  • In order to build and manage an ATM network effectively under several types of control methods, it is necessary to estimate the performance of the equipments in various viewpoints, especially of ATM multiplexer. As for the method to model the input stream into the ATM multiplexer, many researches have been done to characterize it by, such as, fluid flow, MMPP(Markov Modulated Poisson Process), or MMDP (Markov Modulated Deterministic Process). We introduce an MRP(Markov Renewal Process) to model the input stream which has proper structure to represent the burst traffic with high correlation. In this paper, we build a model for aggregated heterogeneous ON-OFF sources of ATM traffic by MRP. We make discrete time MR/D/1/B queueing system, whose input process is the superposed MRP and present a performance analysis by finding CLP(Cell Loss Probability). A simulation is done to validate our algorithm.

  • In this paper the more accurate models than any other ones so far have been proposed for the performance evaluation of single-buffered banyan-type Multistage Interconnection Networks(MINs)'s under nonuniform traffic condition is obtained. Small clock cycle instead of big clock cycle is used. The accuracy of proposed models are conformed by comparing with the results from simulation.

  • Neighboring buildings which are sufficiently close to both sides of an urban street reflect sound back to the road and sound energy is increased by thses reflectors. Therefore, this study is forcussed on the prediction modeling for road traffic noise under reflective conditions. A part of a block in urban road is regared as a box. The sound energy density in the box is employed to establish prediction formulas in terms of independent variables. The variables. The validity of the proposed prediction method has been experimentally confirmed by applying it to actually measured road traffic noise data. On the whole, the agreement between measured and predicted noise levels appeared to be satisfactory.

  • An adaptive Chunk algorithm is newly devised and a collaborative streaming is designed for high quality multimedia streaming service under time varying traffic conditions. An LMS based prediction filter is used to compensate the effect of time varying background traffic of the WAN. The underflow is generated for the $20\~28\%$ of the data stored in the central server by applying the FARIMA(Fractional Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average) traffic modeling method. The proposed algorithm is tested with the MPEG-2 video files and compensates $71\~85\%$ of central stream underflow.

  • Railway companies have been faced with many changes in the railway environment. To cope immediately with the influence of environment and to improve productivity, an efficient train operation system and related core technologies must be introduced. The railway system is composed of large scale infrastructures and high-cost trains. Simulation method is one of core technologies and also efficient tool for planning and analyzing these kinds of complex system. In this research, we review basic simulation programming models and present a modeling for the elements of railway system such as rail-line infrastructure, train, time table and operational route. Additionally, some considerations on the development of multi-train traffic simulator for KyongBu-line are discussed.

  • Generally an urban freeway means a primary arterial which provides road users with a free-flow speed, except for ramp junctions during rush hours. However, most road users suffer from traffic congestion in the basic segments as well as in the ramp junctions of urban freeway during rush hours, because most road users prefer urban freeways to local roads in the urban areas. This study then intends to analyze lane traffic characteristics of urban freeway basic segments having more freight vehicles during rush hours, find the lane showing a high correlation with the segment speed between lane speeds, and finally suggest a segment-speed predictive model by the lane speed of urban freeway basic segments during rush hours.

  • Traffic simulation models have been used for assessing various transportation strategies. Through comparing results from a simulation model and real field data, researchers try to show how close the model can reproduce the real world traffic. This model verification step is one of the most essential tasks in modeling procedure. Traffic counts and speeds have been frequently used for the verification or validation. Authors modeled severe PM peak bottleneck situation on the I-40 corridor in Raleigh, North Carolina using DYNASMART-P, a mesoscopic traffic simulation tool and verified the model. NCDOT has Traffic Information Management System which has archive capability for the traffic speeds on the I-40 corridor. However, the authors selected travel time as the field measure for model verification and collected the data using a GPS equipment because the speed data from NCDOT speed detectors are spot speeds which are not appropriate for comparison with link average speed from the simulation model. This paper describes the GPS field data collection procedure, the model verification method, and the results.

  • It is important to clarify the relationship between traffic accidents and various influencing factors in order to reduce the number of traffic accidents. This study developed a traffic accident frequency prediction model using by multi-linear regression and qualification theories which are commonly applied in the field of traffic safety to verify the influences of various factors into the traffic accident frequency The data were collected on the Korean National Highway 17 which shows the highest accident frequencies and fatality rates in Chonbuk province. In order to minimize the uncertainty of the data, the fuzzy theory and neural network theory were applied. The neural network theory can provide fair learning performance by modeling the human neural system mathematically. Tn conclusion, this study focused on the practicability of the fuzzy reasoning theory and the neural network theory for traffic safety analysis.

  • This study is to define new road capacity concept, and to develop and propose an estimation method, through the analysis of individual vehicular behaviors in continuum flow. Developments in detection technology enable various and precise traffic data collection. The U.S. HCM (Highway Capacity Manual) method does not require such various and precise traffic data, and outputs only limited results. Alternative capacity concepts, which can be classified into a stochastic model and behavioral or deterministic model, are attempts for modeling some prominent traffic flow features, namely so-called a capacity drop and a traffic hysteresis, using such various and precise traffic data. Yet, no capacity concept up-to-date can describe both features. The analysis of individual vehicular behaviors, including speed-density plot per time lap, traffic flow-speed-density diagram per each sampling interval, time headway distribution, and free flow speed distribution, is performed for overcoming the limits of the previous capacity concepts. A stochastic methods are applied to determine time headway for estimating freeway capacity for traffic control.
