  • This paper presents a robotic tower-crane system using encoder and gyroscope sensors as path tracking devices. Tower crane work is often associated with falling accidents and industrial disasters. Such problems often incur a loss of time and money for the contractor. For this reason, many studies have been done on an automatic tower crane. As a part of 5-year 23-million-dollar research project in Korea, we are developing a robotic tower crane which aims to improve the safety level and productivity. We selected a luffing tower crane, which is commonly used in urban construction projects today, as a platform for the robotic tower crane system. This system comprises two modules: the automated path planning module and the path tracking module. The automated path planning system uses the 3D Cartesian coordinates. When the robotic tower crane lifts construction material, the algorithm creates a line, which represents a lifting path, in virtual space. This algorithm seeks and generates the best route to lift construction material while avoiding known obstacles from real construction site. The path tracking system detects the location of a lifted material in terms of the 3D coordinate values using various types of sensors including adopts encoder and gyroscope sensors. We are testing various sensors as a candidate for the path tracking device. This specific study focuses on how to employ encoder and gyroscope sensors in the robotic crane These sensors measure a movement and rotary motion of the robotic tower crane. Finally, the movement of the robotic tower crane is displayed in a virtual space that synthesizes the data from two modules: the automatically planned path and the tracked paths. We are currently field-testing the feasibility of the proposed system using an actual tower crane. In the next step, the robotic tower crane will be applied to actual construction sites with a following analysis of the crane's productivity in order to ascertain its economic efficiency.

  • In this paper the ultimate strength of the R/C cooling towers, which have initial imperfection and pre-cracked elements, is analyzed. The initial geometric imperfections arise from the unavoidable inaccuracies under the construction and the pre-cracks are assumed to be produced by the temperature stress gradients or cyclic loading under wind pressure and/or earthquake load. Both effects are strongly influenced on the strength of the R/C cooling tower shell structures. The reinforcing ratio is also the important factor to evaluate the ultimate strength of the R/C cooling tower shells. However we could not analyze these structures experimentally because of their large, analyses are the powerful schemes to evaluate the safety and reliability of these structures. The analyzed model is Port Gibson cooling tower shell. In the numerical analysis the geometric and material nonlinearities are taken into account.

  • A new tower internal, which is called CSE, is presented. The CSE is composed of a nozzle perforated in its bottom along the entire periphery and equipped with a multi vane axial swirler at the inlet and hollow cylindrical separator at the outlet of the nozzle. According to the experimental work for obtaining the necessary hydraulic information of the CSE, which is used for preliminary design of a separation column, the CSE showed a stable operation over the wide rage of gas/liquid ratio. However, it caused large pressure drop due to the high gas velocity which should carry liquid droplets through the element. The high pressure drop may cause problems in energy recovery and the application of the CSE can be limited to the high pressure columns. Assuming that the tray efficiency of the CSE is the same with the existing separation columns, the results of the column design showed the size reduction of the column diameters by 30 to $40\%$ and investment cost saving, depending on operating conditions. The application of the CSE to separation column may also contribute to the de-bottlenecking the existing column.

  • Recently, The Building has became high rising and large scaling according to development of economy in domestic and other country, also the building has increased a variety of functions of insulation for warmth. and it has a symbol of economic growth, but it has risk factor for disasters such as fire. this hazards include not only general building but also residential building. Recently, Grenfell Fire that occurred in England has increased in combustion to the 24th floor of the 1st floor for 1 hour. it resulted in 80 deaths and 79 missing persons. In this study we suggest basic data of residential building for fire safety design related to domestic environment to analyze the problem of Grenfell Tower.

  • Generally, a straight displacement meter is used to obtain displacement data to verify the safety of structural members and structures. A straight displacement meter is also used to measure the absolute displacement in research laboratories or safety inspection sites such as bridges and buildings. In this study, for structures in which the displacement sensor could not be fixed at the location where the displacement was to be measured, a circular displacement meter was manufactured to measure the displacement by installing a displacement gauge on the structure itself. In other words, when measuring the horizontal displacement of an upper part, such as a wind tower, a circular displacement meter was installed inside the wind tower to integrate it with the structure, applying the principle that the structure itself can be used as a displacement meter. This circular displacement meter can be installed and used inside a circular structure. Whereas in the case of a telephone pole, it can be installed outside to measure displacement. It can be manufactured in various sizes and used.

  • A long-span transmission tower-line system is indispensable for long-distance electricity transmission across a large river or valley; hence, the failure of this system, especially the collapse of the supporting towers, has serious impacts on power grids. To ensure the safety and reliability of transmission systems, this study experimentally and numerically investigates the collapse failure of a 220 kV long-span transmission tower-line system subjected to severe earthquakes. A 1:20 scale model of a transmission tower-line system is constructed in this research, and shaking table tests are carried out. Furthermore, numerical studies are conducted in ABAQUS by using the Tian-Ma-Qu material model, the results of which are compared with the experimental findings. Good agreement is found between the experimental and numerical results, showing that the numerical simulation based on the Tian-Ma-Qu material model is able to predict the weak points and collapse process of the long-span transmission tower-line system. The failure of diagonal members at weak points constitutes the collapse-inducing factor, and the ultimate capacity and weakest segment vary with different seismic wave excitations. This research can further enrich the database for the seismic performance of long-span transmission tower-line systems.

  • This paper presents the structural health monitoring (SHM) of Shanghai Tower. In order to provide useful information for safety evaluation and regular maintenance under construction and in-service condition, a comprehensive structural health monitoring (SHM) system is installed in Shanghai Tower, which is composed of a main monitoring station and eleven substations. Structural responses at different construction stages are measured using this SHM system and presented in this study. Meanwhile, a detailed finite element model (FEM) is created and comparison of results between SHM and FEM is carried out. Results indicate that the time-dependent property of concrete creep is of great importance to structural response and the measured data can be used in FEM updating to obtain more accurate FEM models at different construction stages. Therefore, installation of structural health monitoring system in super-tall buildings could be considered as an effective way to assure structural safety during the construction process.

  • In this paper, a monitoring system for telecommunication tower using wireless sensor network is presented. Although safety inspection could be judged by eyesight and calculating original design from now, not only this system can protect perils, estimating data exactly, but also it is effective to management. It is also economic because the system costs cheaper expenses for telecommunication tower of setting it once than for the tower of inspecting its safety regularly. This paper proves that the structure can be managed scientifically and efficiently, and the system contributes not only stabilized telecommunication services for users but reducing damages.

  • Building Construction projects are getting higher and larger. Therefore, the use of Tower Crane, which is more productive than any other lifting plan shows a trend of continuous increases. However as equipment for transporting heavy goods, are is too expensive for the monthly rent and used inefficiently for construction. site so it is analyzed that it has problems of reducing productivity and efficiency of lifting work. Inefficient situations are arising like poor communications between operator and worker, occurrence of blind spots, securing the shortest distance of fire during movement after lifting plan, influences of weather, location of materials, movement radius of tower crane by each locations and ever-changing working environments. Therefore, in this study, we first made a list of tower cranes that are inefficiently used at the site, and then we made a checklist. After that, through field visits, we derived checklist for Tower Crane to comprehensive data value.
