  • The focus of this paper is to observe the aerodynamic and vibration characteristics of the NACA0012 blade(AR=16.6) fixed on the lower surface of the wind tunnel, by changing air speed and the blade's angle of attack. After fixing a slit-typed vortex generator on the front of the blade, it could be observed that the vibrational characteristics caused by interactions between vortex and blade through the 5-hole pilot tubes. And, also, two different blades in stiffness had been prepared for observing those characteristics above in this experiment. The results were compared with the given stiffness of blade, as well. According to the results, it is clear to recognize that the vibration spectrum increases while air speed and angle of attack increase, and, also, less stiffness means bigger vibration spectrum.

  • The ground resonance instability of a helicopter with bearingless main rotor hub were investigated. The ground resonance instability is caused by an interaction between the blade lag motion and hub inplane motion. This instability occurs when the helicopter is on the ground and is important for soft-inplane rotors where the rotating lag mode frequency is less than the rotor rotational speed. For the analysis, the bearingless rotor was composed of blades, flexbeam, torque tube, damper, shear restrainer, and pitch links. The fuselage was modeled as a mass-damper-spring system having natural frequencies in roll and pitch motions. The rotor-fuselage coupling equations are derived in non-rotating frame to consider the rotor and fuselage equations in the same frame. The ground resonance instabilities for three cases where are without lead-lag damper and fuselage damping, with lead-lag damper and without fuselage damping, and finally with lead-lag damper and fuselage damping. There is no ground resonance instability in the only rotor-fuselage configuration with lead-lag damper and fuselage damping.

  • AQ Cassiopeiae (BD+61`0242, uv=10, Sp=B3+Bg) is a totally eclipsing binary system with the obital period of about 12 days. 71 was observed for 15 nights in 1985 with the1.8-m telescope at the DAO, employing a Reticon and a three-stage image tube attached to the spectrograph. And also, photometric observations of AQ Cas had been made inUBv for six years from 1982 to 1988 at Yonsei University Observatory(YUO). This work includes UBV observations obtained at YUO as a part of The Ten-Year Observing Program(1982-1992). Double lined radial, velocity curves and Ufv light curves of AQC as are constructed. The light curves and radial velocity curves show a strong evidence of circumstellar matter or mass stream. It is clear at the phases of just outside externaleclipse contacts, particularly at phase 0.8-0.9, shown in Figures 1 and 2. A solution by combining the radial velocity and photometric curves of the binary was obtained with the Wilson-Devinney Code. We found that the system is semi-detached with the coolcomponent filling its Roche lobe. The absolute dimensions of AQ Cas are calculated. The result shows that this system consists of two massive and subgiant stars.

  • Thermal cracking is commonly modeled as plug flow reaction, neglecting the lateral gradients present. In this paper, 2-dimensional computational fluid dynamics including turbulence model and molecular reaction scheme are carried out. This simulation is solved by means of coupled implicit scheme for stable convergence of solution. The reactor is modeled as an isothermal tube, whose length is 1.2 m and radius is 0.01 m, respectively. At first, The radial profile of velocity and temperature at each point are predicted in its condition. Then the bulk temperature and conversion curve along the axial direction are compared with other published data to identify the reason why discussed variations of properties are important to product yield. Finally, defining a new non-dimensional number, Effect of interaction with turbulence, heat transfer and chemical reaction are discussed for design of thermal cracking furnace.

  • In this talk we outline the current understanding of solar flares, mainly focusing on magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) processes. A flare causes plasma heating, mass ejection, and particle acceleration which generates high-energy particles. The key physical processes producing a flare are: the emergence of magnetic field from the solar interior to the solar atmosphere (flux emergence), formation of current-concentrated areas (current sheets) in the corona, and magnetic reconnection proceeding in a current sheet to cause shock heating, mass ejection, and particle acceleration. A flare starts with the dissipation of electric currents in the corona, followed by various dynamic processes that affect lower atmosphere such as the chromosphere and photosphere. In order to understand the physical mechanism for producing a flare, theoretical modeling has been develops, where numerical simulation is a strong tool in that it can reproduce the time-dependent, nonlinear evolution of a flare. In this talk we review various models of a flare proposed so far, explaining key features of individual models. We introduce the general properties of flares by referring observational results, then discuss the processes of energy build-up, release, and transport, all of which are responsible for a flare. We will come to a concluding viewpoint that flares are the manifestation of the recovering and ejecting processes of a global magnetic flux tube in the solar atmosphere, which has been disrupted via interaction with convective plasma while rising through the convection zone.

  • Multi-level (macro-level, meso-level, and micro-level) mechanism of prefinitely strained concrete materials os studied The multi-level analysis explains the additional quasibrittle concrete material ductility that comes from lateral confinement and their multi-level interaction mechanisms. The so-called "upgraded tube-squash test" is used to achieve 50% axial strain and over 70 degree of deviatoric strain of quasibrittle concrete materials under extremely high pressure without producing visible cracks. In the micro-level analysis, the variations of hydration rte, micropores, and hydrate phased are analyzed. In the meso-level analysis, mesocracks (the initial invisible cracks) at the interfaces between aggregates and cement paste matrices are studied. The high confining effect in the specimen on the meso-level cracks is also studied. In the macro-level analysis, the physical behavior of prefinitely strained concrete materials is studied. The co-relationships of the results from the three distinct levels of analyses based in various prestraining (0%, 15%, 35%, and 50%) are studied. For the extremely deformed or strained concrete problems, multi-level analysis will be used to explain the unclear and unstudied mechanism of concrete materials, The multi-level analysis can provide us with valuable insights that can explain the additional ductility and confining effect in concrete. concrete.

  • High strength steel is widely used in industrial applications to improve the load-bearing capacity and reduce the overall weight and cost. To take advantage of the benefits of this type of steel in construction, an innovative hybrid fabricated member consisting of high strength steel tubes welded to mild steel plates has recently been developed. Component-scale uniaxial and multiaxial cyclic experiments have been conducted with simultaneous constant or varying axial compression loads using a multi-axial substructure testing facility. The structural interaction of high strength steel tubes with mild steel plates is investigated in terms of member capacity, strength and stiffness deterioration and the development of plastic hinges. The deterioration parameters of hybrid specimens are calibrated and compared against those of conventional steel specimens. Effect of varying axial force and loading direction on the hysteretic deterioration model, failure modes and axial shortening is also studied. Plate and tube elements in hybrid members interact such that the high strength steel is kept within its ultimate strain range to prevent sudden fracture due to its low ultimate to yield strain ratio while the ductile performance of plate governs the global failure mechanism. High strength material also significantly reduces the axial shortening in columns which prevents undesirable frame deformations.

  • MPW(Magnetic Pulse Welding) is a technologies for welding of metals by means of repulsive force on account of the interaction between electro-magnetic field of coil and current induced in outer pipe. These MPW is one of the most useful welding process of welding ability of the dissimilar metal in which cylindrical materials, such as pipe, tube. As the quality of a weld joint is strongly influenced by process parameters during the welding process and the success of the welding to evaluated according to the leakage pressure. Generally, the process parameters is magnetic pressure, the gap between outer pipe and inner pipe, and the ratio of thickness to diameter of pipe(D/T) in MPW. Therefore, the goal of this study was to explain the effect of parameters on the weld joint leakage pressure. For these purposes, FFD(Fractional Factorial Design) were used for the experiment. The measured data were analyzed by regression analysis and verification experiments with random condition were conducted to confirm the suggested experimental model.
