OWC based Smart TV Remote Controller Design Using Flashlight

  • The technology convergence of television, communication, and computing devices enables the rich social and entertaining experience through Smart TV in personal living space. The powerful smart TV computing platform allows to provide various user interaction interfaces like IR remote control, web based control, body gesture based control, etc. The presently used smart TV interaction user control methods are not efficient and user-friendly to access different type of media content and services and strongly required advanced way to control and access to the smart TV with easy user interface. This paper propose the optical wireless communication (OWC) based remote controller design for Smart TV using smart device Flashlights. In this approach, the user smart device act as a remote controller with touch based interactive smart device application and transfer the user control interface data to smart TV trough Flashlight using visible light communication method. The smart TV built-in camera follows the optical camera communication (OCC) principle to decode data and control smart TV user access functions according. This proposed method is not harmful as radio frequency (RF) radiation does it on human health and very simple to use as well user does need to any gesture moves to control the smart TV.

  • This paper evaluates the influences of sex on the human emotions while coexisting with robots. When we consider human vision, robot's motion is the most important parameter which influences human emotions and must be well controlled for males and females emotions. On the other hand, when we consider human touch of sense, which is effective for cooperation transmitting mutual forces, the softness of robot is an important parameter for human emotions and must be also well controlled for males and females emotions. From these points of view, at first, we evaluate robot's motion under four different shapes of velocity pattern while handing over a cup to humans. Second, we evaluate robot's softness realized by impedance control. From the first experiment, we concluded that the conditions of choosing an adequate maximum velocity value and locating the velocity peak at the center or the first half of the duration are necessary for male's emotions. In addition, the smooth velocity decrease in the last part of the velocity pattern's duration is desired for female's emotions. From the second experiment, we concluded that females prefer lighter values of virtual impedance characteristics than males and any small increase on the heaviness of virtual impedance values is followed by the negative exponential change on human emotions.

  • The Internet is emerging as a powerful tool in the area of information and communication technology. The WWW has been especially contributed to increase the internet demand because of its browser which has "Graphic User Interface". Nowadays number of hosts that supply harmful information such as pornographic materials, and the infringement of human rights is rapidly increased. Access to such materials is very easy. Therefore security system which will protect young users from access to harmful host is needed. This paper presents implementation of user system has database about harmful hosts at the Internet and monitors that the user traffic over LAM get touch with the hosts. The system can not make the user access the harmful host because it can over LAN. The performance analysis on the developed system monitoring the traffic over LAN of Andong university is carried out. The performance analysis of monitoring results satisfies with preventing users from the connection to the internet harmful sites.

  • In this paper, we designed and built a wired temperature controller system which is based on ASIC for a wireless temperature controller system based on FPGA. FPGA devices and wireless controller systems are growing quickly especially for industrial systems for sensing temperature and humidity. FPGA can set up a desired system and a CPU, and directly set up or change a peripheral device based on an IP quickly for an affordable price. This wireless system is easy to install in the field where there are lots of changes and the system is complex. It also has advantages for maintenance. In this study, we are using a 32 bit RISC CPU based on MicroBlaze, with a touch interface, peripheral device, and porting the embedded Linux. Also, we added wireless communication using ZigBee. With this system we provide remote monitoring and control through the web by adding a web server. Compared to the original system, we say not only a performance improvement, but also more efficient development and cheaper costs. In this study, we focused especially on building a better development environment and a more effective user interface.

  • This paper presents the design and development of ECU simulator in order to verify automatic firmware update system of ECU SW on the vehicle. We designed and developed general-proposed ECU simulator as devide into HW and SW parts. HWadopt 32bit MPU, CAN, LIN, LCD, and touch-pad button to satisfy general-proposed ECU level. And SW constructed as finite-state-machine structure in order to support HW spec. We developed ECU manager which deliveries update data to verify validity of operation. And we tested ECU simulator with ECU manager. For test of validity of ECU simulator, we set 4 scenarios between ECU simulator and manager. As the result, we confirmed validity of operation in ECU simulator for automatic SW update system.

  • VR(Virtual reality) technologies have given engineers the ability to design, test, and evaluate engineering systems in a virtual environment. The virtual plant is the highlight of the application of the VR technology to plant engineering. Plant design, maintenance, control, management, operation are integrated in the virtual plant. The VR monitoring system including the concept of the virtual plant is developed to replace a current control room that has number of gages and warning lamps in two-dimensional panels which shows the operating status of a plant. The operating status of the plant is displayed in the VR monitoring system through the realistic computer graphics. Sophisticated, realistic and prompt control becomes possible. The VR monitoring system consists of advanced visualization, walk-through simulation and navigation. In the virtual environment, a user can navigate and interact with each component of a plant. In addition, the user can access the information by just clicking interesting component. The VR monitoring system is operated with various modules, such as (1) virtual plant constructed with Graphic Management System (GMS), (2) Touch & Tell System, and (3) Equipment DB System of Part. In order to confirm the usefulness of the VR monitoring system, a pilot gas plant which is currently being used for plant operator training is taken as application. The end of the paper gives an outlook on the future work and a brief conclusion.

  • The information stored in the computer system needs to be protected from unauthorized access, malicious destruction or alteration and accidental inconsistency. In this paper, we propose an intrusion detection system based on sensor concept for defecting and preventing malicious attacks We use software sensor objects which consist of sensor file for each important directory and sensor data for each secret file. Every sensor object is a sort of trap against the attack and it's touch tan be considered as an intrusion. The proposed system is a new challenge of setting up traps against most interception threats that try to copy or read illicitly programs or data. We have implemented the proposed system on the Linux operating system using loadable kernel module technique. The proposed system combines host~based detection approach and network-based one to achieve reasonably complete coverage, which makes it possible to detect unknown interception threats.

A Study of User Behavior Recognition-Based PIN Entry Using Machine Learning Technique (머신러닝을 이용한 사용자 행동 인식 기반의 PIN 입력 기법 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose a PIN entry method that combines with machine learning technique on smartphone. We use not only a PIN but also touch time intervals and locations as factors to identify whether the user is correct or not. In the user registration phase, a remote server was used to train/create a machine learning model using data that collected from end-user device (i.e. smartphone). In the user authentication phase, the pre-trained model and the saved PIN was used to decide the authentication success or failure. We examined that there is no big inconvenience to use this technique (FRR: 0%) and more secure than the previous PIN entry techniques (FAR : 0%), through usability and security experiments, as a result we could confirm that this technique can be used sufficiently. In addition, we examined that a security incident is unlikely to occur (FAR: 5%) even if the PIN is leaked through the shoulder surfing attack experiments.

Technique for PIN Entry Using an Accelerometer Sensor and a Vibration Sensor on Smartphone (스마트폰에서 가속도 센서와 진동 센서를 이용한 PIN 입력 기법)

  • There have been previous researches about user authentication by analyzing the user's gait or behavior or action using the accelerometer sensor of smartphone, but there was a lack of user convenience to apply PIN entry. In this paper, we propose the technique for PIN entry without a touch on smartphone, the technique uses an accelerometer sensor and a vibration sensor built in the smartphone to enter the PIN. We conducted a usability experiment using the proposed technique and confirmed that the usability can be increased according to users become accustomed to this technique and that the users can enter PIN with 12.9 seconds and a probability of 100% on average. Also we conducted a security experiment and confirmed that an attack success rate is 0% when an attacker attacked the user using the recording attack and that it is more secure than the previous PIN entry technique. As a result, we was able to confirm that this technique can be used sufficiently.

  • The haptic sense is one of the five human senses that deeply affects cognitive development and everyday lives of children and adults. Recently, researchers and developers have started active discussions and research on haptic technologies. The purpose of this paper is to explain the role of haptics in learning, review studies that have attempted to use haptic technologies to teach students, and discuss how these technologies can be applied in special education context. National and international databases were searched and analyzed using meta-analysis methods. The few studies that have been completed so far are heavily focused on math and science learning. However, haptic technology has great potentials for children with disabilities who can benefit from extra assistance from these devices in wide areas of curriculum including math, science, music, art, history, and so on.
