BACKGROUND: The pesticide residue in rotational crop is one of the main concerns to agricultural products because it has the potentiality of violating positive list system (PLS). Thus, the crops used for the rotational cultivation should be considered the pesticide residue patterns to meet the PLS guideline. In this study, we evaluated the residue patterns of fungicide azoxystrobin in radish based on plant back interval (PBI) experiment. METHODS AND RESULTS: Azoxystrobin was treated onto greenhouse soil at 217 g a.i./10a in two different regions. Radishes were sown onto the soil 30 and 60 days after azoxystrobin treatment. The soil and plant samples were subjected to a modified QuEChERS method and LC/MS/MS analyses to determine the residues of azoxystrobin. The methods were validated to meet the guidelines of the pesticide residue analysis recommended by the Rural Development Administration, Republic of Korea. Azoxystrobin was dissipated significantly in soil during the experimental period and found as a level less than 0.01 mg/kg in radish 30 and 60 days after treatment. Azoxystrobin residues in radish samples were lower than the maximum residue limit (MRL) for root vegetables. CONCLUSION(S): This study suggests 30 days as a PBI for rotational cultivation of radish in greenhouse soil that had been treated with azoxystrobin at a level of 217 g a.i./10a.

Background: Gunshot-related fractures near the elbow are challenging, and available data to guide the practitioner are lacking. This report analyzes injury patterns and treatment strategies in a case series from a high-volume urban trauma center. Methods: All periarticular gunshot fractures near the elbow treated at a level 1 trauma center from 2014 to 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Fracture location, patient demographics, concomitant injuries, treatment modalities, and complications were analyzed. Results: Twenty-four patients were identified. All patients received prophylactic antibiotics upon admission and underwent urgent surgical debridement. Open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) was performed with initial debridement in 22 of 24 patients. Seven patients sustained distal humerus fractures, 10 patients sustained isolated proximal ulna or proximal radius fractures, and seven had combined fracture patterns. Eleven patients presented with nerve palsy, and two had transected nerves. Two patients had vascular injury requiring repair. One patient required a temporary elbow-spanning external fixator and underwent staged debridement followed by ORIF. One patient with a grade IIIC fracture developed a deep infection that precluded ORIF. One patient required revision ORIF due to fracture displacement. Conclusions: This investigation reports on management of ballistic fractures near the elbow at a busy urban level I trauma center. Our management centered on rapid debridement, early definitive fixation, and intravenous antibiotic administration. We report on associated neurovascular injury, bone loss, and other challenges in this patient population. Level of evidence: IV.
Purpose: In this study, we evaluated the relation between surgical methods and reccurrence rate by investigating clinical, radiological aspects and histopathological patterns of 26 patients who were diagnosed with amelobalstoma. Patients and Methods: In this study, we retrospectively investigated 26 patients who were diagnosed with ameloblastoma and treated at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of Chosun University Dental Hospital from January 2000 to December 2008. Results: The patients comprised 12 males (46.1%) and 14 females (53.9%), and their ages ranged from 10 to 69 years (average, 37.3 years). All cases presented a mandibular location, and in particular, 13 cases (50%) demonstrated an occurrence in the mandibular body. Clinically, 8 cases (30.8%) presented no symptoms, and the most prevalent chief complaint was swelling in 13 cases (50%). Radiographically, a unilocular type appeared in 14 cases (53.8%), and a multilocular type was observed in 10 cases (38.5%). Histopathologically, there were 8 follicular types (30.8%) and 7 plexiform types (26.9%). Conservative treatment was performed in 5 cases (19.2%), and radical treatment was performed in 21 cases (80.8%). The follow-up period ranged from 1 to 10 years. The total recurrence rate was 15.4%, and the mean duration of recurrence was 6.7 years. Three of the 5 cases (60%) that received conservative treatment demonstrated a recurrence, as compared to 1 of the 21 cases (4.8%) that underwent radical treatment. Conclusion: The radical treatment was more effective than the conservative treatment for recurrence prevention. We should consider a continuous follow-up check after operation.
The purpose of this study is to develop eco-printing method using natural dyes combined with chitosan treatment to impart various pattern effect on cotton fabric. It was examined whether tone-on-tone pattern effects could be produced by screen printing with chitosan paste and subsequently dip-dyed in natural dye bath. For polychromic colorants, fabrics were pre-mordanted and then screen printed with chitosan, while only chitosan printing treatment was applied for monochromic colorants. Color, dye uptake, washing, light and rubbing fastnesses of printed fabrics were measured in relation to the presence of chitosan printing. Pre-mordanting and chitosan printing treatment were applied to such polychromic colorants as madder, sappanwood, onion and cochineal. Also, printing pattern formation on fabrics was evaluated by differences in dye uptake and color. The results suggested that madder, onion and cochineal were effective on pattern formation. Regarding sappanwood, since dye uptake was increased only by pre-mordanting without chitosan printing treatment, there was little color difference and thus patterns were not clearly distinguished. Chitosan printing treatment tended to increase washing, light and rubbing fastnesses of dyed fabrics with polychromic colorants. Chitosan printing treatment was applied to monochromic colorants such as chlorophyll, gardenia and indigo and the effect of printing formation was examined according to the difference in dye uptake. Among monochromic dyes tried, chlorophyll was effective and chitosan printing improved washing and light fastnesses.
To clarify the effect of anti-juvenile hormone analogue (AJH) on the larval ecdysis by feeding at early stage of the 4th instar, the total amount of protein and activity of chitinolytic enzymes in the integument of Bombyx mori were analyzed, PAGE pattern of the protein was observed and the morphological changes of integument during molting period were also observed and the morphological changes of integument during molting period were also observed by means of TEM. The total amount of protein was greatly increased in premolting, then reached maximum level just before ecdysis, and rapidly decreased after the larval ecdysis in the control, while in the AJH treatment, increased 12 hr later than the control and its maximum was only 82.6% of the control. Two specific proteins, which were presumed as the protein originated from endocuticle, also appeared 12 hr later than the control and were maintained to 132 hr after AJH treatment from the aspects of the Native- and SDS-PAGE patterns, although those of the control disappeared instantly after ecdysis. Chitinase and $\beta$-N-acetylglucosaminidase activities were also suppressed and delayed by AJH treatment. Furthermore, it was observed that the apolysis took place 12 hr later than the control but new epicuticle was not formed at least until 132 hr after AJH treatment. From these results, it is suggested that the larval molting process of silkworm develops 12 hr later than the control but new epicuticle was not formed at least until 132 hr after AJH treatment. The patients who have illness of hand and upper limb should be received rehabilitation treatment to recover such illness. The rehabilitation treatments is a treatments designed to facilitate the process of recovery from injury, illness, or disease to as normal a condition as possible. This should be done continuously and repeatedly. In this paper, we describe hand-rehabilitation system which provides a treatment method improving and recovering the function of injured hands. Expecially, this system is using a leap motion device which can easily and properly identify and trace a hand motion and provide six treatment patterns for hand rehabilitation. By using this system, the patients can do rehabilitation treatment easily and continuously in their daily life and in result, the achievement of treatment will be improved.

In order to study the relationship between resistance of tumor cells to anticancer drugs and immunologic cytotoxicity and their chromosome number, a line of cancer cells (NS-1) was exposed to BCNU and CCNU in vitro. Characteristics of the distribution of chromosome number of the survived cells were then comparatively analyzed. Effect of immune mediated cytotoxicity, i.e. complement and cell-mediated cytotoxicity, on the ploidy characteristics was observed in the same way. NS-1 cells were found to be a population of neoplastic cells of heterogeneity having 5 to 115 chromosomes per cell in metaphase. The majority of the cells were belong to the class of chromosome number 56 to 60 which were considered as the stem cell line. Dramatic changes in the distribution of chromosome number following drug treatment were not observed. However the range of chromosome distribution was slightly changed. Characteristics of chromosomal distribution of drug treated cells were not significantly varied by different doses of drug treated. Changed chromosomal distribution patterns of drug treated cells were reversible, especially the cells having 56 to 60 chromosomes recovered rapidly. Cells having 41-60 and 61-80 chromosomes among cells treated with BCNU and cells with 41-60 chromosomes after CCNU treatment were the major population which regenerated continuously. Following BCNU treatment cells having 61-80 chromosomes were not varied much whereas CCNU treatment affects the population in the same class. Chromosomal aberrations were significantly enhanced by BCNU and CCNU treatment. The frequency of chromosomal aberrations was greater in cells having more than 40 chromosomes compared with that in cells having less than 40 chromosomes. Changes in ploidy characteristics of the cells following complement mediated and cell mediated cytotoxicity were not significant. Therefore it was tentatively concluded that association of numerical distribution pattern of NS-1 cells with the response to the treatment used in this experiment was not recognized.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of BA, a growth regulator on enhancing propagation efficiency, and physical treatment on promotion of axillary bud generation in three hosta cultivars, 'Ellerbroek', 'Francee', and 'Halcyon'. These are cultivars suitable for cut foliage production among Hosta spp. because of their diverse leaf patterns and long vase life of cut foliage. The degree of axillary bud generation by treatment time and concentration of BA has not been proven to be extraordinarily effective as compared to not treated control. As a physical treatment, base wounding was more effective than stem cutting. In 'Ellerbroek', increase of axillary bud generation among treatment methods was not great. However, in 'Halcyon', base wounding had four more axillary buds per plant than not treated control. In addition, although number of axillary buds increased per plant by BA treatment and stem cutting was 2 and 1.8, respectively, it was 6.1 by base wounding, indicating the greatest effect on promotion of axillary bud generation among all treatments.

Objectives : The aim of this survey was to investigate the general characteristics of sports injury patients in Korean medical institutions by Korean Medicine Doctors (KMDs) and the treatment patterns of Korean medicine for ankle sprain which is one of the common sports injuries. Methods : An online survey was conducted on KMDs interested in sports injuries to assess their experience and perception of sports injuries including diagnosis, intervention, and treatment plan for ankle sprain. Results : A total of 276 KMDs participated in the survey. They answered that 12% (median, range 0~80%) of patients visiting a Korean medical institution had sports injuries. Sports injuries frequently occur in the ankle, back, shoulder, knee, and elbow and the most common sports injury was sprain/strain. Many participants were aware that sports injuries should be treated differently from other musculoskeletal diseases in general. They reported that confirmation of fracture, swelling, and tenderness was essential to diagnose ankle sprains. Acupuncture was the most commonly used treatment and reported to need 2 to 6 weeks of treatment period, depending on the severity. Conclusions : Based on the findings regarding treatment of sports injury patients by KMDs, this study would be utilized as basic information for pragmatic clinical research design related to sports medicine in the future.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequency, patterns, and factors of reversals in decisions about life-sustaining treatment (LST) among older patients with terminal-stage chronic cardiopulmonary disease. Methods: This was a retrospective correlational descriptive study based on medical chart review. De-identified patient electronic medical record data were collected from 124 deceased older patients with terminal-stage cardiopulmonary disease who had made reversals of LST decisions in an academic tertiary hospital in 2015. Data were extracted about the reversed LST decisions, LST treatments applied before death, and patients' demographic and clinical factors. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to identify the factors associated with the reversal to higher intensity of LST treatment. Results: The use of inotropic agents was the most frequently reversed LST treatment, followed by cardiopulmonary resuscitation, intubation, ventilator therapy, and hemodialysis. Inconsistency between the last LST decisions and actual treatments occurred most often in hemodialysis. One-third of the reversals in LST decisions were made toward higher intensity of LST treatment. Patients who had lung diseases (vs. heart diseases); were single, divorced, or bereaved (vs. married); and had an acquaintance as a primary decision maker (vs. the patients themselves) were significantly more likely to reverse the LST decisions to higher intensity of LST treatment. Conclusion: This study demonstrated the complex and turmoil situation of the LST decision-making process among older patients with terminal-stage cardiopulmonary disease and suggests the importance of support for patients and families in their LST decision-making process.
