In this study, the fuzzy programming is extended to handle various types of membership functions by transformation of the complicated fuzzy programming problems into the equivalent crisp linear programming problems with single objective. It is well-known that the fuzzy programming problem with linear membership functions (i.e., ramp type) can be easily transformed into a linear programming problem by introducing one dummy variable to minimize the worst unwanted deviation. However, until recently not many researches have been done to handle various general types of complicated linear membership functions which might be more realistic than ramp-or triangular-type functions. In order to handle these complicated membership functions, the goal dividing concept, which is based on the fuzzy set operation (i. e., intersection and union operations), has been prepared. The linear model obtained using the goal dividing concept is more efficient and single than the previous models [4, 8]. In addition, this result can be easily applied to any nonlinear membership functions by piecewise approximation since the membership function is continuous and monotone increasing or decreasing.

In this paper, we introduce fuzzy inference-based real-time deterioration diagnosis system with the aid of infrared thermal imaging camera. In the proposed system, the infrared thermal imaging camera monitors diagnostic field in real time and then checks state of deterioration at the same time. Temperature and variation of temperature obtained from the infrared thermal imaging camera variation are used as input variables. In addition to perform more efficient diagnosis, fuzzy inference algorithm is applied to the proposed system, and fuzzy rule is defined by If-then form and is expressed as lookup-table. While triangular membership function is used to estimate fuzzy set of input variables, that of output variable has singleton membership function. At last, state of deterioration in the present is determined based on output obtained through defuzzification. Experimental data acquired from deterioration generator and electric machinery are used in order to evaluate performance of the proposed system. And simulator is realized in order to confirm real-time state of diagnostic field

This paper concerns Fuzzy Radial Basis Function Neural Network (FRBFNN) and automatic rule generation of extraction of the FRBFNN by means of mountain clustering. In the proposed network, the membership functions of the premise part of fuzzy rules do not assume any explicit functional forms such as Gaussian, ellipsoidal, triangular, etc., so its resulting fitness values (degree of membership) directly rely on the computation of the relevant distance between data points. Also, we consider high-order polynomial as the consequent part of fuzzy rules which represent input-output characteristic of sup-space. The number of clusters and the centers of clusters are automatically generated by using mountain clustering method based on the density of data. The centers of cluster which are obtained by using mountain clustering are used to determine a degree of membership and weighted least square estimator (WLSE) is adopted to estimate the coefficients of the consequent polynomial of fuzzy rules. The effectiveness of the proposed model have been investigated and analyzed in detail for the representative nonlinear function.

In this paper, we design an Fuzzy-Neural Networks(FNN) by means of divisions of fuzzy input space with multi-input variables. Fuzzy input space of Yamakawa's FNN is divided by each separated input variable, but that of the proposed FNN is divided by mutually combined input variables. The membership functions of the proposed FNN use both triangular and gaussian membership types. The parameters such as apexes of membership functions, learning rates, momentum coefficients, weighting value, and slope are adjusted using genetic algorithms. Also, an aggregate objective function(performance index) with weighting value is utilized to achieve a sound balance between approximation and generalization abilities of the model. To evaluate the performance of the proposed model, we use the data of sewage treatment process.

Software qualify models can predict the risk of faults in the software early enough for cost-effective prevention of problems. This paper introduces a least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) as a fuzzy regression method for predicting fault ranges in the software under development. This LS-SVM deals with the fuzzy data with crisp inputs and fuzzy output. Predicting the exact number of bugs in software is often not necessary. This LS-SVM can predict the interval that the number of faults of the program at each session falls into with a certain possibility. A case study on software reliability problem is used to illustrate the usefulness of this LS -SVM.

Derivation of TSK fuzzy model from nonlinear differential equation is fundamental issue in the field of theoretical fuzzy control. The method which does not yield affine local differential equations at off-equilibrium points is proposed in this paper. A prototype TSK fuzzy model which has triangular membership functions for linguistic terms of the antecedent part is derived systematically. And then GA is used to modify the membership functions optimally. Simulation results show the validity of the proposed method.

In this study, we introduce the adaptive Polynomial Neuro-Fuzzy Networks(PNFN) architecture generated from the fusion of fuzzy inference system and PNN algorithm. The PNFN dwells on the ideas of fuzzy rule-based computing and neural networks. Fuzzy inference system is applied in the 1st layer of PNFN and PNN algorithm is employed in the 2nd layer or higher. From these the multilayer structure of the PNFN is constructed. In order words, in the Fuzzy Inference System(FIS) used in the nodes of the 1st layer of PNFN, either the simplified or regression polynomial inference method is utilized. And as the premise part of the rules, both triangular and Gaussian like membership function are studied. In the 2nd layer or higher, PNN based on GMDH and regression polynomial is generated in a dynamic way, unlike in the case of the popular multilayer perceptron structure. That is, the PNN is an analytic technique for identifying nonlinear relationships between system's inputs and outputs and is a flexible network structure constructed through the successive generation of layers from nodes represented in partial descriptions of I/O relatio of data. The experiment part of the study involves representative time series such as Box-Jenkins gas furnace data used across various neurofuzzy systems and a comparative analysis is included as well.

Air quality and pollution have recently become a major concern; vehicle emissions significantly pollute the air, especially in large and crowded cities. There are various factors that affect vehicle emissions; this research aims to find the most influential factors affecting $CO_2$ and $NO_x$ emissions using Adaptive Neural Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) as well as a systematic approach. The modified ANFIS (MANFIS) was developed to enhance modelling and Root Mean Square Error was used to evaluate the model performance. The results show that percentages of $CO_2$ from trucks represent the best input combination to model. While for $NO_x$ modelling, the best pair combination is the vehicle delay and percentage of heavy trucks. However, the final MANFIS structure involves two inputs, three membership functions and nine rules. For $CO_2$ modelling the triangular membership function is the best, while for $NO_x$ the membership function is two-sided Gaussian.

In this paper, we design fuzzy inference-based deterioration diagnosis system through different image for rapid as well as efficient diagnosis of electrical equipments. When the deterioration diagnosis of the electrical equipment starts, abnormal state of assigned area is detected by comparing with the temperature of the first normal state of the area. Deterioration state of detected area is diagnosed by using fuzzy inference algorithm. In the fuzzy inference algorithm, fuzzy rules are defined by If-then form and are described as look-up table. Both temperature and its ensuing variation are used as input variables. While triangular membership function is used for the fuzzy input variables of fuzzy rules, singleton membership function is used for the output variable of fuzzy rules. The final output is calculated by using the center of gravity of fuzzy inference method. Experimental data acquired from individual electrical equipments is used in order to evaluate the output performance of the proposed system.
In this paper, we analyze the input-output characteristics of fuzzy inference systems according to the division of entire input spaces and the fuzzy reasoning methods to identify the fuzzy model for nonlinear process. And fuzzy model is expressed by identifying the structure and parameters of the system by means of input variables, fuzzy partition of input spaces, and consequence polynomial functions. In the premise part of the rules Min-Max method using the minimum and maximum values of input data set and C-Means clustering algorithm forming input data into the hard clusters are used for identification of fuzzy model and membership function is used as a series of triangular membership function. In the consequence part of the rules fuzzy reasoning is conducted by two types of inferences. The identification of the consequence parameters, namely polynomial coefficients, of the rules are carried out by the standard least square method. And lastly, we use gas furnace process which is widely used in nonlinear process and we evaluate the performance for this nonlinear process.
