed FDI algorithm performance, the Simulator is also developed under the Matlab/Simulink environment.
In three-phase power, when the power is supplied to the single phase load, there is the unbalance of load in the three-phase power. So the scott transformer is used in the power system to supply a single phase load in three-phase power without the unbalance of loads. Especially, the scott transformer is used in the AC substation of electric railroad. Two single phase transformers are combined by T-wiring in the scott transformer. So, two single phase voltage is provided by differing $90^{\circ}$ phase in three-phase power. The selection of related equipment and correction of protective relay are not easy from characteristic of the scott transformer when shunt and ground faults occur. In this paper, electric model of the scott transformer is suggested and the current of the scott transformer in shunt and ground faults is analyzed. Also, the scott transformer model is demonstrated by using Sinulink.
Many studies in the software reliability have attempted to develop a model for predicting the faults of a software module because the application of good prediction models provides the optimal resource allocation during the development period. In this paper, we consider the change request data collected from the field test of the software module that incorporate a functional relation between the faults and some software metrics. To this end, we discuss the general aspect if regression method, the problem of multicollinearity and the measures of model evaluation. We consider four possible regression models including two stepwise regression models and two nonlinear models. Four developed models are evaluated with respect to the predictive quality.

This paper presents a method of recognizing high impedance fault(HIF) of electrical power systems and classifying fault patterns based on chaos attractors. Two dimensional chaos attractors are reconstructed from neutral point current waveforms. Reliable features for HIF pattern classification are obtained from the chaos attractors. Radial basis function network, trained with two types of HIF data generated by the electromagnetic transient program and measured form actual faults. The RBFN successfully classifies normal and the three types of fault patterns according to the features generated from the chaos attractors.
