한의학 교육을 위한 필수한자 추출 및 분석연구 (Study on the prerequisite Chinese characters for the education of traditional Korean medicine)

  • There has been a need for an operational curriculum for teaching Chinese characters used by traditional Korean medicine (TKM), but the it was not thoroughly reviewed so far. We analysed the frequency of unicode Chinese characters with five textbooks of traditional Korean medicine used as a national standard. We found that 氣, 經, 陽, 陰, 不, 熱, 血, 脈, 病, 證, 寒, 中, 心, 痛, 虛, 大, 生, 治, 本, 之 are the 20 most frequently used Chinese characters, and also showed 100 frequently used characters for each textbook. We used a cumulative frequency analysis method to suggest a list of 1,000 prerequisite Chinese characters for the TKM education (TKM 1000). which represents the current usage of Chinese characters in TKM and covers 99% of all textbook use if combined with MEST 1800. This study showed prerequisite and essential Chinese characters for the implementation of evidence-based teaching in TKM. The TKM 1000, a prerequisite characters by this study based on the TKM textbooks can be used for the development of Korean Medicine Education Eligibility Test (KEET), entrance exam to the Colleges of Oriental Medicine or textbooks, and educational curriculum for premed students.

Students' Self-Regulated Learning Strategies in Traditional and Non-Traditional Classroom: A Comparative Study

  • This study used a posttest control group design and to find out differences between students' self-regulated learning strategies in traditional and non-traditional classroom. To this end, 131 first year university students within the experimental and control groups took part in the study. While ICT-based approach was used as the main medium of instruction in the experimental group, in the control group the paper-based traditional method was used. A survey adapted from Davaanyam [Davaanyam, T. (2013). The structural relationships among Mongolian students' attitudes toward mathematics, motivational beliefs, self-regulated learning strategies, and mathematics achievement. Ph. D. Dissertation. Jeonju, Jeonbuk, Korea: Chonbuk National Unversity.] was used to gather the data. The results of the study indicated a significant difference between the control and experimental groups in regard with their self-regulated learning. That is to say, the experimental group taught through ICT tools acquired higher levels of self-regulation as compared with the control group instructed through the traditional teaching method.

Effectiveness of Asynchronous Learning Networks in Teaching as a Supplement to Classroom Teaching: A Study from Perspective of Lecturers in National University of Singapore

  • Asynchronous Learning Networks (ALN) has become a kind of prevalent information systems to supplement or even substitute a traditional classroom face-to-face teaching method. In this paper, we investigate the impacts of types of courses, lecturers' instruction models and computer self-efficacy on the ALN effectiveness in teaching from lecturers' perspective. We conducted survey to professors in various faculties such as School of Computing, Faculty of Arts, Science, Business, Law and Engineering in the National University of Singapore. According to the responses from ninety-eight professors, instruction modes positively influence the usage of ALN; types of course and lecturers' computer-efficacy influence lectures' satisfaction of ALN in teaching. Both the usage of ALN and satisfaction of ALN positively influence the effectiveness of ALN. The results of this study fill the gap of ALN researches in education by examining it from lecturers' perspective and enable schools to improve their implementation of ALN systems based on our findings.

Freudenthal의 재발명 방법에 기초한 제7차 초등수학교과서 확률 단원 재구성 (A Reconstruction of Probability Unit of Elementary Mathematics Textbook Based on Freudenthal's Reinvention Method)

  • Freudenthal은 수학적 개념을 가장 수학답게 가르치는 것, 그럼으로써 창의성을 기를 수 있게 하는 것은 어떤 수학적 개념이나 원리의 역사적인 수학화 과정을 재현하는 것이 되며, 이러한 역사적인 수학화를 교실에서 재현하는 방법을 '재발명 방법(reinvention method)'이라고 하였다. 이에 본 연구에서는 재발명 방법에 관한 이론들을 종합 분석하여, 효과적인 확률 개념 지도를 위해 제7차 초등 수학 교과서를 재구성해보고, 재구성한 내용을 직접 교수 실험함으로써 그 효과를 검증하고자 한다. 실험에 앞서 문헌 연구를 통해 재발명 방법에 대한 선행 연구를 종합 분석하면서 그와 대비되는 구상화 방법까지 고찰하였다. 현행 제7차 초등 수학 교과서를 면밀히 분석한 결과 현재 수학교과서의 확률 단원은 형식화를 강조하고 있고, 다루고 있는 확률 개념이 한정되어 있으며, 확률을 표현하는 방법 또한 분수로 제한하고 있음을 확인하였다. 이에 다양성과 현실 맥락을 주요 방향으로 하여 확률 단원 전체를 재구성하여 실험반에 적용하였다. 수업 결과 재발명 방법을 통해 학습을 진행하는 것이 학습자의 확률 개념을 형성하는 데 효과적이었으며, 다양한 표현 양식은 학습자의 확률에 대한 이해도를 높일 수 있는 것으로 나타났다.

간호교육에서 영화의 활용에 관한 고찰: Cinemeducation (Review of Literature and Implication for Nursing Education: Cinemeducation)

  • Purpose: Recently teaching nursing to undergraduate students has been based on the constructive teaching method to achieve the core nursing competency. Therefore, non-traditional teaching methods should be introduced for a stimulated interaction between the lecturer and students and to increase information retention and interest in nursing. The purpose of this paper was to review current issues related to the use of cinema in nursing education. Method: A literature review was conducted to grasp the definition of cinemeducation and to identify the uses, merits, and demerits of using cinema in nursing education. Conclusion: Cinemeducation is an innovative approach to teaching multi-cultural diversity in medicine and nursing. It is possible to conduct cinemeducation to deepen student's understanding of cross-cultural issues and to evoke imagination, empathy, and narrative. Movies are funny, entertaining, and readily enjoyed by learners. Since individuals portrayed in movies are not real, learners can be more honest and objective about their reactions to these characters. In addition, movies as instructional media are economical. I would like to suggest more curriculum development for the use of movies.

영어교육에서의 전통적 가치관과 미국문화 (Traditional American values and American culture in English education)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate American traditional values and American culture in English education. The understanding of American culture in English education requires the analysis of world changes in the global age. The history of American English, the formation of American society, and the background of natural environment are described in relation to the traditional American values of the earliest settlers, such as multi-culture, individual freedom, frontier heritage in the West, equality of opportunity and wealth and material abundance. Hence the case studies of students' project presentations on the American culture in English education exemplify the reflection of American traditional values in the current American life and society. It is concluded that project-based method with regard to cultural studies in English education reveals very positive learning effects by driving students' interests and active participation through the student-centered, creative, and cooperative project presentations.

  • Teaching and learning are one of the major issues during this pandemic (COVID-19). Since the pandemic started, there are many changes in teaching and learning styles as everything related to studies started online. Game-Based Learning has got remarkable importance in the educational system and pedagogy as an effective way of increasing student inspiration and engagement. In this field, most of the work has been carried out in digital games. This research uses an Animated Game-Based Learning design in enhancing student engagement and perception of learning. In teaching Computer Science (CS) concepts in higher education, to enhance the pedagogy activities in CS concepts, more specifically the concepts of "Data Structures (DS)" i.e., Array, Stack, and Queue concepts are focused. This study aims to observe the difference in students' learning with the use of different learning methods i.e., the traditional learning (TL) method and the Animated Game-Based Learning (AGBL) Method. The experimental results show that learning DS concepts has been improved by the AGBL method as compared to the TL method.

과학교과서와 그에 관련된 교수 학습자료의 활용 실태 조사 (On Science Textbooks and Related Teaching Learning Materials)

  • The purpose of the study was to establish a new view of textbook which may contribute to the abolishment of the instruction mainly based on the only textbook and to the promotion of creativities of students. We first reviewed science textbooks and related teaching-learning materials of foreign countries with emphasis on the relationship among textbook and teaching-learning materials and practical use of them. In western countries the roles of traditional textbook has been changed. That is, various kinds of materials such as reading book, work-book, worksheet, experimental guidebook, filmstrips are used to raise effect of instruction besides of traditional type of textbook. Secondary, we identified the problems related to the science textbook-view of textbook, textbook contents, practical use of textbook-through opinion survey administered to principals akd teachers of elementary schools. The results of the survey are as follows; Concerning the view of textbook, most teachers did not recognize textbook as an absolute materials. They thought that textbook contents could be taught reorganized according to their judgements. On the contrary, teachers responded to the question of whether or not they follow contents of textbook as they are presented in it were approximately 30%. Further, more than 75% of them have seldom used instructional materials except textbooks. In order to revise the problems of our present textbook as stated above, a new view of textbook should be established. We, above all, established 4 basic premises for searching a new view of textbook. 1) Textbook should not be considered as the only material but as being at the center of various teaching -learning materials. 2) The importance of textbook should be illustrated Among Curriculum, textbook and related teaching-learning materials, instruction and evaluation. 3. Textbook contents should not be regarded as definitely fixed or absolute ones. 4. Human being can understand environment more fully by commanding his swnsory organ multilaterally. Under these premises we disscussed about curriculum and textbook, textbook, and instruction, akd evaluation method.

대학 교양 컴퓨터 수업에서 동료교수법이 학업 성취도와 학습만족도에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Peer Tutoring on Students' Achievement and Learning Satisfaction in Liberal Computer Class in Univ.)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of peer tutoring on students' achievement and learning satisfaction in a liberal computer class at university level. Traditional teaching method was applied for the control group consisting 55 students for 8 weeks. The experimental group containing 44 students was instructed using both traditional teaching method and peer tutoring. According to the results of diagnosed test, the experimental group was divided into heterogeneous ability group of 3 or 4. The tutor training was provided a week in advance of the class and the students played a role of a tutor and tutee by taking turns. The results showed no significant differences between the two groups on academic achievement; however, in terms of students' learning satisfaction, it displayed a wider range of results. The learning satisfaction data from the experimental group showed a much higher level than that of the control group. It is predicted that the amount of class hours of a week, the quality of the lecture and the application of peer tutoring affect the students' academic achievement. It is suggested that subsequent research on peer tutoring will allow for more in-depth study in this field.
