This paper was inspired by the fact that Real-time Traffic Information Service could play a key role in reducing incomplete combustion time remarkably since it can provide traffic jam information in real-time basis. Emission characteristics of experimental engines were studied with variable travel distances and speed of car in terms of traffic information provided. 12 Km distance road of Susung district in Daegu is taken as an experimental area to examine this new approach. The emission was tested while the driving was done at 8 AM, 3 PM, 6 PM which represents various traffic conditions. The reduced emission has been measured for a travel distance running at different loads (conventional shortest route and Real-time Traffic Information) and various loads (CO, VOC and NOx) are all inventoried and calculated in terms of existing emission factors. The emission has been shown to reduce linearly with travel distance : carbon monoxide (20.56%), VOC (29.21%), NOx(8.86%).
Traffic represents one of the largest sources of primary air pollutants in urban area. As a consequence, numerous abatement strategies are being pursued to decrease the ambient concentration of pollutants. A characteristics of most of the these strategies is a requirement for accurate data on both the quantity and spatial distribution of emissions to air in the form of an atmospheric emission inventory database. In the case of traffic pollution, such an inventory must be compiled using activity statistics and emission factors for vehicle types. The majority of inventories are compiled using passive data from either surveys or transportation models and by their very nature tend to be out-of-date by the time they are compiled. The study of current trends is towards integrating urban traffic control systems and assessments of the environmental effects of motor vehicles. In this study, a model of vehicle emission calculation by using real-time traffic data was studied. Traffic data, which are required on a street-by-street basis, is obtained from induction loops of traffic control system. It is possible that characteristics of hourly air pollutants emission rates is obtained from hourly traffic volume and speed. An emission rates model is allocated with a high resolution space by using geographic information system (GIS). Vehicle emission model was developed with a high resolution spatial, gridded and hourly emission rates.

Greenhouse gas emissions have been an important issue in different countries because of their effects on global warming. The government has to organize greenhouse gas reduction measures suitable to regional characteristics by establishing annual implementation plans and comprehensive policies based on the UNFCCC. The transportation sector is one of the major contributors of air pollution; hence increasing need to estimate current and future traffic emissions precisely. Under these circumstances, a number of emission models have been developed recently. However, current methods of estimation cannot carry out effective analyses because it does not reflect vehicle movement characteristics. This study aims to present a new method for calculating road traffic emissions in Goyang city. A travel demand model is utilized to carry out GHG emission estimates according the traffic data (fleet composition, vehicle kilometers travelled, traffic intensity, road type, emission factors and speed). This study evaluates two approaches to estimate the road traffic emissions in Goyang City: Pollution-Emis and the Handbook of Emission Factors for Road Transport (HBEFA v.3.1) which is representative of the "average speed" and the "traffic situation" model types. The evaluation of results shows that the proposed emission estimation method may be a good practice if vigilant implementation of model inputs is observed.

This study was intended to reliably predict the traffic green house gas emission in Daegu with the use of spatial statistical technique and calculate the traffic green house gas emission of each administrative district on the basis of the accurately predicted emission. First, with the use of the traffic actually surveyed at a traffic observation point, and traffic green house gas emission was calculated. Secondly, on the basis of the calculation, and with the use of Universal Kriging technique, this researcher set a suitable variogram modeling to accurately and reliably predict the green house gas emission at non-observation point suitable through spatial correlation, and then performed cross validation to prove the validity of the proper variogram modeling and Kriging technique. Thirdly, with the use of the validated kriging technique, traffic green gas emission was visualized, and its distribution features were analyzed to predict and calculate the traffic green house gas emission of each administrative district. As a result, regarding the traffic green house gas emission of each administration, it was found that Bukgu had the highest green house gas emission of $291,878,020kgCO_2eq/yr$.

Real-time Traffic Information Service could play a key role in reducing incomplete combustion time remarkably since it can provide traffic information in real-time basis. Emission characteristics of test engines were studied in terms of travel distance and speed. The present study focused on a north district in Daegu, 12 km. The driving for the emission test was done at 8AM, 3PM, 7PM which represents various traffic conditions. The reduced emissions of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) have been measured for a travel distance running at different loads (conventional shortest route and Real-time Traffic Information) and GHG ($CO_2$, $CH_4$, $N_2O$) are all inventoried and calculated in terms of existing emission factors. The emission of GHG has been shown to reduce linearly with travel distance: $CO_2$ (9.15%), $CH_4$ (18.43%), $N_2O$(18.62%).

This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between the traffic signal systmes and the air pollutants emitted by the motor vehicles at Kangnam Intersection. One of the most important measures of effectiveness (MOE) in traffic studies is the delay to vehicles in the system. Delay represents indirect costs to the motorist in terms of time loss and a direct cost in terms of fuel consumption during idling. The results of TRANSYT-7F modeling was correlated among delay, fuel consumption and total travel tiem. Air pollutants emission rate can be calculated by the results of modeling and the Korean type emission factor. As expected the highest emissions, for air pollutants, are observed during the morning rush hours (07 : 00-10 : 00). For better results of modeling, the TRANSYT-7F model needs to modify for the Korean type of traffic model. The results of this study indicate that the variation of air pollutants emission rates were closely related to the traffic signal system.
While air pollutants emission caused by the traffic is one of the major sources, few researches have done. This study investigated the extent to which traffic and road related characteristics such as traffic volumes, speeds and road weather data including wind speed, temperature and humidity, as well as the road geometry affect the air pollutant emission. We collected the real time air pollutant emission data from Seoul automatic stations and real time traffic volume counts as well as the road geometry. The regression air pollutant emission models were estimated. The results show followings. First, the more traffic volume increase, the more pollutant emission increase. The more vehicle speed increase, the more measurement quantity of pollutant decrease. Secondly, as the wind speed, temperature, and humidity increase, the amount of air pollutant is likely to decrease. Thirdly, the figure of intersections affects air pollutant emission. To verify the estimated models, we compared the estimates of the air pollutant emission with the real emission data. The result show the estimated results of Chunggae 4 station has the most reliable data compared with the others. This study is differentiated in the way the model used the real time air pollutant emission data and real time traffic data as well as the road geometry to explain the effects of the traffic and road characteristics on air quality.
The impact of a considerable increase in traffic volume on the emission and concentrations of air pollutants was investigated at three beaches (Haeundae (HB), Gwanganri (GB), and Songjeong (SB)) in Busan during beach opening period (BOP) in 2011. During the BOP, passenger car was the major vehicle type, followed by taxi, and van. CO was the major contributor of total air pollutant emissions followed by NOx, VOC, and $PM_{10}$. For the temporal variation of the emission of air pollutants during the BOP, it was generally the highest in the afternoon followed by the evening and morning, except for SB. For the spatial variation of their emission, it was the highest at GB followed by SB and HB. The emissions of air pollutants during the BOP were generally higher than those during the Non-BOP, except for HB. In contrast, the significant impact of the traffic volume increase on the concentrations of air pollutants at monitoring sites near the three beaches during the BOP were not found compared to the Non-BOP due to the significant distances between monitoring sites of air pollutants and monitoring sites of traffic volume at the beaches.

The objective of this study was to compare greenhouse gas emissions from road transportation by calculation methods (Tier 1, Teir 2, and Tier 3). Tier 1 based on 2006 IPCC guidelines default emission factor and amount of fuel consumption. The Tier 2 approach is the same as Tier 1 except that country-specific carbon contents of the fuel sold in road transport are used. Tier 2 based on emission factor of guidelines for local government greenhouse gas inventories (Korea Environment Corporation), the fuel consumption per one vehicle, and the registered motor vehicles. The Tier 3 approach requires detailed, country-specific data to generate activity-based emission factors for vehicle subcategories (National Institute of Environmental Research) and may involve national models. Tier 3 calculates emissions by multiplying emission factors by vehicle activity levels (e.g., VKT) for each vehicle subcategory and possible road type. VKT was estimated by using GIS road map and traffic volume of the section. The GHG average emission rate by the Tier 1 was 728,857 $tonCO_2eq$/yr, while Tier 2 and Tier 3 were 864,757 $tonCO_2eq$/yr and 661,710 $tonCO_2eq$/yr, respectively. Tier 3 was underestimated by 10.1 and 20.7 percent for the GHG emission observed by Tier 1 and Tier 2, respectively. Based on this study, we conclude that Tier 2 is reasonable GHG emissions than Tier 1 or Tier 3. But, further study is still needed to accurate GHG emission from Tier 3 method by expanding the traffic survey area and developing the model of local road traffic.

The "Low Emission Zone" (LEZ) system restricts entry of vehicles with high air pollutants into city centers. Implementation of the system improves air environment around the world. Since 2012, operating restrictions have been applied to all of Seoul's metropolitan areas and some other metropolitan areas in the state. Beginning in December 2019, entry of 5th class vehicles to the central green transport zone of Seoul has been restricted. In this study we examine the status of operational restrictions in this zone, and predict the amount of traffic reduction expected when numbers of target vehicles are expanded in the future, we use data for each vehicle's emission grade: by region and 'Origin-Destination Traffic Volume'. After estimating the amount of traffic entering Seoul's 25 autonomous districts, by emission class, we propose a target region that may have a significant effect if target areas for automobile operation restrictions expand in the future.
