  • During helicopter rotor system development process, whirl tower test is conducted basically. For conducting whirl tower test during bearingless hub development process, design new blade or using existing blade with repair or remodeling. Because simple shape and efficient aerodynamic characteristic, BO-105 blade is used for hub system development widely. Originally BO-105 blade is used for hingeless hub, ho flap stiffness and lag stiffness on blade root area is relatively low. So applying BO-105 blade to bearingless hub whirl tower test, root area have to be reinforce. In this process, blade root area's section property will be changed. In this paper, suggest reinforcement method of BO-105 blade root area and study dynamic characteristic of bearingless rotor system with reinforcement BO-105 blade.

  • Level design is one of the important factors in tower defense game development. The difficulty of tower defense game depends on its wave design. In general, it requires a lot of manual labor to generate well-balanced waves with fun. In this paper, we propose a new automated wave generation system by using a genetic algorithm. With our system, a game designer can easily generate an optimized wave by designating the difficulty level in the initial stage of game design. Our system can be useful in reducing the trial-errors in the initial level design process of tower defense game development.

  • In case of a line-to-ground fault at transmission lines, a portion of fault current will flow into the earth through the footings of the faulted tower causing electrical potential rise nearby the faulted tower footings. In this situation, any buried pipelines or structures nearby the faulted tower can be exposed to the electrical stress by earth potential rise. Although many research works has been conducted on this phenomena, there has been no clear answer of the required separation distance between tower footings and neary buried pipeline because of its dependancy on the soil electrical charactersics of the concerned area and the faulted system. In this paper, an analytical formula to calculate the requried sepeartion distance from the faulted tower has been derived.

  • When the wind speed is measured by the met-mast sensor it is distorted due to the shadow effect of tower. In this paper the tower shadow effect is analyzed by a computational fluid dynamics code. First three dimensional modeling and flow analysis of the met-mast system were performed. The results were compared with the available experimental wind-tunnel test data to confirm the validity of the meshes and turbulence model. Two-dimensional model was then developed based on the three-dimensional works and experimental data. 2D analysis for various Reynolds numbers and turbulence strengths were then performed to establish the tower shadow effect database, which can be utilized as correction factors for the measured wind energy.

  • The aerodynamic and aero-elastic model tests of the China''s highest cooling tower has been carried out in the TJ-3 Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel of Tongji University. By adopting a scanivalve system, the external wind pressure is firstly measured on $12{\times}36$ taps for a single tower, two and four grouped towers under the condition of both smooth flow and the boundary layer due to surrounding geographic and building topography. The measurements of internal wind pressure distribution of $6{\times}36$ taps are taken for a single tower under the various ventilation ratios ranging from 0% to 100% of stuffing layers located at the bottom of the tower. In the last stage, the wind tunnel tests with an aero-elastic model are carefully conducted to determine wind-induced displacements at six levels (each with eight points) with laser displacement sensors. According to the measurement results of wind pressure or vibration response, the extreme aerodynamic loading values of the single or grouped towers are accordingly analyzed based on probability correlation technique.

  • The present study has been conducted to examine the effect of obstacles around a cooling tower and an air-guide to prevent recirculation. In order to analyze the interaction between external flow and cooling tower exit flow, the external region as well as the cooling, tower are included in computational domain. Two dimensional analysis is performed using the finite volume method with non-orthogonal and unstructured grid system. The standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model is used. To investigate the recirculation phenomena, flow and temperature fields are calculated with three approaches such as, the distance between cooling tower and obstacle, the allocated geometrical type, and the effect of height of obstacle. In addition, the air-guide is considered in the current computation. The mean recirculation rate increases with the height of obstacle. The effect of air-guide to reduce the mean recirculation rate is obviously observed.

  • Wind-power generation, which is recently drawing attention as one of renewable energies across the world, has been developed mainly by Europe. As the demand for the wind-power generation rose and the amount of wind-power generation increased, the studies on megawatt-class wind-power system have been active, and the use of composite with such properties as less weight, more strength, anti-corrosion and environment-friendliness has required gradually. In other word, wind turbine tower will be required to be lighter, more reliable and more consistent. Therefore it is necessary to lose weight of the wind turbine tower. This points squarely toward hybrid/composite tower production growing. It is important to note however that hybrid/composite tower production as it is today is flawed and that there are ways to improve greatly on the performance of these towers in manufacturing process and in their in-service performance. Through this, we have some detail on the current process and its advantage of cost and weight of towers.

  • A new computational approach for the rain load on the transmission tower is presented to obtain the responses of system subjected to the wind and rain combined excitations. First of all, according to the similarity theory, the aeroelastic modeling of high-voltage transmission tower is introduced and two kinds of typical aeroelastic models of transmission towers are manufactured for the wind tunnel tests, which are the antelope horn tower and pole tower. And then, a formula for the pressure time history of rain loads on the tower structure is put forward. The dynamic response analyses and experiments for the two kinds of models are carried out under the wind-induced and wind-rain-induced actions with the uniform and turbulent flow. It has been shown that the results of wind-rain-induced responses are bigger than those of only wind-induced responses and the rain load influence on the transmission tower can't be neglected during the strong rainstorm. The results calculated by the proposed method have a good agreement with those by the wind tunnel test. In addition, the wind-rain-induced responses along and across the wind direction are in the same order of response magnitude of towers.

  • As construction projects have increased in size and height recently, lifting accounts for increasingly greater portion and tower cranes are used more frequently. At present, the selection and arrangement of tower crane are depend on the experience of experts. However, since the number of experts is fairly limited and a database for tower cranes regarding lifting capacity, operation properties, rent, etc has not been widely employed, tower cranes are often not effectively selected and arranged which can cause cost overruns and delays in the lifting work. To address such issues, this study attempts to perform a basic study for development of automatic arrangement algorithm of tower crane using drawing recognition. If relevant database is established and the algorithm suggested in this study is refined more systematically, even beginning level engineers will be able to plan tower crane arrangement in a way comparable to experienced experts.
