  • In this paper, we introduce the software and hardware of the measuring system for performances of traction and braking in KTX(Korea Train eXpress). The measuring system focuses on the verification of the performance and acquisition of test data. The software controls the hardware of the measuring system, performs the analysis and calculation of measurement data and acts as interface between users and the hardware. For this purpose, three programs, such as a measuring program, a back-up program and a post-processing program, have developed.

  • Liquid crystals have some tribologically favorable lameliar structure. The Performance of ther mottopic liquid crystal was investigated under elastohydrodynamic condition in terms of traction and film thickness. It exhibited low traction and very thin film thickness, which were almost constant over the entire speed range measured. It was also found to have sealing effect like grease. This work has shown that there exists "potential" for using liquid crystals as lubricants.

  • In this paper, the IGBT VVVF inverter for 1C4M propulsion system of railway traction is studied. The inverter is consisted of IGBT stacks, a DB unit, and a control unit. The test results of the combined system is given, which shows an excellent performance of the overall system.

  • This paper proposes an experimental study on the traction system of rubber tired AGT (Automated Guideway Transit). IGBT VVVF inverter is developed for 1C2M propulsion system of AGT, and it consists of inverter stack, gate control unit, control unit, and interface unit. The combination test was carried out to prove the performance of inverter, and test results show that the developed inverter is excellent.

  • The main objective of the present study is to analyze the feasibility of fuel cell powered vehicle, which leads to carry out system design and performance analysis. The major design concepts which include battery, driving motor, and fuel cell module are analyzed and discussed for the future development. The traction power of fuel cell vehicle is calculated according to the driving courses specified. Further, the fuel cell stack is analyzed to determine the capacity of stack as a function of velocity for the appropriate power required.

  • Linear motor has been developed for linear motion of machine tools. Linear motor is useful to design the linear motion, high speed and high accuracy, because of the simple system not required the additional mechanical part such as coupling and ballscrew.   • This paper shows an improvement of the WRSM (Wound Rotor Synchronous Motor) by satisfying the voltage limit condition at high speed. After that, it compares the performance of the improved WRSM to that of the IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor). The comparison has been made under the condition where the dimension of the motor is identical to that of the IPMSM, having the rotor switched to a wounded rotor form. Moreover, this paper compares the Basic Model of the two motor, and estimates the parameters of the WRSM, thereby proposing the method to improve high speed performance. Furthermore, this paper presents the feasibility of switching the conventional motor into rare-earth-free motors for traction purpose.

  • In this paper, the design characteristics, the manufacturing process and the results of performance test on the AC traction motor for urban transit standard E.M.U which is newly developed with applying standardization specification will be introduced. It is reviewed that the design and performance analysis on conventional motors considering system correlation and design constraint and the design optimization through an analysis of electro-magnetic, thermal and dynamic properties. The properties of factory products manufactured by 200 Class VPI process exhibit a excellent performance with a lower noise and vibration, higher efficiency and power factor etc.

  • This paper describes a re-adhesion control method for the Korean High-Speed Train (KHST) with parallel induction motor drive. To keep a traction efficiency and to improve vehicle maintenance, the adhesion characteristics between wheel and rail are analyzed. Also the re-adhesion controller is designed as the subsystem of induction motor vector control. In order to verify performance of the proposed control techniques, the simulation is executed by train model and a downscaled re-adhesion control simulator is utilized. Both simulation and running test results show that good re-adhesion characteristics are obtained.
