This paper discusses how to implement and verify a software model of the digital relay that can be added to real time digital simulator(RTDS) model library and is then subjected to the same outputs as the actual relay. The software model is stand-alone and can be used with real relays. It is also possible to conduct interactive real-time tests when the system effects of the relay action need to be investigated. The characteristics of mho type and the quadrilateral type, which is commonly used in recently developed relays, are modeled in this paper. Single circuit line and double circuit line system are used for model verification. The transmission lines are each 100 km in length and are modeled as distributed parameter lines but not frequency dependent. The transmission lines in the single circuit system are modeled as ideally transposed line. The mutual coupling data with the parallel line was taken account in the transmission lines for the double circuit system. The main CTs and PTs are included and operated in their linear region during the tests. For the purpose of testing the relay model accuracy the faults have been applied at various points on the protected line. Its accuracy is assessed against theoretical values.
This paper describes the assessment of proper location of lightning arrester in combined transmission line which is connected with overhead line and underground cable. The modeling for simulation is established using the actual system in ATP Draw and EMTP. Simulation is carried out to find out the best point to install the arrester in given the model system. And also voltage and current is analyzed on cable covering protection unit(CCPU). The simulation result demonstrated the best location of arrester in the given transmission line through the detailed analysis and its assessment.

This paper analysed the induced current density inside human body of hot-line worker for 765kV double circuit transmission line according to locations of human body. Human model was composed of several organs and other parts, whose shapes were expressed by spheroids or cylinders. Organs such as the brain, heart, lungs, liver and intestines were taken into account. Applying the 3 dimensional boundary element method, we calculated induced current density in case a worker was located inside and outside a lowest phase of 765 kV transmission line in which a 60% current of maximum load flowed. As results of study, we found a maximum induced current density in all organs was less than $10mA/m^2$ when a wonder was outside. As one in brain and heart was higher than $10mA/m^2$ when a worker was inside, we propose a method for lowering current density.

This paper suggests the method that forecasts Dynamic Line Rating (DLR). Thermal Overload Risk Probability (TORP) of the next time is forecasted based on the present weather conditions and DLR value by Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS). To model weather elements of transmission line for MCS process, this paper will propose the use of statistical weather models that time series is applied. Also, through the case study, it is confirmed that the forecasted TORP can be utilized as a criterion that decides DLR of next time. In short, proposed method may be used usefully to keep security and reliability of transmission line by forecasting transmission capacity of the next time.
Generation capacities and transmission line constraints in a competitive electricity market make it troublesome to compute Nash Equilibrium (NE) for analyzing participants' strategic generation quantities. The NE can cause a mixed strategy NE rather than a pure strategy NE resulting in a more complicated computation of NE, especially in a multiplayer game. A two-level hierarchical optimization problem is used to model competition among multiple participants. There are difficulties in using a mathematical programming approach to solve a mixed strategy NE. This paper presents heuristics applied to the mathematical programming method for dealing with the constraints on generation capacities and transmission line flows. A new formulation based on the heuristics is provided with a set of linear and nonlinear equations, and an algorithm is suggested for using the heuristics and the newly-formulated equations.

Nash Equilibrium (NE) is as useful tool for investigating a participant's strategic generation quantity in a competitive electricity market. Cournot model may give a mixed strategy NE instead of a pure strategy when transmission constraints are considered. A mixed strategy is difficult to compute, complicated to understand conceptually, and hard to implement in an electricity market practically. This paper presents that a mixed strategy does not appear in Stackelberg leader-follower model even under a transmission congestion. A solution method is proposed for the leader-follower model under a nondifferentiable space of a strategy variable. Based on the pure strategy NE with a transmission line congested, the merit of leader-follower model is shown from a social welfare point of view.
Due to the benefit of QRA(Quantitative Risk Analysis) method, we can evaluate the risk, and it helps us to make our safe. We also depend to some of correlation equations to assess the jet fire at high pressurized transmission line. However, we can evaluate the risk within limitations. After comparing the current model to investigation report of natural gas transmission line accident at EL-Paso in U.S., this study concludes that more research and study are required because currently developed model cannot expect factors of the fire risk such as flame configuration.

Modeling busbar distribution system as a transmission line is an important subject of power line communication in the smart grid concept. This requires extraction of busbar RLGC parameters, accurately. In this study, a comparison is made between conventional and modified method for the aspect of optimum RLGC parameters extraction in the 1 MHz to 50 MHz frequency band. The usefulness of these methods is shown both in time and frequency-domain analysis. The frequency-domain analyzes show that the inherent power of modified method can eliminate the errors especially due to the discontinuities arise in conventional method. This makes the modeling approach of modified method more advantageous for the busbars due to its robustness against disturbances in the S-parameters measurements which cannot be eliminated with the calibration procedure. On the other hand, time-domain simulations show that the transmission line representation of the modified method is closer to physical reality by handling causality issues.
This study was attempted to analyze risk factors and suggest accident prevention in live line works for power transmission lines to be developed and applied in Korea. Safety problem cannot but occur at development of live line works and application to the field. With respect to this, problems likely to occur in the field among works adopting methods of works including live line works for power transmission lines were investigated and analyzed through documentary survey and risk assessment method. The results are summarized as follows. A risk assessment method model was suggested. This method enables scientific and systematic development of safety control. That is, the owner may autonomously induce safety control and build risk assessment database by work process to use them as best training data for workers. Also, in the field, it may induce all workers to participate in safety program and secure safety by making workers seek for safety working method under smooth flow from looking at risk factors to accident prevention activities. It is deemed that this humble study will prevent both accident and injury likely to occur in live line works for power transmission lines.
Electricity is transmitted by transmission lines from the source of production to the distribution system and then to the end users. Failure of a transmission line can lead to devastating economic losses and to negative social consequences resulting from the interruption of electricity. A comprehensive in-house numerical model that combines the data of computational fluid dynamic simulations of tornado wind fields with three dimensional nonlinear structural analysis modelling of the transmission lines (conductors and ground-wire) is used in the current study. Many codes of practice recommend neglecting the tornado forces acting on the conductors and ground-wires because of the complexity in predicting the conductors' response to such loads. As such, real transmission line systems are numerically simulated and then analyzed with and without the inclusion of the lines to assess the effect of tornado loads acting on conductors on the overall response of transmission towers. In addition, the behaviour of the conductors under the most critical tornado configuration is described. The sensitivity of the lines' behaviour to the magnitude of tornado loading, the level of initial sag, the insulator's length, and lines self-weight is investigated. Based on the current study results, a recommendation is made to consider conductors and ground-wires in the analysis and design of transmission towers under the effect of tornado wind loads.
