  • Protocol testing techniques are expanded from the traditional simple function- testing based on the OSI model, to sophisticated performance testing, conformance testing and interoperability testing. In addition, both point-to-point and point-to-multipoint protocols are to be covered. This paper presents a new multiple-purpose protocol test system where the common platform includes the test sequence generation and test result analysis, and the modular test execution part is selectively adjusted according to the test purposes and protocols under test. This paper describes test system for network routing protocol and test system for transport protocol, designed upon the ideas of the multiple-purpose protocol test system.

  • Internet roundtrip delay/time (RTT) prediction plays an important role in detecting packet losses in reliable transport protocols for traditional web applications and determining proper transmission rates in many rate-based TCP-friendly protocols for Internet-based real-time applications. The widely adopted autoregressive and moving average (ARMA) model with fixed-parameters is shown to be insufficient for all scenarios due to its intrinsic limitation that it filters out all high-frequency components of RTT dynamics. In this paper, we introduce a novel parameter-varying RTT model for Internet roundtrip time prediction based on the information theory and the maximum entropy principle (MEP). Since the coefficients of the proposed RTT model are updated dynamically, the model is adaptive and it tracks RTT dynamics rapidly. The results of our experiments show that the MEP algorithm works better than the ARMA method in both RTT prediction and RTO estimation.

  • In this paper, we proposed the algorithm to run MCS protocol, the core technology of T.120 series, over Multicast Transport Protocol and described an implementation architecture we proposed. An algorithm implemented can utilize some functions of Multicast Transport Layer fully, keeping the backward compatibility with the existing Mes. In order to do so, when a connection sets up, the Multicast Transport Layer looks into whether that of the peer entity does have multicast functionality. If it has, multicast functionality can be used. Unless, it can not. We are going to contribute these technologies to IMTC organizing the interoperability test of T.l20 series.

  • NGN is a packet-based converged network to support session and non-session based services in QoS-enabled broadband transport technologies. Resource and admission control functions(RACF) of NGN have been considering COPS and SNMP as resource management protocols to collect network topology and resource status information of transport network. This paper defines requirements of resource management in NGN transport network, and proposes protocol independent information model to keep consistency of data models of each resource management protocol. Based on this information model described with UML class diagram, we designed and implemented NGN resource management system on Web Services.

  • Inter-vehicular communication that propagates information without infrastructures has drawn a lot of interest. However, it is difficult to apply conventional ad-hoc routing protocols directly in inter-vehicular communication due to frequent changes in the network topology caused by high mobility of the vehicles. MMFP(Multi-hop MAC Forwarding) is a unicast forwarding protocol that transport packets based on the reachability information instead of path selection or position information. However, delivering public safety messages informing road conditions such as collision, obstacles and fog through inter-vehicular communication requires broadcast rather than unicast since these messages contain information valuable to most drivers within a close proximity. Flooding is one of the simplest methods for multi-hop broadcast, but it suffers from reduced packet delivery-ratio and high transmission delay due to an excessive number of duplicated packets. This paper presents two multi-hop broadcast protocols for inter-vehicular communication that extend the MMFP. UMHB(Unreliable Multi-Hop Broadcast) mitigates the duplicated packets of MMFP by limiting the number of nodes to rebroadcast packets. UMHB, however, still suffers from low delivery ratio. RMHB(Reliable Multi-Hop Broadcast) uses acknowledgement and retransmission in order to improve the reliability of UMHB at the cost of increase in transmission delay, which we show through simulation is within an acceptable range for collision avoidance application.

  • One of the most widely-used open source project; OpenSSL is a cryptography library that is used to secure most web sites, servers and clients. One can secure the communication with the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) or its successor, Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocols by using the OpenSSL library. Since cryptography protocols will be updated and enhanced in order to keep the system protected, the library was written in such a way that simplifies the integration of new cryptographic methods, especially for the symmetric cryptography protocols. However, it gets a lot more complicated in adding an asymmetric cryptography protocol and no guide can be found for the integration of the asymmetric cryptography protocol. In this paper, we explained the architecture of the OpenSSL library and provide a simple tutorial to modify the OpenSSL library in order to accommodate custom protocols of both symmetric and asymmetric cryptography.

  • As application-specific requirements for wireless sensor networks emerge, both real-time and reliable communications become major research challenges in wireless sensor networks due to the many constraints on nodes and wireless links. To support these services, several protocols have been proposed. However, since most of them were designed as well as developed for general purpose applications, it is not recommended that they be directly adapted to applications with special requirements. In this paper, we propose a way to extend the current reliable transport protocol to cover a special real-time service, the (m,k)-firm deadline stream, in wireless sensor networks. While the proposed scheme is basically built on the PSFQ protocol for reliability, some features have been newly developed to support the (m,k)-firm stream efficiently. Finally, simulation results are given to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed scheme in high traffic and with failed links.
