  • Objective : The aim of this study was to review the use of Korean medicine (KM) or Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) therapies among children with cerebral palsy (CP). Method : Literature searches were performed using Pudmed, CNKI, J-STAGE and four Korean databases. We investigated the frequency, types, predictors of the use of KM or CAM therapies used in children with CP. Results : Thirteen survey studies including use of KM or CAM among children with CP were selected - six Korean studies and seven overseas studies. The utilization rate of CAM among children with CP varied 26.8~56.0% according to the studies. CP children used KM or CAM more than other children with chronic disease. Acupuncture and Korean herbal medicine was the major treatment used in Korea, however physical manipulations such as massage, osteopathy and chiropractic were in high demand in western country. Disease severity of CP, use of CAM in the past by the parent or family member and high education of parent are the factors that significantly affect CAM utilization. Conclusion : Further studies on effectiveness and safety of KM therapies combined with conventional rehabilitation treatment would be required to expand the implementation of KM treatment for CP children.

  • The nitridation kinetics of titanium powder were studied by isothermal and non-isothermal (dynamic) methods in high purity nitrogen under I atm pressure. For the comparison with nitridation, the oxidation kinetics of titanium powder were also studied in dry oxygen at I atm pressure. An automatic recording electrobalance was used to measure the weight gain as a function of time and temperature. For the reaction with nitrogen, the nitride was formed at over $700^{\circ}C$. The reaction with nitrogen followed the parabolic rate law, and the activation energy was calculated to be 31 kcal/mol in the isothermal method (above $900^{\circ}C$). The non-stoichiometric TiNx has been synthesized by the nitridation at a proper temperature and time, followed by the homogenizing treatment above $1100^{\circ}C$. In comparison with the stoichiometric $TiN_{1.0}$ and the non-stoichiometric TiNx ($TiN_{0.5}$ and $TiN_{0.65}$), the hot oxidation characteristics of the former is superior to that of the latter. However, both non-stoichiometric nitrides make little difference in the hot oxidation characteristics.

  • The disadvantage of PMM's (polymer-modified mortars) that are currently on the market is the utilization of expensive polymer additives and also the cost of the other components. One of the possibilities how to decrease this price is the effective utilization of waste materials which are very inexpensive in spite of their good properties. The combinations of different degree in polymer adhesiveness and waste secondary raw materials - fly ash - are experimentally verified in the paper. The use of fly ash in adhesive materials for ceramic tiles is limited by unsatisfactory initial adhesiveness to sintered ceramic sherd as a result of a running pozzolanic reaction that lowers the efficiency of polymer additives. On the other hand, the use of adhesive and backfill coating materials for gluing ETICS board insulation materials has brought very good results.

  • Socioeconomic status in this county progressed rapidly, this has brought about many changes in health care fields, namely, pattern of disease prevalence and morbidity, increase of the aged people, and also availability of health care in rural areas. According to the utilization study of medical care, it showed that the oriental medicine is used for the treatment of lasted chronic disease not the minor and common diseases which is quick in its effect. Particularly, in rural areas. prevalence of chronic disease is higher than that in urban areas. Although the health cafe need of the oriental medicine is high in rural areas, the distribution of manpower and facilities is lower than that in urban areas. Therefore the government has planned to implement the demonstration project for the oriental medicine at the designated 3 health centers in rural areas. The purpose of this study was to collect the utilization level of oriental medical care of the people in rural areas. To meet the purpose of this study, patient interview were applied. 790 patients visited to health center in project areas were selected and analyzed by experienced interviewers from 2 April to 21 April 1990. The major findings of this study were as follows ; 1) Of the 790 patients, 32.6 percent of the respondents had experience of using the oriental medicine. • A number of researches have been carried out regarding the utilization of nanocellulose(crystalline nanocellulose, microfibrillated cellulose, nanofibrillated cellulose) for the manufacture of various kinds of composites and functional products. However, only few research works on the manufacturing characteristics of nanocellulose could be found, although some companies started already the production of nanocellulose in commercial scale. However, the most important thing in commercializing of production and utilization of nanocellulose is to develop the economical and efficient process. Thus, this study was carried out in order to investigate the effects of refining, alkaline pre-treatment and grinder clearance on the characteristics of microfibrillated cellulose and energy consumption. There was no significant differences in crystalline index with the degree of microfibrillation. The initial fibrillation could be improved by refining pre-treatment, but its effect was not observed anymore since the fibrillation was done up to certain level by grinding. Refining pre-treatment did not improved the energy efficiency. Alkaline pre-treatment can be helpful because the swelling of pulp fiber will facilitate fibrillation. It was found that the decrease in grinder clearance was helpful to improve the energy efficiency.

  • The utilization of ozone as a disinfectant for removing poultry meat microorganisms and then cleaning the poultry rinse water was investigated. When microbial suspensions were treated with ozone at 2, 500ppm/min for 40min, microorganisms were not detectable perfectly. The bacteriocidal effect of ozone by temperature was enhanced greater at 7$^{\circ}C$ than $25^{\circ}C$. All poultry meat microorganisms were killed by ozone treatment at 1, 530ppm for 50min. The pathogenic bacteria such as Salmonella sp. were more vulnerable and not detected by ozone treatment for 20min. Ozonation of the suspension for 20min and 50min increased light transmission at 500nm to 58% and 145%, respectively. The order of COD removal was ozone treatment(21%), coagulant((Al)2SO4) treatment(41%), ozone treatment after coagulant treatment(54%).

  • The effect of dietary lipid factors (plant and animal oil, cholesterol and ${\beta}$-sitosterol) on the liver, serum, and egg yolk cholesterol levels of the laying hen was studied. Single Comb White Leghorn laying hens, at 28 weeks of age, were fed two basal diets containing 8.0% soybean oil or 8.0% fish oil, with or without supplemental cholesterol (1.0%), ${\beta}$-sitosterol (2.0%) or combinations of both. Restricting caloric intake resulted in significantly (p<.05) decreased egg production and the total amount of cholesterol excreted via the egg was significantly (p<.05) different among treatment groups. Cholesterol supplementation to the two basal diets resulted in a significant elevation of liver, serum and egg yolk cholesterol levels. The addition of ${\beta}$-sitosterol lowered the cholesterol levels in liver and serum, while increased in the egg yolk (SO + ST, FO + ST). The anticholesterogenic effect of dietary ${\beta}$-sitosterol was not clearly exhibited in this study.
