The present study has been conducted to examine the effect of obstacles around a cooling tower and an air-guide to prevent recirculation. In order to analyze the interaction between external flow and cooling tower exit flow, the external region as well as the cooling, tower are included in computational domain. Two dimensional analysis is performed using the finite volume method with non-orthogonal and unstructured grid system. The standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model is used. To investigate the recirculation phenomena, flow and temperature fields are calculated with three approaches such as, the distance between cooling tower and obstacle, the allocated geometrical type, and the effect of height of obstacle. In addition, the air-guide is considered in the current computation. The mean recirculation rate increases with the height of obstacle. The effect of air-guide to reduce the mean recirculation rate is obviously observed.

In this paper, design method for power tower hazard diagnosis/predition system based on UsN was proposed. The proposed method used multi-hybrid sensors to measure rotation, displacement, and inclination state of power tower, and made decision/prediction of hazard of power tower. System design was made with requirement analysis of monitoring for transmission power facility and use of MEMS and optic fiber sensors. For hazard decision, analysis of correlation was made using sensor output. LN based on IEC61850,international standard for digital substation, was also proposed. For transmission facility monitoring, digital substation and power tower were considered as parts of power facility networks.
In case of a line-to-ground fault at transmission lines, a portion of fault current will flow into the earth through the footings of the faulted tower causing electrical potential rise nearby the faulted tower footings. In this situation, any buried pipelines or structures nearby the faulted tower can be exposed to the electrical stress by earth potential rise. Although many research works has been conducted on this phenomena, there has been no clear answer of the required separation distance between tower footings and neary buried pipeline because of its dependancy on the soil electrical charactersics of the concerned area and the faulted system. In this paper, an analytical formula to calculate the requried sepeartion distance from the faulted tower has been derived.

This paper compares simplified and finite element method (FEM) models for tower and blade in dynamic coupled analysis of floating wind turbine. A SPAR type wind turbine with catenary mooring lines is considered in numerical analysis. Floating body equation is derived using boundary element method (BEM) and convolution. Equations for mooring line, tower and blade are formulated with theories of catenary, elastic beam and aerodynamic rotating beam, respectively and FEM is applied in the formulation. By combining the equations, coupled solutions are calculated. Tower or blade may be assumed rigid or lumped body for simplicity in modeling. By comparing floating body motions, mooring line tensions and tower stresses with the simple model and original FEM model, the effect of including or neglecting elastic, rotating and aerodynamic behavior of tower and blade is discussed.

Wind power generation is one of the promising gateways that will solve the energy crisis in the future. The wind power generator studied so far is limited to static interpretation in the areas related to tower. This study broadly sets the form of tower as tubular and jacket, identifies the characteristics of each and aims to find and apply their trend to in actual design and manufacturing process. This paper identified the resonance frequency of tower at each mode and studied their features. Furthermore, this study identified the characteristics of the load that occurs in operation and the effect of additional mass incurring when installed in sea, and it compared the two types of tower and was able to predict their trend.
Dynamic test with scaled model of a group of intake towers was performed to study the dynamic interaction between water and towers. The test model consists of intake tower or towers, massless foundation near the towers and part of water to simulate the dynamic interaction of tower-water-foundation system. Models with a single tower and 4 towers were tested to find the different influences of the water on the tower dynamic properties, seismic responses as well as dynamic water-tower interaction. It is found that the water has little influence on the resonant frequency in the direction perpendicular to flow due to the normal force transfer role of the water in the contraction joints between towers. By the same effect of the water, maximum accelerations in the same direction on 4 towers tend to close to each other as the water level increased from low to normal level. Moreover, the acceleration responses of the single tower model are larger than the group of towers model in both directions in general. Within 30m from the surface of water, hydrodynamic pressures were quite close for a single tower and group of towers model at two water levels. For points deeper than 30m, the pressures increased about 40 to 55% for the group of towers model than the single tower model at both water levels. In respect to the pressures at different towers, two mid towers experienced higher than two side towers, the deeper, the larger the difference. And the inside hydrodynamic pressures are more dependent on ground motions than the outside.

This study is concerned with the nonlinear dynamic behaviors of guyed towers for wave loadings. In order to analyze the nonlinear responses of guyed towers efficiently, the main tower is modeled as an equivalent stick, the guyline system is idealized as a spring with nonlinear stiffness in the horizontal direction. and the pile foundation system is represented as a linear spring in the rotational direction. The wave forces on the main tower are evaluated by using Morison's equation. In order to consider adequately the nonlinearities of the guying system and drag forces due to fluid viscosity. the analyses are performed in the time domain. The mode superposition method is adopted for solving the nonlinear equation of motion efficiently. which is based on the Newmark integration scheme. Numerical analyses are carried out to investigate the sensitivity of two major design parameters for guyed towers. i.e., the clump weight conditions and the base renditions of the tower.

This paper describes dynamic characteristics of a power transmission tower consisting of lots of power lines and insulators. A numerical 3D modeling for the static, dynamic and buckling analyses of the power transmission tower is presented considering the case when the power lines are cut. Eigenvalue analysis indicates that the transmission tower shows different behavior comparing to usual structures governed by several low modes. The transmission tower is governed by lots of modes. It is verified that the transmission tower is structurally safe against the static wind and buckling loads. But the structural and buckling safety is not guaranteed when all power lines are cut, which comes to collapse the transmission tower. Further study is in need to overcome such case. Wind dynamic analysis shows that fluctuating wind loads increase the response of the tower.
As concrete wind-turbine towers are increasingly being used in wind-farm construction, there is a growing need to understand the behavior of concrete wind-turbine towers. In particular, experimental evaluations of concrete wind-turbine towers are necessary to demonstrate the dynamic characteristics and load-carrying capacity of such towers. This paper describes a model test of a prestressed concrete wind-turbine tower that examines the dynamic characteristics and load-carrying performance of the tower. Additionally, a numerical model is presented and used to verify the design approach. The test results indicate that the first natural frequency of the prestressed concrete wind turbine tower is 0.395 Hz which lies between frequencies 1P and 3P (0.25-0.51 Hz). The damper ratio is 3.3%. The maximum concrete compression stresses are less than the concrete design compression strength, the maximum tensile stresses are less than zero and the prestressed strand stresses are less than the design strength under both the serviceability and ultimate limit state loads. The maximum displacement of the tower top are 331 mm and 648 mm for the serviceability limit state and ultimate limit state, respectively, which is less than L/100 = 1000 mm. Compared with traditional tall wind-turbine steel towers, the prestressed concrete tower has better material damping properties, potential lower maintenance cost, and lower construction costs. Thus, the prestressed concrete wind-turbine tower could be an innovative engineering solution for multi-megawatt wind turbine towers, in particular those that are taller than 100 m.
The Skeleton Tower problem is an example of a curriculum that integrates algebra and geometry. Finding the number of the cubes in the tower can be approached in more than one way, such as counting arithmetically, drawing geometric diagrams, enumerating various possibilities or rules, or using algebraic equations, which makes the tasks accessible to students with varied prior knowledge and experience. So, it will be a good topic which can be used in the elementary grades if we exclude the method of using algebraic equations. The purpose of this paper is to propose some points which can be considered with attention by gifted children education teachers by analyzing the 4th Skeleton Tower problem solutions made by 3rd and 4th graders in their selection test who applied for the education of gifted children in math at J University for the year of 2010.
