The results of an experimental study on Saemangeum dredged sands are presented. Undrained triaxial compression tests were performed with there different initial relative densities, namely 18, 34, and 50%, intend to evaluate undrained Behavior. All undrained triaxial compression tests were performed under static loading conditions. Undrained triaxial compression tests were exhibited complete static liquefaction, zero effective confining pressure and zero stress difference at lower confining pressures. As confining pressures were increased, the effective stress paths indicated increasing resistance to static liquefaction by showing increasing dilatant tendencies. The fines and larger particles create a particle structure with high compressibility at lower confining pressure. The effect of increasing relative density was to increase the resistance of the sand against static liquefaction by making the sand more dilatant.
Solutions of geotechnical engineering problems require predictions of deformation and stresses during various stages of loading. Powerful numerical methods are available to make such predictions even for complicated problems. To get accurate results, realistic stress-strain relationships of soils are dependent on a number of factors such as soil type, density, stress level and stress path. Attempts are continuously being made to develope analytical models for soils incorporating all such factors. Isotropic compression-expansion test and a series of drained conventional triaxial tests with several stress path for Baekma river sand were performed to investigate stress-strain and volume change characteristics of Lade's single work hardening model dependant on the stress path. In order to predicted of stress-strain and volumetric strain behavior were determined the values of parameters for the mode by the computer program based on the regression analysis. Predicted stress-strain behavior of triaxial compression tests and optional stress path tests for increasing confining pressure with parameters obtained conventional triaxial compression tests agreed with several test results but the prediction results for decreasing confining pressure reduced triaxial compression tests make a little difference with test results.

Tests of cylindrical concrete specimens under lateral confining pressure of up to 5,000 psi were conducted for two different axial loading cases: monotonic compression and monotonic tension. The purpose of this experimental investigation is to provide stress-strain characteristics of plain concrete in triaxial stress conditions. Lateral confining pressure levels, loading rates, and strength of concrete specimens are varied as parameters. The loading rates are $34.75$\times$10^{-5}$ in/in/sec for fast, $\times$$6.95x10^{-5}$ in/in/sec for normal. and $0.579$\times$10^{-5}$ in/in/sec for slow loading cases. The concrete specimens used in the experiment have compressive strength of 3,500 psi and 6,500 psi, respectively. Findings of this experiment include dependency of the stress-strain behavior of concrete on the above parameters under two different types of loading conditions. The parametric study includes a series of 106 triaxial tests.
The excessive settlement and deformation of disintegrated carbonaceous mudstone (DCM) embankments under dynamic loading have long been problems for engineers and technicians. In this work, the characteristics and mechanism of the plastic deformation of DCM under different degrees of compaction, water contents and confining pressures were studied by static triaxial, dynamic triaxial and scanning electron microscopy testing. The research results show that the axial stress increases with increasing confining pressure and degree of compaction and decreases with increasing water content when DCM failure. The axial strain at failure of the DCM decreases with increasing confining pressure and degree of compaction and increases with increasing water content. Under cyclic dynamic stress, the change in the axial stress level of the DCM can be divided into four stages: the stable stage, transition stage, safety reserve stage and unstable stage, respectively. The effects of compaction, water content and confining pressure on the critical axial stress level which means shakedown of the DCM are similar. However, an increase in confining pressure reduces the effects of compaction and water content on the critical axial stress level. The main deformation of DCM is fatigue cracking. Based on the allowable critical axial stress, a method for embankment deformation control was proposed. This method can determine the degree of compaction and fill range of the embankment fill material according to the equilibrium moisture content of the DCM embankment.
This study consolidation undrain Triaxial Compression Tests using constant confining pressure in clay that receive preconsolidation stress that is different and, void ratio, pore water pressure coefficient, shear strength compare with another thing theory and studied analyzing change relation of elastic modules. The summary of analysis is follows: If preconsolidation stress increases in same confining stress in relation of preconsolidation stress and deviator stress, deviator stress is proportional and increased. Can know that excess void pressure is proportional and decreases in size of preconsolidation stress in same confining stress state if preconsolidation stress increases preconsolidation stress and relation of excess void pressure. Also, over consolidated state can assume that this is thing by Dilatancy's effect though excess void pressure decreased remarkably. Preconsolidation stress and relation of stress path can know that shear strength degree increases preconsolidation stress increases, and specially, preconsolidation stress was appear in stress path form of overconsolidated state case of clay that receive at 300, 400, 500kPa in 100, 150kPa's deviator stress.

Cementitious materials such as Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), fly ash, lime, and bitumen have been employed for soil improvement over the years. However, due to the environmental concerns associated with the use of OPC, substituting OPC with calcium sulfoaluminate (CSA) cement offers good potential for ground improvement because it is more eco-friendly. Although earlier research has investigated the stabilizing effects of CSA cement-treated sand, no attempt has been made to examine soil behavior under high confining pressure. As a result, this study aimed to investigate the shear strength and mechanical behavior of CSA cement-treated sand using a consolidated drained (CD) triaxial test with high confining pressure. The microstructure of the examined sand samples was investigated using scanning electron microscopy. This study used sand with CSA cement contents of 3%, 5%, and 7% and confining pressures of 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 MPa. It revealed that the confining pressures and CSA cement content significantly affected the stress-strain and volumetric change behavior of CSA cement-treated sand at high confining pressures.
Unlike artificially created homogeneous materials, the process of calculating the elastic modulus of natural soil involves the possibility of errors. Because the stress-strain behavior of soil is nonlinear, the secant modulus of elasticity is often used based on 1/2 of the stress at failure. Since soil has the property of changing its elastic modulus depending on the confining pressure, numerical analysis models that analyze its behavior inevitably include complex elements. The hyperbolic model, which relatively accurately simulates the behavior immediately after loading in soft ground, assumes that the stress-strain curve of the consolidated undrained triaxial test is hyperbolic and requires the slope of the tangent line at the starting point. However, the slope of the initial tangent in the stress-strain curve obtained from an actual triaxial test is difficult to have regularity according to changes in confining pressure. Additionally, due to the characteristics of a hyperbola, even small changes in related factors cause large changes in the hyperbola. Therefore, there is a lot of randomness in the process of calculating model parameters from the triaxial test results, which causes large differences in the results. Therefore, the method of calculating the initial elastic modulus by the consolidation test presented in this study is also used to verify the method by the triaxial test. It can be applied. However, since this study was applied to only one sample showing typical consolidation characteristics, it is necessary to check samples with various physical properties in the future.
This study was carried out to investigate the liquefaction behaviour of saturated silty sand under monotonic loading conditions. The undrained soil tests were conducted using a modified triaxial cell and specimens were prepared using the moisture tamping method. Undrained triaxial compression tests were performed at different confining pressures, void ratios and overconsolidation ratios and the samples were sheared to axial strains of about 20% to obtain monotonic loading conditions. It is shown that increasing confining pressures, void ratios and overconsoildation ratios increases the deviator stress, but it has no effect on increasing the dilatant tendencies. It is shown that complete static liquefaction was observed regardless of increases in the confining pressure, void ratio and overconsolidation ratio. Therefore, the confining pressure, void ratio and overconsoildation ratio does not provide significant effects on the liquefaction resistance of the silty sand. The presence of fines in the soil was shown to greatly increase the potential for static liquefaction and creates a particle structure with high compressibility for all cases.
It is important to estimate the shear strength of shallow compacted soils as a construction material. A series of constant water content triaxial compression (CWCC) tests under low confining state in this study were performed on compacted geomaterials. For establishing a relationship of the shear strengths between saturated and unsaturated states on compacted geomaterials, the suction stresses were derived by two methods: the conventional suction-measured method and the Suction stress-SWRC Method (SSM). Considering the suction stress as an equivalent confining stress component in the (${\sigma}_{net}$, ${\tau}$) plane, it was found that the peak deviator stress states agree well with the failure line of the saturated state from the triaxial compression test when the SSM is applied to obtain the suction stress. On the other hand, the cavitation phenomenon on the measurement of suction affected the results of the conventional suction-measured method. These results mean that the SSM is distinctly favorable for obtaining the suction value in the CWCC test because the SSM is not restricted by the cavitation phenomenon. It is expected that the application of the SSM would reduce the time required, and the projected cost with the additional equipment such as a pore water measuring device in the CWCC test.
Shearing properties of soil reinforced with discrete randomly oriented inclusions depend on soil density, particle size, grading, fiber length, tensile strength and stiffness of fiber, mixing ration of fiber, confining stress, etc.. In this paper the effects of those various factors on shear strength of the fiber-reinforced soil was evaluated through triaxial tests and uniaxial tests. Tests were performed on two sandy soils and one silty soil with inclusions in varing lengths, contents and tensile strengths and tested at different confining stresses in triaxial test. From the experimental results, it was investigated if there is an optimal range of fiber lengths and fiber contents for the tested soils.
