Vanadium Dioxide has been investigated for use as a "spectrally-selective" window coating to block infrared transmission and reduce the loss of building interior heat through windows. The preparation of thermochromic $VO_2$ powder by the reductive reaction with hydrogen was studied. The reductive reaction method has many advantages of easy and mass production of $VO_2$ powder according to controlled reaction without semi-conductor equipments like sputter and beam evaporator. The reaction temperature, time, concentration of reductive gas, post-annealing condition and W addition as dopant would affect the characterization of $VO_2$ powder and its thermochromism. Many applications for electrical device and energy-saving technologies is expected.

An optical network-on-chip(ONoC) architecture is emerging as a new paradigm for solving on-chip communication bottleneck. Recent studies on ONoC have been focusing on supporting the parallel transmission and avoiding path collisions using wavelength division multiplexing(WDM). However, since the maximum number of wavelengths, which a single waveguide can accommodate is limited by crosstalk and insertion loss. Therefore previous WDM studies based on incrementing the number of different wavelengths according to the number of nodes would be infeasible due to the implementation complexity. To solve such problems, we combined time division multiplexing(TDM) and wavelength-routed ONoC, along with an optimized channel allocation algorithm, which can minimize the number of extra wavelength channels and latency caused by combining TDM scheme.

Wireless network has high BER characteristic because of path loss, fading, noise and interference. Many packet losses occur without any congestion in wireless network. Therefore, many wireless TCP algorithms have been proposed. SNOOP, one of wireless TCP algorithms, hides packet losses for Fixed Host and retransmits lost packets in wireless network. However, SNOOP has a weakness for bust errors in wireless network. This paper proposes the SACK-SNOOP to improve TCP performance based on SNOOP and Freeze-TCP that use ZWA messages in wireless network. This message makes FH stop sending packets to MH. BS could retransmit error packets to MH for this time. SACK-SNOOP use improved Selective ACK, thereby reducing the number of packet sequences according to error environment. This method reduces the processing time for generation, transmission, analysis of ACK. This time gain is enough to retransmit local burst errors in wireless link. Furthermore, SACK-SNOOP can manage the retransmitted error by extending delay time to FH. The simulation shows that our proposed protocol is more effective for packet losses in wireless networks.

A novel approach for electrocardiogram (ECG) analysis within a functional sensor node has been developed and evaluated. The main aim is to reduce data collision, traffic over loads and power consumption in healthcare applications of wireless sensor networks (WSN). The sensor node attached on the patient's bodysurface around the heart can perform ECG analysis based on a QRS detection algorithm to detect abnormal condition of the patient. Data transfer is activated only after detected abnormality in the ECG. This system can reduce packet loss during transmission by reducing traffic overload. In addition, it saves power supply energy leading to more reliable, cheap and user-friendly operation in the WSN based ubiquitous health monitoring.
High quality nanoparticles of neodymium barium niobium ($NdBa_2NbO_6$) perovskites have been synthesized using an auto ignition combustion technique for the first time. The nanoparticles thus obtained have been characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, thermo gravimetric analysis, differential thermal analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. UV-Visible absorption and photoluminescence spectra of the samples are also recorded. The structural analysis shows that the nano powder is phase pure with the average particle size of 35 nm. The band gap determined for $NdBa_2NbO_6$ is 3.9 eV which corresponds to UV-radiation for optical inter band transition with a wavelength of 370nm. The nanopowder could be sintered to 96% of the theoretical density at $1325^{\circ}C$ for 2h. The ultrafine cuboidal nature of nanopowders with fewer degree of agglomeration improved the sinterability for compactness at relatively lower temperature and time. During the sintering process the wide band gap semiconducting behavior diminishes and the material turns to a high permittivity dielectric. The microstructure of the sintered surface was examined using scanning electron microscopy. The striking value of dielectric constant ${\varepsilon}_r=43$, loss factor tan ${\delta}=1.97{\times}10^{-4}$ and the observed band gap value make it suitable for many dielectric devices.
This paper proposes four general wireless gateway types, which are distinguished by their own processing ways to connect between a wireless sub-network of things and the mobile internet that links mobile network to internet step by step. In this paper, we also design general processing procedures of these four types using the state transition model. Gateways of each types were developed on the basis of the resulted state transition models and their performances were evaluated through several tests, analyzed, and compared each other. As the results of our evaluation, compared with the other types, the type, which combines both of a low-power Sleep-interrupt way and polling ways for receiving data or responses in all the waiting states of a gateway, shows the best performance in all of data transmission real-timeliness, data loss and energy consumption.
Distributed Control System (DCS) communication networks, which use Fast Ethernet with redundant networks for the transmission of information, have been installed in digitalized nuclear power plants. Normally, failover tests are performed to verify the reliability of redundant networks during design and manufacturing phases; however, systematic integrity tests of DCS networks cannot be fully performed during these phases because all relevant equipment is not installed completely during these two phases. In additions, practical verification tests are insufficient, and there is a need to test the actual failover function of DCS redundant networks in the target environment. The purpose of this study is to verify that the failover functions works correctly in certain abnormal conditions during installation and commissioning phase and identify the influence of network failover on the entire DCS. To quantify the effects of network failover in the DCS, the packets (Protocol Data Units) must be collected and resource usage of the system has to be monitored and analyzed. This study introduces the use of a new methodology for verification of DCS network failover during the installation and commissioning phases. This study is expected to provide insight into verification methodology and the failover effects from DCS redundant networks. It also provides test results of network performance from DCS network failover in digitalized domestic nuclear power plants (NPPs).
In this paper, metal insulator metal (MIM) plasmonic slot cavity narrow band-pass filters (NBPFs) are studied. The metal and dielectric of the structures are silver (Ag) and air, respectively. To improve the quality factor and attenuation range, two novel NBPFs based on tapered structures and double cavity systems are proposed and numerically analyzed by using the two-dimensional (2-D) finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. The impact of different parameters on the transmission spectrum is scrutinized. We have shown that increasing the cavities' lengths increases the resonance wavelength in a linear relationship, and also increases the quality factor, and simultaneously the attenuation of the wave transmitted through the cavities. Furthermore, increasing the slope of tapers of the input and output waveguides decreases attenuation of the wave transmitted through the waveguide, but simultaneously decreases the quality factor, hence there should be a trade-off between loss and quality factor. However, the idea of adding tapers to the waveguides' discontinuities of the simple structure helps us to improve the device total performance, such as quality factor for the single cavity and attenuation range for the double cavity. According to the proposed NBPFs, two, three, and four-port power splitters functioning at 1320 nm and novel ultra-compact two-wavelength and triple-wavelength demultiplexers in the range of 1300-1550 nm are proposed and the impacts of different parameters on their performances are numerically investigated. The idea of using tapered waveguides at the structure discontinuities facilitates the design of ultra-compact demultiplexers and splitters.

In this paper, we analyze Shin's proposed dynamic ID-based user authentication scheme for TMIS(Telecare Medicine Information System), and Shin's authentication scheme is vulnerable to smart card loss attacks, allowing attackers to acquire user IDs, which enables user impersonation attack. In 2019, Shin's proposed authentication scheme attempted to generate a strong random number using ECC, claiming that it is safe to lose a smart card because it is impossible to calculate random number r'i due to the difficulty of the ECC algorithm without knowing random number ri. However, after analyzing Shin's authentication scheme in this paper, the use of transmission messages and smart cards makes it easy to calculate random numbers r'i, which also enables attackers to generate session keys. In addition, Shin's authentication scheme were analyzed to have significantly greater overhead than other authentication scheme, including vulnerabilities to safety analysis, the lack of a way to pass the server's ID to users, and the lack of biometric characteristics with slightly different templates.

The design of cluster-based routing protocols is necessary for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). But, due to the lack of features, the traditional methods face issues, especially on unbalanced energy consumption of routing protocol. This work focuses on enhancing the security and energy efficiency of the system by proposing Energy Efficient Based Secure Routing Protocol (EESRP) which integrates trust management, optimization algorithm and key management. Initially, the locations of the deployed nodes are calculated along with their trust values. Here, packet transfer is maintained securely by compiling a Digital Signature Algorithm (DSA) and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) approach. Finally, trust, key, location and energy parameters are incorporated in Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and meta-heuristic based Harmony Search (HS) method to find the secure shortest path. Our results show that the energy consumption of the proposed approach is 1.06mJ during the transmission mode, and 8.69 mJ during the receive mode which is lower than the existing approaches. The average throughput and the average PDR for the attacks are also high with 72 and 62.5 respectively. The significance of the research is its ability to improve the performance metrics of existing work by combining the advantages of different approaches. After simulating the model, the results have been validated with conventional methods with respect to the number of live nodes, energy efficiency, network lifetime, packet loss rate, scalability, and energy consumption of routing protocol.
