This paper proposes an antenna performance prediction model in the autonomous driving radar manufacturing process. Our research work is based upon a challenge dataset, Driving Radar Manufacturing Process Dataset, and a typical AutoML machine learning workflow engine, Pycaret open-source Python library. Note that the dataset contains the total 70 data-items, out of which 54 used as input features and 16 used as output features, and the dataset is properly built into resolving the multi-output regression problem. During the data regression analysis and preprocessing phase, we identified several input features having similar correlations and so detached some of those input features, which may become a serious cause of the multicollinearity problem that affect the overall model performance. In the training phase, we train each of output-feature regression models by using the AutoML approach. Next, we selected the top 5 models showing the higher performances in the AutoML result reports and applied the ensemble method so as for the selected models' performances to be improved. In performing the experimental performance evaluation of the regression prediction model, we particularly used two metrics, MAE and RMSE, and the results of which were 0.6928 and 1.2065, respectively. Additionally, we carried out a series of experiments to verify the proposed model's performance by comparing with other existing models' performances. In conclusion, we enhance accuracy for safer autonomous vehicles, reduces manufacturing costs through AutoML-Pycaret and machine learning ensembled model, and prevents the production of faulty radar systems, conserving resources. Ultimately, the proposed model holds significant promise not only for antenna performance but also for improving manufacturing quality and advancing radar systems in autonomous vehicles.

Biometrics identification using multiple modalities has attracted the attention of many researchers as it produces more robust and trustworthy results than single modality biometrics. In this paper, we present a novel multimodal recognition system that trains a deep learning network to automatically learn features after extracting multiple biometric modalities from a single data source, i.e., facial video clips. Utilizing different modalities, i.e., left ear, left profile face, frontal face, right profile face, and right ear, present in the facial video clips, we train supervised denoising auto-encoders to automatically extract robust and non-redundant features. The automatically learned features are then used to train modality specific sparse classifiers to perform the multimodal recognition. Moreover, the proposed technique has proven robust when some of the above modalities were missing during the testing. The proposed system has three main components that are responsible for detection, which consists of modality specific detectors to automatically detect images of different modalities present in facial video clips; feature selection, which uses supervised denoising sparse auto-encoders network to capture discriminative representations that are robust to the illumination and pose variations; and classification, which consists of a set of modality specific sparse representation classifiers for unimodal recognition, followed by score level fusion of the recognition results of the available modalities. Experiments conducted on the constrained facial video dataset (WVU) and the unconstrained facial video dataset (HONDA/UCSD), resulted in a 99.17% and 97.14% Rank-1 recognition rates, respectively. The multimodal recognition accuracy demonstrates the superiority and robustness of the proposed approach irrespective of the illumination, non-planar movement, and pose variations present in the video clips even in the situation of missing modalities.
Ship detection in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images is an important application in marine monitoring for the military and civilian domains. Over the past decade, object detection has achieved significant progress with the development of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and lot of labeled databases. However, due to difficulty in collecting and labeling SAR images, it is still a challenging task to solve SAR ship detection CNNs. To overcome the problem, some methods have employed conventional data augmentation techniques such as flipping, cropping, and affine transformation, but it is insufficient to achieve robust performance to handle a wide variety of types of ships. In this paper, we present a novel and effective approach for deep SAR ship detection, that exploits label-rich Electro-Optical (EO) images. The proposed method consists of two components: a data augmentation network and a ship detection network. First, we train the data augmentation network based on conditional generative adversarial network (cGAN), which aims to generate additional SAR images from EO images. Since it is trained using unpaired EO and SAR images, we impose the cycle-consistency loss to preserve the structural information while translating the characteristics of the images. After training the data augmentation network, we leverage the augmented dataset constituted with real and translated SAR images to train the ship detection network. The experimental results include qualitative evaluation of the translated SAR images and the comparison of detection performance of the networks, trained with non-augmented and augmented dataset, which demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed framework.

A flood of information has occurred with the rise of the internet and digital devices in the fourth industrial revolution era. Every millisecond, massive amounts of structured and unstructured data are generated; smartphones, wearable devices, sensors, and self-driving cars are just a few examples of devices that currently generate massive amounts of data in our daily. Machine learning has been considered an approach to support and recognize patterns in data in many areas to provide a convenient way to other sectors, including the healthcare sector, government sector, banks, military sector, and more. However, the conventional machine learning model requires the data owner to upload their information to train the model in one central location to perform the model training. This classical model has caused data owners to worry about the risks of transferring private information because traditional machine learning is required to push their data to the cloud to process the model training. Furthermore, the training of machine learning and deep learning models requires massive computing resources. Thus, many researchers have jumped to a new model known as "Federated Learning". Federated learning is emerging to train Artificial Intelligence models over distributed clients, and it provides secure privacy information to the data owner. Hence, this paper implements Federated Averaging with a Deep Neural Network to classify the handwriting image and protect the sensitive data. Moreover, we compare the centralized machine learning model with federated averaging. The result shows the centralized machine learning model outperforms federated learning in terms of accuracy, but this classical model produces another risk, like privacy concern, due to the data being stored in the data center. The MNIST dataset was used in this experiment.

Deep learning shows outstanding performance in image and video analysis, such as object classification, object detection and semantic segmentation. In this paper, it is analyzed that the performances of deep learning models can be affected by characteristics of train dataset. It is proposed as a method for selecting activation function and optimization algorithm of deep learning to classify facial expression. Classification performances are compared and analyzed by applying various algorithms of each component of deep learning model for CK+, MMI, and KDEF datasets. As results of simulation, it is shown that genetic algorithm can be an effective solution for optimizing components of deep learning model.

Unsupervised neural networks have not caught enough attention until Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) was proposed. By using both the generator and discriminator networks, GAN can extract the main characteristic of the original dataset and produce new data with similarlatent statistics. However, researchers understand fully that training GAN is not easy because of its unstable condition. The discriminator usually performs too good when helping the generator to learn statistics of the training datasets. Thus, the generated data is not compelling. Various research have focused on how to improve the stability and classification accuracy of GAN. However, few studies delve into how to improve the training efficiency and to save training time. In this paper, we propose a novel optimizer, named FAST-ADAM, which integrates the Lookahead to ADAM optimizer to train the generator of a semi-supervised generative adversarial network (SSGAN). We experiment to assess the feasibility and performance of our optimizer using Canadian Institute For Advanced Research - 10 (CIFAR-10) benchmark dataset. From the experiment results, we show that FAST-ADAM can help the generator to reach convergence faster than the original ADAM while maintaining comparable training accuracy results.

A battery management system (BMS) provides some functions for ensuring safety and reliability that includes algorithms estimating battery states. Given the changes caused by various operating conditions, the state-of-health (SOH), which represents a figure of merit of the battery's ability to store and deliver energy, becomes challenging to estimate. Machine learning methods can be applied to perform accurate SOH estimation. In this study, we propose a Long-Term Recurrent Convolutional Network (LRCN) that combines the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short-term Memory (LSTM) to extract aging characteristics and learn temporal mechanisms. The dataset collected by the battery aging experiments of NASA PCoE is used to train models. The input dataset used part of the charging profile. The accuracy of the proposed model is compared with the CNN and LSTM models using the k-fold cross-validation technique. The proposed model achieves a low RMSE of 2.21%, which shows higher accuracy than others in SOH estimation.

In this work, we empirically evaluated the efficiency of the recent EfficientNetB0 model to identify and diagnose malaria parasite infections in blood smears. The dataset used was collected and classified by relevant experts from the Lister Hill National Centre for Biomedical Communications (LHNCBC). We prepared our samples with minimal image transformations as opposed to others, as we focused more on the feature extraction capability of the EfficientNetB0 baseline model. We applied transfer learning to increase the initial feature sets and reduced the training time to train our model. We then fine-tuned it to work with our proposed layers and re-trained the entire model to learn from our prepared dataset. The highest overall accuracy attained from our evaluated results was 94.70% from fifty epochs and followed by 94.68% within just ten. Additional visualization and analysis using the Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM) algorithm visualized how effectively our fine-tuned EfficientNetB0 detected infections better than other recent state-of-the-art DCNN models. This study, therefore, concludes that when fine-tuned, the recent EfficientNetB0 will generate highly accurate deep learning solutions for the identification of malaria parasites in blood smears without the need for stringent pre-processing, optimization, or data augmentation of images.

Our modern 'information-hungry' age demands delivery of information at unprecedented fast rates. Timely delivery of noteworthy information about recent events can help people from different segments of life in number of ways. As world has become global village, the flow of news in terms of volume and speed demands involvement of machines to help humans to handle the enormous data. News are presented to public in forms of video, audio, image and text. News text available on internet is a source of knowledge for billions of internet users. Urdu language is spoken and understood by millions of people from Indian subcontinent. Availability of online Urdu news enable this branch of humanity to improve their understandings of the world and make their decisions. This paper uses available online Urdu news data to train machines to automatically categorize provided news. Various machine learning algorithms were used on news headline for training purpose and the results demonstrate that Bernoulli Naïve Bayes (Bernoulli NB) and Multinomial Naïve Bayes (Multinomial NB) algorithm outperformed other algorithms in terms of all performance parameters. The maximum level of accuracy achieved for the dataset was 94.278% by multinomial NB classifier followed by Bernoulli NB classifier with accuracy of 94.274% when Urdu stop words were removed from dataset. The results suggest that short text of headlines of news can be used as an input for text categorization process.

Ultrasonic metal welding has been widely used for joining lithium-ion battery tabs. Weld quality monitoring has been an important issue in lithium-ion battery manufacturing. This study focuses on the weld quality monitoring in ultrasonic metal welding with the longitudinal-torsional vibration mode horn developed newly. As the quality of ultrasonic welding depends on welding parameters like pressure, time, and amplitude, the suitable values of these parameters were selected for experimentation. The welds were tested via tensile testing machine and weld strengths were investigated. The dataset collected for performance test was used to train the multi-layer perceptron neural network. The three layer neural network was used for the study and the optimum number of neurons in the first and second hidden layers were selected based on performances of each models. The best models were selected for the horn and then tested to see their performances on an unseen dataset. The neural network models for the longitudinal-torsional mode horn attained test accuracy of 90%. This result implies that proposed models has potential for the weld quality monitoring.
