  • Phosphorus removal during discharge of wastewater is required to achieve in a very high level because eutrophication occurs even at a very low phosphorus concentration. However, there are limitations in the traditional technologies in the removal of phosphorus at very low concentration, such as at a level lower than 0.1 mg/L. Through a series of experiments, a possible technology which can remove phosphate to a very low level in the final effluent of wastewater was suggested. At first Al, Zn, Ca, Fe, and Mg were exposed to phosphate solution by impregnating them on the surface of activated alumina to select the material which has the highest affinity to phosphate. Kinetic tests and isotherm tests on phosphate solution have been performed on four media, which are Ca-impregnated activated alumina, activated alumina, Ca-impregnated loess ball, and loess ball. Results showed that Ca-impregnated activated alumina has the highest capacity to adsorb phosphate in water. Scanning electron microscope image analysis showed that activated alumina has high void volume, which provides a large surface area for phosphate to be adsorbed. Through a continuous column test of the Ca-impregnated activated alumina it was discovered that about 4,000 bed volumes of wastewater with about 0.2 mg/L of phosphate can be treated down to lower than 0.14 mg/L of concentration.

  • In this paper, a new matrix vector formulation for a wavelet-based subband decomposition is introduced. This formulation provides a means to compute a regular multi-resolution analysis over many levels of decomposition. With this approach. any single channel linear space-invariant filtering problem can be cast into a multi-channel framework. This decomposition Is applied to the linear space-invariant image restoration problem and propose a frequency-adaptive constrained least squares(CLS) filter. In the proposed filter, we use different parameters adaptively according to subband characteristics. Experimental results are presented for the proposed frequency-adaptive CLS filter These experiments show that if accurate estimates of the subband characteristics are available, the proposed frequency adaptive CLS filter provides significant improvements over the traditional single channel filter.

  • While the development of the Internet has made information more accessible, this also has provided a variety of intrusion paths for malicious programs. Traditional Signature-based malware-detectors cannot identify new malware. Although Dynamic Analysis may analyze new malware that the Signature cannot do, it still is inefficient for detecting variants while most of the behaviors are similar. In this paper, we propose a detection method using behavioral similarity with existing malicious codes, assuming that they have parallel patterns. The proposed method is to extract the behavior targets common to variants and detect programs that have similar targets. Here, we verified behavioral similarities between variants through the conducted experiments with 1,000 malicious codes.

  • Recently recommendation methods need personalization and diversity as well as accuracy whereas the traditional researches have been mainly focused on the accuracy of recommendation in terms of quality. The diversity of recommendation is also important to people in terms of quantity in addition to quality since people's desire for content consumption have been stronger rapidly than past. In this paper, we pay attention to similarity of data gathered simultaneously among different types of contents. With this motivation, we propose an enhanced recommendation method using correlation analysis with considering data similarity between two types of contents which are movie and music. Specifically, we regard folksonomy tags for music as correlated data of genres for movie even though they are different attributes depend on their contents. That is, we make result of new recommendation movie items through mapping music folksonomy tags to movie genres in addition to the recommendation items from the typical collaborative filtering. We evaluate effectiveness of our method by experiments with real data set. As the result of experimentation, we found that the diversity of recommendation could be extended by considering data similarity between music contents and movie contents.

  • This paper presents an improved operating characteristics of squirrel-cage induction motor(IM) for 5-phase 1.5kW, 220V, 60Hz in order to study a polyphase AC machinery that keep hold of advantages more than traditional three-phase a IM, such as reducing a amplitude of torque pulsation, decreasing electric noises, and increasing the reliability. The developed manufacturing motor was necessary to do improvement of speed regulation, efficiency, operating characteristics, and so on at rated load. There are remake a redesigned and distributed stator winding connection without changing the frames of stator and rotor core in previous established the motor by a repeat tests. There are shown a experiments results of no-load test, locked rotor test, operating characteristics at variable load, FFT analysis of harmonics within output voltages and current waveform, decided motor parameters.

  • The most commonly used techniques for image magnification are interpolation based. However, the magnified images produced by this technique often appear blocking and blurring phenomenon when the image is enlarged. In this paper, we enhanced image magnification algorithm using edge information. The proposed algorithm not used interpolation based but by using sub-band of input image in extrapolation. According to mapping relationship in pyramid, we calculated up-band information to magnify. In experiments, the proposed model shows solved the problem of image loss like the blocking and blurring phenomenon. As the result, it is faster and higher resolution than traditional magnification algorithms.

  • Tongue is one of the most important parts in patient diagnosis in traditional Korean(Chinese) medicine. This paper presents health monitoring method using tongue images of a person. The method uses not absolute tongue features but relative ones which are differences from reference health condition(RHC), diagnosed in hospital, for a person. A user can give tongue images to a health monitoring system everyday, which extracts regions of interest (ROI's) of the tongue, and compares their features with reference health condition. In the experiments, tongue image analysis for a person by our computerized method encouraged us that the method using tongue images can be contributed for health monitoring.

  • In this paper, the two-stage DC-DC converter is proposed to make the control simple and to boost the low input voltage in the fuel cell generating system. The low efficiency of the conventional power converter is caused by a characteristic of the low-voltage and high-current in the fuel cell generating system. High-frequency transformer is needed to block the noise and to guarantee the safety of cell and load as a magnetically insulation. The proposed two-stage DC-DC converter for a fuel cell generation is more efficient than the traditional one-stage converter and easy to control. The design of a high-frequency transformer is also simple. Finally, the utility of the proposed converter is proved by the simulations and experiments.

  • To enable a master-slave control independent microgrid system (MSCIMGS) to supply electricity continuously, the microgrid inverter should perform mode transfer between grid-connected and islanding operations. Transient oscillations should be reduced during transfer to effectively conduct a seamless mode transfer. This study uses a typical MSCIMGS as an example and improves the mode transfer strategy in three aspects: (1) adopts a status-tracking algorithm to improve the switching strategy of the outer loop, (2) uses the voltage magnitude and phase pre-synchronization algorithm to reduce transient shock at the time of grid connection, and (3) applies the hybrid-sensitivity $H_{\infty}$ robust controller instead of the current inner loop to improve the robustness of the controller. Simulations and experiments show that the proposed strategy is more practical than the traditional proportional-derivative control mode transfer and effective in reducing voltage and current oscillations during the transfer period.

  • We studied the partial discharge detecting by sensing electromagnetic pulse emitted from the partial discharge source in the stator winding of HV Rotating Machine with UWB sensor. In this study, we designed new type of compact low frequency UWB sensor based on micro-strip technology and made experiments of offline dismantled testing compare with the traditional HFCT as a reference sensor in the laboratory. We investigated internal discharge, surface discharge, corona discharge and non-defected state normal stator on pre-made stator winding by using UWB patch sensor.
