  • Traffic accidents in tunnel can lead to large traffic accidents due to narrow and dark road characteristics. Therefore, special care of the driver is required when is driving in a tunnel. However, accidents can happen at any time. In the event of an accident, a narrow road structure may lead to a second accident. Therefore, all facilities installed inside the tunnel should be allowed to minimize damage in the event of an accident. We confirmed the safety of the collision target through the action of the sedan, Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) and truck when the vehicle crashed into a stairway installed on the tunnel emergency escape route, and when a concrete barrier or guard rail was installed in front of the stairway. The behavior of the vehicle has resulted in a total of three results: rollover or rollover, change of speed and angle of the vehicle after collision. The sedan and SUV were the most secure when colliding with the guardrail, but considering the truck as a whole, concrete barriers were judged to be the most suitable for minimizing damage from the first accident and reducing the risk of the second accident.

  • A 30-year-old, male truck driver had a traffic accident and visited a hospital due to left hip pain. The patient's femoral head was fractured, and he was treated conservatively. For 14 years afterwards, he walked without a limp, had no pain, and drove his truck. He was involved in another traffic accident and experienced a comminuted fracture of the left distal femur 14 years after the initial injury. Although he was symptom-free, while being treated by open reduction and internal fixation for the distal femur fracture, he was concerned about the status of his left femoral head. Pelvis radiographs and reconstructed CT images were done, and they showed a spur change around the femoral head which had a dense sclerotic band within and revealed a slight depression of subchondral bone of the medial portion of the femoral head. The diagnosis was a Pipkin type-II fracture of the femoral head.

  • In this paper the start fuel index was developed to estimate ride quality of a forklift truck during the start motion. Through the consultation with test drivers, definition of start feel was made, and three parameters were selected to describe the start motion. They are engagement shock in the forwarding direction, vertical and pitch vibration respectively. To find out the relation between the measured motion and the subjective fueling, both the subjective rating and the measurement of vehicle motions were performed simultaneously. The correlation analysis between the two kinds of results showed start fuel was expressed by the measured accelerations with accuracy and reliability, Use of the new index has advantages of not only evaluating start fuel only by the measured signals but providing the consistent results which are not affected by physical and mental state of a test driver. Usefulness of the new index was confirmed by verification test on four new forklift trucks of a same model, which showed the order of preference by the index was coincided that by subjective evaluation.

  • This study developed applications that allows truck drivers to record ore production data using smart devices at mine sites and to create a daily work report (operation report) in a PC environment. For this, four operating mines in Korea were selected as study areas, and daily work reports used there were investigated. The information elements included in the daily work report of each mine were analyzed. Because the information to be collected for writing ore production data and format of report are different for each mine, four types of applications were developed for the study areas. Ore production data could be recorded by receiving a signal from a Bluetooth beacon and by operating the application directly by the truck driver. The collected data files are uploaded to the cloud server, and the uploaded data files can be converted into a daily work report using the developed applications in a PC environment.

  • The platooning refers to a form in which one or more following vehicles along the path of the leading vehicle(directly driven by the driver) drive in one platoon using V2V, V2I communication and vehicle-mounted sensor. Platooning has emerged in line with the increasing demand for cargo volume and advanced transportation logistics systems, and is expected to have effects such as increasing capacity, reducing labor costs, and reducing fuel consumption. However, compared to general passenger cars, research on autonomous driving of trucks and verification of their effects are insufficient. Therefore, in this study, meta-analysis was conducted on the theme of the effect of truck platooning, and the results of existing studies related to platooning effects were integrated into one reliable, generalized, and objective summary estimate. In conclusion, it was analyzed that the introduction of truck platooning would have an effect of 13.93% increase in capacity, 38.76% decrease in conflict, and 8.13% decrease in fuel consumption.

  • Management of driver hours of service (HOS) for commercial vehicle operators has been a continual safety challenge. One of the more critical issues to government and motor carriers is fatigue and fatigue-related accidents. To reduce truck drivers’fatigue-related accident risk in other countries, the government issued the HOS regulations. However, korea government does not have any HOS regulations. The objective of this research gives the clues that korea should have the HOS regulation to reduce truck drivers’fatigue-related accident risk. This study examines the HOS regulation over other countries and conducts relative accident risk analysis using the real data from 3 freight companies. The data set includes 231 accident involved drivers and 462 non-accident drivers. Therefore, the size of the total data set is 693 drivers. One of the most important aspects of early studies of safety and HOS was the need to characterize continuous driving by using the notion of "survival". Subsequent research used a data replication scheme and logistic regression to capture the survival effect. This study uses time-dependent logistic regression. The test of significance between parameters indicates that the first three hours are almost the same risk. In the 10th hour of driving, the risk was more than 2.2times that in the baseline first hour. In conclusion, as driving time goes on, the crash risk increases.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the psychological state and driving safety of drivers driving around the truck platoon driving. Using the driving simulator, the experimental environment was constructed with the situation of changing lanes to the platoon and driving within the platoon. We tried to qualitatively and quantitatively analyze the driver's psychological state and driving safety through simulation driving experiments. As a result, in the case of the older driver group, there were many cases where they judged themselves to be driving safely, even though they were driving dangerously in the actual lane change to the platoon or driving within the platoon. In particular, this group showed that the narrower the distance between vehicles, the greater the misrecognition. The results of this study are expected to be useful in deriving the optimum interval when the interval between platooning of trucks needs to be temporarily extended.

  • Modern transmission technologies such as automated manual transmission(AMT) and dual clutch transmission(DCT) are interested to all manufactures due to their fuel efficiency and driver's convenience, especially in a hybrid system. AMT has advantages in that they have a high efficiency of manual transmissions(MT) and offer operation convenience similar to automatic transmissions(AT), but it has some disadvantages in that they have torque gap during gear shift and shift time. To reduce disadvantages, it is necessary to evaluate errors and characteristics as a developing simulation model before experimental verification. The purpose of this study is to develop virtual components and simulate the transient response of AMT. A dynamic AMT model and a control logic for an integrated vehicle model have been developed using Matlab/Simulink as a simulation platform. In this paper, the clutch model to describe the stick-slip transition mode and the transmission model to describe the neutral gear shifting is introduced and compared with each other.

  • Achievement degree can be improved by display offering more effective process about cognitive, pattern recognition than making observers use memory, integration, and cognitive process of control. And this research is proved by several scholars' researches [4][5][7][9]. In this study, researches was conducted about cognition according to layout of object in instrument panel. To decide layout of instrument panel, Cognition value was preferentially decided about all location. And then, objects are arranged to correct position of low cognition following the inferior procedure about each location. As a result, we get conclusion that gauge location is taken in high importance order through mechanical importance degree bringing huge damage during driving forklift-truck.

  • This paper evaluates crashworthiness of KHST carbodies under the SNCF accident scenario (collision against a movable rigid mass of 15 tons at 110 kph) and the scenario of train-to-train collision at 30 kph. The numerical results show that the final design of the KHST power-car doesn't have a good response on crashworthiness. So an improved design has been suggested for it. The improved design has shown good performances in the viewpoint of energy absorption and survival space at several numerical simulations, such as the accident collided against a deformable dump truck of 15 tons at 110 kph, the driver's dummy analysis, and the accident of train-to-train collision for the first three units at 30 kph.
