Fiber optic sensor has bee widely used in the industrial applications. For the application of acoustic detection of the high voltage electric transformer Sagnac interferometer can be used. In this paper several different materials of mandrel were used in the fiber sensor array. Based on the transformer oil fiber optic sensor is more sensitive than in the air.

In recent years, environmental concerns have been raised on the use of poorly biodegradable fluids in electrical apparatus in regions where spills from leaks and equipment failure could contaminate the surroundings. For development of the environmental-friendly pole transformer using vegetable oil, we discussed the insulation construction of the transformer and the dielectric characteristics of the Nomex insulation paper in vegetable oil. Based on the experimental data, the insulation of the transformer is designed.

Power transformer insulation oil is critical to the useful life of the transformer. Although mineral base insulation oil is the most common type of transformer insulation oil in use, environmental and safety concerns has encouraged the development of biodegradable alternatives. Today, $Envirotemp^{(R)}\;FR3^{TM}$ is in commercial use and this study is aimed at ascertaining the possibility of applying the oil in Malaysia power transformers. A sample of $Envirotemp^{(R)}\;FR3^{TM}$ was tested to measure and compare the technical (including electrical, chemical and physical) properties of the oil according to Malaysian standards. The study found that the oil sample had better qualities, such as higher dielectric strength, lower dissipation factor, higher flash and fire points, higher moisture absorption capability, and less dissolved gases composition amongst others. However, it was also ascertained that further development in this area could be hindered due to Malaysia's lack of standards for biodegradable oil.

The reliability of power transmission and distribution depends up on the consistency of insulation in the high voltage power transformer. In recent times, considering the drawbacks of conventional mineral oils such as poor biodegradability and poor fire safety level, several research works are being carried out on natural ester based nanofluids. Earlier research works show that sunflower oil has similar dielectric characteristics compared with mineral oil. BIOTEMP oil which is now commercially available in the market for transformers is based on sunflower oil. Addition of nanofillers in the base oil improves the dielectric characteristics of liquid insulation. Only few results are available in the literature about the insulation characteristics of nano modified natural esters. Hence understanding the influence of addition of nanofillers in the dielectric properties of sunflower oil and collecting the database is important. Considering these facts, present work contributes to investigate the important characteristics such as partial discharge, lightning impulse, breakdown strength, tandelta, volume resistivity, viscosity and thermal characteristics of $SiO_2$ nano modified sunflower oil with different wt% concentration of nano filler material varied from 0.01wt% to 0.1wt%. From the obtained results, nano modified sunflower oil shows better performance than virgin sunflower oil and hence it may be a suitable candidate for power transformer applications.

This paper covers general recommendations for top-oil temperature rising of mineral-oil-immersed power distribution transformer rated 100kVA and less, manufactured in Korea. In order to analyze the top-oil temperature rising due to the distribution transformer loading we performed experiments for oil-immersed distribution transformer, manufactured in domestic at KERI(Korea Electrical Research Institute) from December 2000 to May 2001. The magnitude of loading were changed, and the top-oil temperatures for each time were measured. Finally, we present the overload criteria of distribution transformer for summer and winter season in domestic. respectively.

The purposes of the present study are to produce a high thermal efficient of oil-based nanofluids which can be used as ultra-high voltage transformer oil, and to investigate their thermal and physical properties under static and dynamic conditions. Three kinds of nanofluids are prepared by dispersing $Al_2O_3$ or AlN nanoparticles in transformer oil. The thermal conductivities of the nanoparticles-oil mixtures increase with temperature, particle volume concentration and thermal conductivity of solid particle itself. It was quite important to eliminate $H_2O$ as byproducts of esterification and excess oleic acid which did not form stable chemical bonds with powder surface to get high dispersion stability.

This paper describes for the diagnosis insulating oil for transformers integrity assessment. The high-capacity oil transformer has several insulators are entered for the purpose of insulation, such as insulating oil, insulating paper and press board. Irradiated with a gas component dissolved in the insulating oil can analyze the status of the transformer, and can prevent a sudden accident in advance.

The corona in oil, the surface discharge in oil, the void discharge which could be in a transformer were imitated by using three electrodes with different shapes and the frequency bands of each ultrasonic signal were measured. After emitting artificial noises toward the transformer, only ultrasonic signals were extracted by frequency filtering, from the ultrasonic signals with noises at partial discharge. As a result, it was confirmed that the ultrasonic signals due to the corona in oil, the surface discharge in oil, the void discharge could be distinguished from the noises.

Transformer mineral oil which is normally hydrocarbon based is non- biodegradable and pollutes the environment in all aspects. Though vegetable oils are eco-friendly in nature and potentially could be used in transformers as a replacement for the mineral oil, there usage is restricted because of their oxidative instability. The present work focuses on using rapeseed oil and pongamia (pongamia pinnata) oil as effective alternatives for the traditional mineral oil in power transformer. The oxidative stability of the rapeseed oil and pongamia oil is increased by using combinations of the natural and synthetic anti-oxidants as additives. The parameters like breakdown voltage, viscosity, flash point, fire point are measured for the rapeseed oil and pongamia oil with and without the additives as per IEC and ASTM standards. The results shown encouraging changes in the parameter values and ensures the use of the oils as a potential alternative insulation in power transformers.

The gas in oil analysis of transformer is the most widely used technology for diagnosis of transformer in the world. It has brought excellent results to prevention of transformer failure. The criteria for maintenance and judgement, however, is still required continuous supplement to improve the accuracy of the diagnosis on the basis of accumulated data of gas analysis and investigations in the transformer In this study, the relationship between the detection rate of the defects and the source of troubles are analyzed according to the investigation in the transformer, which was conducted by KEPCO in 2004. As a result, the validity of the criteria being used at present was examined thoroughly.
