  • We report an ultraclean, cost-effective, and easily scalable method of transferring and patterning large-area graphene using pressure sensitive adhesive films (PSAFs) at room temperature. This simple transfer is enabled by the difference in wettability and adhesion energy of graphene with respect to PSAF and a target substrate. The PSAF transferred graphene is found to be free from residues, and shows excellent charge carrier mobility as high as ${\sim}17,700cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ with less doping compared to the graphene transferred by thermal release tape (TRT) or poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as well as good uniformity over large areas. In addition, the sheet resistance of graphene transferred by recycled PSAF does not change considerably up to 4 times, which would be advantageous for more cost-effective and environmentally friendly production of large-area graphene films for practical applications.

  • The operational characteristics of a metal hydride heat pump system are strongly dependent on the amound of hydrogen gas transferred by hydriding and dehydriding reactions between the reactors under dynamic conditions. A new metal hydride heat pump combined with hydrogen compressor was constructed and the dependency of its operating conditions on such as cycle time, amount of hydrogen to be transferred between two reacting metal hydride reactors, operating temperature, and heat transmission characteristics of the reactors was investigated to find the optimum operating efficiency. These conditions were also evaluated in connection with the cooling output and hydrogen compressor connected to the system in order to enhance the total efficiency.

  • This study presents an analytical method of solving the behaviors of arc plasma in a nozzle constricting transferred-type torch and purposes to obtain the basic data for the design of a plasma torch, which can be obtained from the temperature, pressure, velocities and voltage distributions. We have to solve some conservation equations simultaneously and need to know the exact thermal gas properties in order to obtain the correct behaviors of arc plasma. It is also necessary to give the relevant physical or geometric boundary conditions. For the simplicity of analysis, we assumed that (a) the plasma flow is laminar, (b)the local thermodynamic equilibrium, i.e. LTE, prevails over the entire arc column region. The electrode sheath effects were neglected and the nozzle area was excluded from the analysis by assuming that the current flow into the nozzle is zero. We solved the momentum transfer equation including the self-magnetic pinch effect, and obtained the temperature distribution from the energy conservation equation. From this temperature, we could get arc voltage distribution. (author). refs., figs., tabs.

  • Graphene is a monolayer of carbon atoms (approximately 0.34 nm), arranged in a honeycomb network. It has been hailed as a next-generation flexible and transparent material because it has high electrical and thermal conductivities, excellent mechanical properties, as well as flexible and transparent properties. The wettability of graphene alters its adhesion or surface energy, and it is therefore an important parameter influencing its application in the fabrication of next-generation flexible and transparent electronics. Studies on the wettability of graphene are numerous and various opinions exist. However, almost all of these studies use the wet transfer method to transfer the graphene. In this study, therefore, we investigated the effect of wet and dry transfer methods on water contact angles of graphene on a substrate. The contact angles of substrates vary depending on the type of substrate. It was found that after graphene is transferred to the substrate, regardless of transfer method, the graphene/substrate contact angle increases to a value. The contact angle of graphene transferred using the dry transfer method is higher than the contact angle of graphene transferred using wet transfer methods. The wet transferred graphene is affected by the poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) residue and the polar surface of substrate. The dry transferred graphene is influenced by the conformal contact between graphene and substrate.

  • A new planar transformer type energy recovery circuit for PDP is proposed in this paper. The same current is transferred through both the primary and secondary sides during the energy recovery period. The conduction loss is reduced. Fabrication through simple manufacturing processes is possible using the PCB winding.

  • The performance of a hammer/driving systems is a major factor which affects bearing capacity and integrity of installed piles. Hammer performance can be evaluated from the results of dynamic pile testing using Pile Driving Analyzer(PDA). By comparing the rated energy with measured maximum transferred energy(EMX), the energy transfer ratio(ETR) can be calculated. This paper based on the dynamic measurements of 442 cases in 130 piling projects and evaluated ETR according to the hammer types(hydraulic and drop hammers) and pile types(steel and concrete piles).

  • Thermograms of methylene blue(MB) in $L-{\alpha}-lecithin$ vesicle and incorporated purple membrane vesicle(InPM) systems have been studied by photochemical reaction differential scanning calorimetry at $25{\sim}55^{\circ}C$. Phase transition temperatures of lecithin vesicle, purple membrane(PM), and InPM were found to be independent of illumination of light(436nm) at $39{\sim}40^{\circ}C$, but endothermic phase transition was found in InPM vesicle. In MB-InPM system, endothermic phase transition was found on unillumination of light at $40{\sim}42^{\circ}C$, but exothermic phase transition was found on steady illumination of light at $48{\sim}52^{\circ}C$. It was estimated that the light energy absorbed from MB on vesicular surface was transferred to PM, and the transferred energy was redistributed to hydrophobic site of membrane. Therefore, the exothermic phase transition was measured at high temperature because of the increased hydrophobicity of acyl chain.

  • In this paper, we designed and fabricated electromagnetic induction based scaffold type energy harvester. For energy harvesting, mechanical energy of vertical motion is transferred to rotational energy using rack gear and multiplying gear was used to maximize energy transfer. To optimize design parameters, physical structure of energy harvester was modeled using finite element method. The effect of multiplying gear ratio and frequency levels of applied mechanical energy on energy generation efficiency are analyzed by computer simulation and experimental test. Experimental results showed that maximum 25.36 W of electric power can be achieved at the frequency of 2 Hz and 1:77 of gear ratio with only 5 mm of vertical changes on scaffold structure.

  • In this paper molecular dynamics simulations have been carried out to investigate energy and momentum transfer of hydrogen ions impacted on the Ni (100) surface with $45^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$ incident angles. The initial kinetic energies of the hydrogen ion were ranged from 100 eV to 1,600 eV to study the layer-by-layer energy variation as a dependence of incident energies and angles. At low incident energies, the scattering energy transfer is dominated by the normal motion of surface layers due to thermal vibrations and multiple collision effects. For higher incident energies, the scattering energy transfer in a normal direction is greater than that in a parallel direction. In the case of penetration, the amount of transferred energies do not affect much on Ni layers at low incident energy. It was found channeling effects through Ni layers with increasing incident energies.

  • The discharge energy by electrostatic discharge of the charged human body is calculated under the assumption that the stored charge is dissipated completely. However, it is well-known that the charge is slightly remained after electrostatic discharge. Therefore, The Rompe-Weisel model of the discharge analysis, which has somewhat more of a physical justification than the conventional energy equation, is proposed. It is proposed that the electrical conductivity of the arc should be proportional to the energy density transferred to it by Ohmic dissipation. For the electrostatic discharge energy analysis, the Rompe-Weisel model was compared by quasi static analysis. As a consequence, a study on a reliable energy evaluation based on simulation models during electrostatic discharge is carried out in this paper and is adopted to estimate the explosion hazards of flammable gases.
