This research presents the relationship among machining time, cycle time and demand rate in a cellular manufacturing system. The manufacturing cell produces part families by automated machines. This paper discusses the cases of increasing demand rate in an existing cell and designing cell based on the demand rate. This research developed an algorithm for decision making such as cycle time, machines and workers in order to minimize the total machine capacity and the number of workers for any given demand rate. The proposed algorithm was successfully applied for the design and operation of cell manufacturing with a good result.
The purpose of this study was to compare the nutritional status and the immunocompetence of elderly women residing in urban and rural areas. Dietary food records and anthropometric measurements were used to evaluate the nutritional status of subjects. The immune function of subjects was assessed by total and differential white blood cell(WBC) counts. Total B and T Lymphocytes, and T cell subsets were quantified by flow-cytometer. Immunoglobulin G, A, and M concentrations were also measured as an index of humoral immunity. Elderly women in rural area showed a relatively lower dietary intake of total energy, protein, and iron than did urban elderly women. Total WBC, neutrophil counts, eosinophil counts, and the percentage of neutrophils among total leukocytes were significantly higher in urban elderly women than in rural women. Although the numbers of lymphocytes were not significantly different, the percentage of Lymphocytes among total leukocytes as greater in rural elderly women than in urban. Both groups did not show any significant differences in numbers of T cell subsets and NK cells. Immunoglobulin G, A, and M levels were not significantly different between the two groups, but the numbers of subjects placed under the deficient range of immunoglobulins were greater in rural than in urban elderly women. from the present study, it could be suggested that poor nutritional intake may selectively affect the number of immune cells, thereby influencing the immunocompetence of elderly women. We apply a "sliding-window" Maximum Likelihood(ML) estimator to estimate traffic parameters On-Off source and develop a method for estimating stochastic predicted individual cell arrival rates. Based on these results, we propose a simple Connection Admission Control(CAC)scheme for delay sensitive services in broadband onboard packet switching satellite systems. The algorithms are motivated by the limited onboard satellite buffer, the large propagation delay, and low computational capabilities inherent in satellite communication systems. We develop an algorithm using the predicted individual cell loss ratio instead of using steady state cell loss ratios. We demonstrate the CAC benefits of this approach over using steady state cell loss ratios as well as predicted total cell loss ratios. We also derive the predictive saturation probability and the predictive cell loss ratio and use them to control the total number of connections. Predictive congestion control mechanisms allow a satellite network to operate in the optimum region of low delay and high throughput. This is different from the traditional reactive congestion control mechanism that allows the network to recover from the congested state. Numerical and simulation results obtained suggest that the proposed predictive scheme is a promising approach for real time CAC.
This paper presents a cell formation approach for a cellular manufacturing system to minimize the inter-cell moves considering operation sequences. Two new factors are introduced: (1)flow-similarity(FS) for integrating direct/indirect inter-machine flow and similarity (2)machine cell-part moves (CPM) for exactly computing inter-cell moves. FS is used for combining machines and CPM is used for assigning the parts to the preliminary machine cells. In addition, we develop an aggregated heuristic algorithm to form manufacturing machine cells and assign the parts to those cells based on these concepts. We use performance criterion called total inter-cell moves(TICM), which is the total material flow between internal cells and external cells. Results of computational tests on a number of randomly generated test problems show that the suggested heuristic is superior to existing methods.
A series of studies has been conducted to establish a base infrastructure for an ovarian follicle culture system in the porcine and this study was designed to develop an effective retrieval protocol of preantral follicles. Five different methods using collagenase type I (A) or IV (B, C1, C2 and C3), which employed different treatment durations and/or conditions, were employed and sliced ovarian tissue of prepubertal gilts was provided for the retrieval. A significant increase in total number of follicles retrieved was detected when collagenase IV (methods B or C) was used. In total, more ovarian follicles were retrieved by method B undertaking agitation and method C2 without the agitation than method C1 and C3, while the number of preantral follicles collected was the largest in method B. Neither incubation in 5% $CO_2$ in air atmosphere instead of the agitation nor increased duration of enzymatic treatment up to 120 minutes improved the efficiency of follicle retrieval. There were no differences in the number of follicles retrieved from intact ovaries and from used ovaries for oocyte collection. These results demonstrate the collagenase IV treatment with agitation is effective for retrieving porcine preantral follicles from the ovaries.
Objectives In this study, we evaluated the therapeutic effects of Gami-Bojungikgitang and Gami-Jwagwieum for bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis in mice. Methods Extracted lyophilization, Gami-Bojungikgitang (96g) and Gami-Jwagwieum (118g) boiled, filtered, depressed, concentrated, and are obtained. They were divided into five groups: normal, group IA; Animal group treated with bleomycin observed on the 21th day, group IB; Animal group treated with bleomycin observed on the 42th day, group IIA; Animal group treated with bleomycin and Gami-Bojungikgitang. Gami-Jwagwieum observed on the 21th day, group IIB; Animal group treated with bleomycin and Gami-Bojungikgitang/Gami-Jwagwieum observed on the 42th day. Mice are used on the 42th day and as a result, bronchoalveolar lavages fluid is obtained. Counting total number of cells, different ratio of macrophage, lymphocyte, and neutrophil are established. Results In animal group treated with bleomycin and Gami-Bojungikgitang, total cell count decreased by 50% in 3 weeks compared to animal group with non-administrated Gami-Bojungikgitang. However, total cell count in 6 weeks increased compared to 3 weeks although total cell count still decreased compared to animal group with non-administrated Gami-Bojungikgitang. In the view of differential cell counts in bronchoalveolar lavages fluid in treatment group on 3 and 6 weeks, neutrophile was a few and lymphocyte decreased. In animal group treated with bleomycin and Gami-Jwagwieum, total cell count decreased by 50% in 3 and 6 weeks compared to animal group with non-administrated Gami-Jwagwieum. In the view of differential cell counts in bronchoalveolar lavages fluid in treatment group on 3 and 6 weeks, lymphocyte also decreased. Conclusions Gami-Bojungikgitang and especially Gami-Jwagwieum for bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis in mice were effective in total cell count and differential cell count.
Objective: In vitro culture of preimplantation embryos is improved by grouping embryos together in a drop of media. Individually cultured embryos are deprived of paracrine factors; with this in mind, we investigated whether the addition of a single embryo-secreted factor, interleukin-6 (IL-6), could improve the development of individually cultured embryos. Methods: Mouse embryos were cultured individually in $2{\mu}L$ of G1/G2 media in 5% oxygen and supplemented with a range of doses of recombinant mouse or human IL-6. Results: Mouse IL-6 increased hatching at doses of 0.01 and 10 ng/mL compared to the control (93% and 93% vs. 78%, p< 0.05) and increased the total number of cells at a dose of 0.1 ng/mL compared to the control ($101.95{\pm}3.36$ vs. $91.31{\pm}3.33$, p< 0.05). In contrast, the highest dose of 100 ng/mL reduced the total number of cells ($79.86{\pm}3.29$, p< 0.05). Supplementation with human IL-6 had a different effect, with no change in hatching or total cell numbers, but an increase in the percentage of inner cell mass per embryo at doses of 0.1, 1, and 100 ng/mL compared to the control ($22.9%{\pm}1.1%$, $23.3%{\pm}1.1%$, and $23.1%{\pm}1.1%$ vs. $19.5%{\pm}1.0%$, p< 0.05). Conclusion: These data show that IL-6 improved mouse embryo development when cultured individually in complex media; however, an excess of IL-6 may be detrimental. Additionally, these data indicate that there is some cross-species benefit of human IL-6 for mouse embryos, but possibly through a different mechanism than for mouse IL-6.
Objective: Sleep deprivation (SD) is a common problem in today's stressful lifestyle and have physiological consequences, including reproductive dysfunction and infertility. As an antioxidant, olive oil may be effective in reducing testicular and spermatological damage by decreasing the production of free radicals. Methods: This study investigated the effects of olive oil on sperm quality and testicular structure using stereological methods to assess rats with SD. Results: When comparing SD group to grid floor+distilled water (GR) group, we found that the sperm count and motility, as well as the percentage of slow progressive sperm was significantly lower in SD group (p<0.05), but the percentage of immotile sperm was higher (p<0.01). However, no improvement was observed in sperm count or motility after concomitant treatment of SD group with olive oil. Stereological examinations revealed no significant change in the total volumes of the seminiferous tubules, interstitial tissue, and germinal epithelium in the study groups. Conversely, the total number of testicular cell types was significantly lower in SD group than in GR group. Although the total number of Sertoli and Leydig cells was significantly higher in the S +olive oil group than in the untreated SD group, no significant difference in the total number of other testicular cell types was observed between the two groups. Conclusion: SD potentially induced structural changes in testis that affected sperm count and motility. However, olive oil only improved the total number of Sertoli and Leydig cells in the animals with SD and did not improve sperm count and motility.
Rising of water temperature due to global warming is a great concern to aquaculturists and fishery biologists. Hence, the present study aimed to investigate the effects of high water temperature on juvenile red spotted grouper, Epinephelus akaara based on the evaluation of stress responses in blood. E. akaara juveniles were exposed to different thermal conditions ($25^{\circ}C$, $28^{\circ}C$, $31^{\circ}C$, and $34^{\circ}C$) for 6 weeks following 2 weeks of acclimation at $25^{\circ}C$. Blood cell morphology and number were examined at three sampling points (2, 7, and 42 days) from a total of 180 fish. Major erythrocytic cellular abnormalities (ECA) observed in blood smears of thermally stressed groups ($31^{\circ}C$ and $34^{\circ}C$) after 6 weeks were echinocytes, teardrop-like cells, swollen cells and vacuolated cells. Both red and white blood cell number (RBC and WBC) were significantly (p<0.05) elevated in $31^{\circ}C$ and $34^{\circ}C$ group after 6 weeks thermal exposure. Differential leucocytes number showed significant increases in neutrophil (N) and decreases in lymphocytes (L) in the highest temperature ($34^{\circ}C$). Different N:L ratio was observed at different thermal conditions which can be used as a reliable alternative to measure stress response. Taken together, these results suggest that higher temperature ($31^{\circ}C$ and $34^{\circ}C$) can interfere the immune system of red spotted grouper by altering the blood cell morphology and number.
