  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Cuscuta chinensis Lamark ethanol extract (CL) on wrinkle improvement. Cuscuta chinensis Lamark is known to contain dried saccharide, alkaloids, flavonoids, lignans and rein glycoside as major components of dried mature seeds of Cuscuta japonica Choisy. In this study, we evaluated the anti-wrinkle effects of CL and investigated bio-markers (e.g ; MMP-1, MMP-3, MMP-9, TIMP-1, type I procollagen) associated with skin wrinkle improvement. We tested the anti-wrinkle effect of CL using human fibroblast called CCD-986Sk cell. We observed an increase in MMPs, TIMP-1, and type 1 pro-collagen CL in CCD-986Sk cells irradiated with UVB at an intensity of $2mJ/cm^2$ for 60 seconds. As a result, CL decreased UVB-induced MMPs levels and mRNA expressions in CCD-986Sk cell. The levels and mRNA expressions of type I procollagen and TIMP-1 were increased by CL. These results suggest that CL has activities on improvement of skin wrinkle, which is induced by UVB radiation. Taken together, this study proposed the possibility of developing herbal medicine and functional herbal cosmetic materials with wrinkle-improving effects of Cuscuta chinensis Lamark.

  • Zingiberis rhizoma(ZB) has been used to treat a various condition and disease in many traditional preparation. The present study was conducted to investigate the immunomodulatory effect on cyclophosphamide(CY)-induced immunotoxicity of aqueous-extracted ZB(ZBE) using in vitro and in vivo experiment. In vitro experiment, the mouse spleen cells proliferation and nitric oxide(NO) production in RAW 264.7 mouse macrophage cells were investigated. ZBE enhanced mitogenic activity in mouse spleen cells. The suppression of CY-induced mouse speen cell proliferation was significantly restored by ZBE treatment. ZBE inhibited NO production, iNOS mRNA and protein levels in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. In vivo experiment, ZBE was orally administrated(single dose of 150mg/kg for 12 days) and CY i.p(150mg/kg) injected to SD rats. In CY alone injected group, body weights and spleen weights, and a various hematological parameters were reduced when compared with control group, whereas those values were increased by concomitant treatment of CY and ZBE when compared with CY alone injected group. These results indicated that ZBE can modulate CY-induced immune suppression through immune cell proliferation, the regulation of NO production and the inhibition of CY-induced immunotoxicity.

  • The GC pictures were taken to investigate the difference of the Samul-tang and Sakunja-tang, each prepared by the different boiling methods, which were the traditional method(using cover), using the condenser, and using no cover. For Samul-tang, there was not much difference in the GC pictures, but the one pick(rt about 7 min.) of the picture by the method using the condenser had the higher intensity than those in the pictures by other methods. For Sakunja-tang, the GC pictures of the method using the condenser had shown a lot of the peaks and the very high intensity, which were much better than those of the picture by the traditional method. However, the GC pictures of the method by using no cover had shown almost nothing.

  • Nae-Kyung says the puberty is corresponded to the age of 16~24(male) and 14~21 (female). And that time they are promoted the growth. However, Kidney qi doesn't make average situation during that time. So, the function of five viscera and six entrails fails to be perfect and symptoms appear. I came to the conclusion through the survey of about 200 high school students(male and female) and the theory of oriental medicine the distinctive features (like migraine, amnesia, depression, dysphoria, inappetence, irregular menstruation) came out that time. I defined this distinctive symptoms in boys and girls at puberty ‘synthetic symptoms of puberty’. For the medical cure and prevention I prescribed ‘Sachun-Nyung’ and that has medical benefits for ‘Replenishing qi and relieving the spleen, Soothing the liver and promoting blood circulation’

  • Before the current western medicine was spreaded out in the world as the main stream, each country had treated diseases with the medicine of their own and the traditional medical books, which are so characteristic, are handed down. Considering the earnest assignment to do in Korean medical of this age and one of the tendencies of medical circles in the world is putting together the current medicine with the traditional medicine, the production and spread of the classification system for the technical books which is contained the characteristic of traditional chinese medicine, the present condition of modern chinese medicine, and the future of it, must be settled without delay. The classification system for oriental medicine section developed in the range of the simple system before the time of flowering, since then the western medicine had grew as the main current in medicine in Korea. But until now the rational and realistic classification system based on the changeable time isn't be established, so setting up one of the classification systems for medicine section, it is classified according to the principle of classification system for medicine section. Hereupon, the result was made after researching the changes of modern classification system for korean and studying on the changes of classification system for oriental medicine section of the Korean decimal classification.

  • Acquired pigmentary skin diseases such as abnormal melanogenesis, vitiligo, chloasma and inflammatory pigmentation are related to regulate the melanin production, In this study, an ethanol extract of Hovenia dulcis Thunb.(EHD) makedly inhibited melanin biosynthesis and suppressed, the protein expression of tyrosinase, tyrosinase-related protein 1(TRP-1), and tyrosinase-related protein 2(TRP-2) in B16F10 cells. On the other hand, EHD did not inhibit mushroom tyrosinase activity. These results indicate that EHD may contribute to the inhibition of melanin biosynthesis through regulating tyrosinase activity and expression, and serve as a new candidate in the design of new skin-whitening or therapeutic agents.
