  • Hanging sleepers, which are not fully supported between the sleepers and the ballast, could cause large dynamic forces especially on high speed ballasted track. The dynamic forces resulting from insufficient supporting forces may badly affect the running stability and safety of train. These also accelerate track irregularities and deteriorate track components rapidly. Consequently, the hanging sleepers will lead to sharp increases in track maintenance cost. This paper introduces a rapid and easy method to detect hanging sleepers with portable light falling weight deflectometer (LFWD) and summarizes the results of experiments performed at the high speed ballasted track.

  • High speed railway, KTX has started commercial service last you and passengers is increasing. To secure the safety and reliability of high speed railway, it is necessary to inspect and maintain the rail regularities. Several methods of measuring track irregularities are developed in other railway advanced countries. In this paper, we introduce foreign track Inspection methods and application scheme to Koreans.

  • Recently a concrete slab tracks are being constructed on roadbed in the Gyoeng-bu 2nd phase high speed railways. In respdnding to this trend, new design standards and track materials maintenance systems, based on the slab track material safety and usage perspective, are needed. This research provides a roadbed design criteria and the maintenance system. The proposed roadbed design criteria and the maintenance system are based on the developed analysis meathod of train/slab-track interaction. where the roadbed settlement and train speed are utilized as mediating variables. In the analysis, the dynamic response of train/slab-track interaction apply to various speeds and settlements. the roadbed settlement is shown in a sinusoidal shape of wave, the scope of the settlement occurrence presented in its wavelengths, include 6meters, 10meters, 15merwes, 20meters, 30meters. The train speeds involved are 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400kilometers per hour.

  • For many decades, railroad technology was used to set up tracks with jointed rails and lengths in accordance with rolling and handling technology. The joints lead to drawbacks in the track and in controlling rising maintenance costs. So, railroad engineers became interested in eliminating joints to increase loads, speeds and improvements in rolling, welding, and fastening technology. Continuous welded rail(CWR) track has many advantages over the conventional jointed-rail track. In the case of the elimination of rail joints, it may cause the track to be suddenly and laterally buckled by thermal forces and vehicle load. Thermal forces are caused by an increase in the temperature of railway track. For many years, many analytical and experimental investigations have been conducted to improve the safety of CWR track by various research center in many country. In this paper, CWR track model and CWRB program is developed for buckling analysis using finite element method(FEM). The finite element discretization is used for a rail element with a total of 14 degrees of freedom. The stiffness of the fasteners, tie, and ballast bed is included by a set of spring elements. The investigation on the buckling modes and temperature of CWR track is presented in this paper

  • The rail cant produces a wider bearing area between the wheel and the rail by moving the wheel-rail contact area away from the gauge towards the centre of the railhead, thus improving the wear pattern of the railhead and wheel treads. It is essential to keep the rail cant within the allowable range to ensure optimum track geometry. Neglecting the rail cant geometrical parameters in a track quality evaluation can cause safety of railway vehicle and serviceability problems. In this paper, we examined the effect of the rail cant in general geometry state of the railway track using VI-Rail and analyzed running safety when the railway vehicle passing through curves depending on change of the rail cant and running speed.

  • Most of design parameters of Railway Structures are determined by the serviceability requirements, rather than the structural safety requirements. The serviceability requirements come from Ensuring of running safety and ride comfort of train, reduction of track maintenance working Track-Bridge interaction should be considered in the design of railway structures. In this study, a numerical method which precisely evaluate an axial force of rail and a rail expansion and contraction when turnout exist in succession on a CWR of bridge is developed.

  • The high speed tilting train has superior advantages which are effects on reductions of running time to non-tilting in curves. But in order that the tilting train is operated in conventional track, it is performed evaluation on the running safety. This study carried out an analysis of running stability of tilting train in conventional curved track. The results obtained through this study will be applied to improve the conventional curved track and determine the limit velocity.

  • To reduce the cost and the time of transport in Eurasian railroad networks such as TKR, TCR and TSR owing to the problem of different track gauges (narrow/standard/broad gauge), it is important to develop the gauge - adjustable wheelset system to adapt easily to these gauges. The gauge - adjustable wheelset system in the transcontinental railway have been proposed as a more effective way in comparison with other techniques for overcoming difference in track gauges. Assume that the freight train with gauge adjustable wheelset system is running from domestic train network to TCR, TSR in Eurasian continent, it is necessary to estimate the safety of this system. This study is evaluated at examination of safety for freight train with gauge adjustable wheelset system by simulated durability analysis. Moreover, the predicted fatigue life at running track using the durability simulator was verified by the durability test according to UIC standard.

  • The ERS(Embedded Rail Track system) is constructed in the world due to a slab track system having maintenance free, high structural safety, and deduction of noise and vibration. The ADRI-ERS is developed as Korean type. This paper shows that the design of ADRI-ERS and experiments according to DIN EN 13481-5 and Korea high speed train test guidelines. The ADRI-ERS has high structural safety in pull-out test, longitudinal resistance test, and fatigue test. The design method of ADRI-ERS is proposed by two design constants due to the result of experiments also.

  • This study presents the minimum spring stiffness of resilient track pad considering the safety of running train. A nonlinear static 3-D finite element is used for the modeling of railway superstructure, especially for the reflection of nonlinear resistance of rail fastening system. Moreover, ballast is considered as an elastic foundation. As the input load, eccentric wheel and lateral force are used and they are derived from ' Lateral-force/Wheel-load Estimation Equations '. Analysis results are compared with following two values : allowable lateral displacement of rail head (derived from the geometrical derailment evaluation of wheel/rail) and operation standard value (derived from the field test results of track).
