  • In this paper, A voltage source PWM converter which achieves bidirectional power flow between a $3{\phi}$ AC supply and a DC bus voltage is described. And the paper considers both the steady state and transient response of such a device, and develops mathematical models to describe its performance under the digital control system. As a result the AC line current becomes sinusoidal and the input power factor is improved to unity.

  • We report a nickel optical MEMS switch, being able to rotate through a large angle and to accommodate multiple channels. The proposed optical switch consists of a thin nickel mirror and two torsion springs supporting the mirror. The torsion springs are designed using a finite element method (FEM) such that plastic deformation of the thin nickel is avoided during the large torsion actuation. For switching speed improvement, transient vibration of the released mirror is suppressed by optimizing the mirror design and a fast switching response of $200\;{\mu}s\;(pull-down)/300\;{\mu}s\;(pull-up)$ is demonstrated.

  • In this research project two aspects of small signal stability are studied: improvement in Hessenberg method to compute the dominant electromechanical oscillation modes and siting FACTS devices to damp the low frequency oscillation. Fourier transform of transient stability simulation results identifies the frequencies of the dominant oscillation modes accurately. Inverse transformation of the state matrix with complex shift equal to the angular speed determined by Fourier transform enhances the ability of Hessenberg method to compute the dominant modes with good selectivity and small size of Hessenberg matrix. Any specified convergence tolerance is achieved using the iterative scheme of Hessenberg method. Siting FACTS devices such as SVC, STACOM, TCSC, TCPR and UPFC has been studied using the eigen-sensitivity theory of augmented matrix. Application results of the improved Hessenberg method and eigen-sensitivity to New England 10-machine 39-bus and KEPCO systems are presented.

  • The rapid thermal response (RTR) molding is a novel process developed to raise the temperature of mold surface rapidly to the polymer melt temperature prior to the injection stage and then cool rapidly to the ejection temperature. The resulting filling process is achieved inside a hot mold cavity by prohibiting formation of frozen layer so as to enable thin wall injection molding without filing difficulty. The present work covers flow simulation of thin wall injection molding using the RTR molding process. In order to take into account the effects of thermal boundary conditions of the RTR mold, coupled analysis with transient heat transfer simulation is suggested and compared with conventional isothermal analysis. The proposed coupled simulation approach based on solid elements provides reliable thin wall flow estimation fur both the conventional molding and the RTR molding processes

  • 본 논문에서는 ESS용 양방향 소프트스위칭 DC-DC 컨버터의 과도상태개선을 위한 제어기법을 제안한다. 양방향 DC-DC 컨버터를 소프트스위칭하기 위해 DCM으로 동작시킬 경우 스위치의 턴오프시 손실이 가장 많이 발생하므로 이를 저감하기 위해 ZVS 턴오프 커패시터를 스위치에 추가한다. 하지만 정상상태와 달리 초기구동을 하거나 충 방전 모드전환의 경우에는 ZVS 턴오프 커패시터로 인해 오히려 과도상태특성이 나빠질 수 있다. 이를 개선하기 위하여 ZVS 턴오프 커패시터로 인해 발생하는 과도상태의 문제점을 분석하고 제어기법을 제안하였으며 제안하는 제어기법의 타당성을 시뮬레이션을 통해 검증하였다.

  • The vibration control of bridge is studied considering the vibration characteristics of the Korean-type high-speed railway bridge. Fast nonlinear analysis is adopted as time integration method and the bridge and the train are modeled by FEM and sequentially moving constant forces respectively. Additional damping mechanism is indispensable to the Korean-type high-speed railway bridge because resonance vibration is excited under the maximum design speed. The optimal position and capacity of the damper is studied through the parametric studies, Transient vibration of the bridge is effectively controlled by such additional dampers which means that dampers play a role as structural damping. And also the maximum response of the bridge is reduced. Therefore it is verified that the increase of expected service life and the improvement of serviceability can be obtained through dampers.

  • Syncope is defined as a transient loss of consciousness and postural tone, characterized by rapid onset, short duration, and spontaneous recovery. Stellate ganglion block (SGB) is a nerve block method that is used for treatment of neuropathic pain in the head, neck and upper extremities, especially trigeminal neuralgia, postherpetic neuralgia and complex regional pain syndrome. SGB can modulate and stabilize the sympathetic nervous system, which prevents it from overexcitation and improves symptoms of syncope. The authors report a patient who was treated for pain and edema of both upper extremities with SGB, then showed improvement in recurrent syncope followed by chest pain and overall quality of life.

  • Data analysis methods in lock-in amplifier based DLTS systems were discussed with regards to the signal-to-noise ratio and improvement of resolution of DLTS spectrum. The DLTS system based on wideband two-phase lock-in amplifier is shown to be the most preferabe for the studies in deep levels of low concentration. A single-temperature scanning DLTS methods in lock-in amplifier based system with the improved sensitivity is proposed. The method is tested on the characterization of deep levels in n-GaAs.

  • 본 논문은 DC/DC 위상천이 풀브릿지 컨버터의 과도상태 개선을 위한 듀얼모드 제어를 제안한다. 기존의 discontinuous conduction mode (DCM)과 continuous conduction mode (CCM)을 이용하여 운용하는 위상천이 풀브릿지 컨버터는 각 모드의 상이한 전압게인의 특성을 고려하지 않아 급격한 로드 변동시 출력 전압의 언더슈트 혹은 오버슈트가 크게 발생한다. 제안하는 듀얼모드 제어는 DCM과 CCM 각 모드 별개로 제어가 적용되고 출력 전류의 변화에 대응하는 적응형 feed-forward 제어가 적용되어 컨버터의 과도상태를 개선할 수 있다. 듀얼모드의 제어 방법의 성능과 타당성을 시뮬레이션을 통해 입증한다.

Development of Transgenic Tall Fescue Plants from Mature Seed-derived Callus via Agrobacterium-mediated Transformation

  • We have achieved efficient transformation system for forage-type tall fescue plants by Agrobacterium tumefaciens. Mature seed-derived embryogenic calli were infected and co-cultivated with each of three A. tumefaciens strains, all of which harbored a standard binary vector pIG121Hm encoding the neomycin phosphotransferase II (NPTII), hygromycin phosphotransferase (HPT) and intron-containing $\beta$-glucuronidase (intron-GUS) genes in the T-DNA region. Transformation efficiency was influenced by the A. tumefaciens strain, addition of the phenolic compound acetosyringone and duration of vacuum treatment. Of the three A. tumefaciens strains tested, EHA101/pIG121Hm was found to be most effective followed by GV3101/pIG121Hm and LBA4404/pIG121Hm for transient GUS expression after 3 days co-cultivation. Inclusion of 100 $\mu$M acetosyringone in both the inoculation and co-cultivation media lead to an improvement in transient GUS expression observed in targeted calli. Vacuum treatment during infection of calli with A. tumefaciens strains increased transformation efficiency. The highest stable transformation efficiency of transgenic plants was obtained when mature seed-derived calli infected with A. tumefaciens EHA101/pIG121Hm in the presence of 100 $\mu$M acetosyringone and vacuum treatment for 30 min. Southern blot analysis indicated integration of the transgene into the genome of tall fescue. The transformation system developed in this study would be useful for Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation of tall fescue plants with genes of agronomic importance.
