Electro-chemical Preparation of TiO2/CNT Electrodes with TNB Electrolyte and Their Photoelectrocatalytic Effect

  • We investigate a method for the electrochemical preparation of titanium dioxide/carbon nanotube ($TiO_2$/CNT) composites involving the electroplating of Ti in a titanium n-butoxide (TNB) electrolyte into a CNT matrix. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface areas of $TiO_2$/CNT composites decrease as the electrochemical operating time increases. Changes in XRD patterns show a typical anatase type on the $TiO_2$/CNT composite prepared with a CNT matrix by the electroplating method in a TNB solution. In SEM micrographs, the titanium complex particles are uniformly distributed on the CNT surface. The results of chemical elemental analysis for the $TiO_2$/CNT composites show that most of the spectra for these samples produce stronger peaks for carbon and Ti metal than for any other element. Finally, the prominent photoelectrocatalytic activities of the $TiO_2$/CNT composites can be attributed to the combined effects of photodegradation of $TiO_2$, electron assistance of CNT, and the application of a sufficient voltage.

산소 결함형 $TiO_2$ 분말의 가시광에 대한 광촉매 활성 (Photocatalytic Activity of $TiO_2$ Powder with an Oxygen Deficiency in the Visible-Light Region)

  • It prepared the $TiO_2$ powder which has photo-catalytic activity in the visible-light by the wet process with titanium oxysulfate. The titanium $dioxide(TiO_2)$ by the wet process creates a new absorption band in the visible light region, and is expected to create photocatalytic activity in this region. Anatase $TiO_2$ powder which has photocatalytic activity in the visible light region, is treated using microwave and radio-frequency(RF) plasma. But, the $TiO_2$ powder for the visible light region, which also can be easily produced by wet process. The wet process $TiO_2$ absorbed visible light between 400nm and 600nm, and showed a high activity in this region, as measured by the oxidation removal of aceton from the gas phase. The AH-380 sample appears the yellow color to be strong, the catalytic activity in the visible ray was excellent in comparison with the plasma-treated $TiO_2$. The AH-380 $TiO_2$ powder, which can be easily produced on a large scale, is expected to have higher efficiency in utilizing solar energy than the plasma-treated $TiO_2$ powder.

Titanium Phosphide 표면에 대한 세포독성 및 골친화성의 평가 (Evaluation of cytotoxicity and bone affinity on the surface of a titanium phosphide)

  • Dental implants have been developed for enhancement of osseointegration. Biocompatibility, bone affinity and surface characteristics of dental implants are very important factors for osseointegration. The aim of the present study was to determine the cytotoxicity and the bone affinity of titanium phosphide(Ti-P) implant material. The Ti-P surface was obtained by vacuum sintering of titanium within compacted hydroxyapatite powder. The composition and the chemical change of the surface were determined by Auger electron spectroscopy. The in vitro cytotoxicity was evaluated by the viability of the bone cells and macrophages obtained from chicken embryo and rat,s peritonium, respectively. For the comparative evaluation, 316L stainless steel, commercially pure titanium and Ti-P materials, prepared in size of 1O.0mm in diameter and 5.0mm in height, were immersed separately in bone cells and macrophages for 10 days. For the evaluation of the in vivo bone affinity, 316L stainless steel, commercially pure titanium and Ti-P materials, prepared in size of 5.0mm in diameter and 10.0mm in length, were implanted after drilling in diameter 5.5mm in femurs of 2 dogs weighing 10Kg more or less. Six weeks after implantation the specimens were prepared for histopathological examination and were observed under light microscope. In comparison of in vitro bone cell viability, Ti-P and commercially pure titanium groups were not significantly different from control group (p>O.1), but 316L stainless steel group was significantly lower than control group(p<0.05). There was no statistical difference in the viability of macrophages between 3 different groups and control group(p>O.l). In comparison of in vivo study, 316L stainless steel and commercially pure titanium showed fibrous encapsulation, but Ti-P showed remarkable new bone formation without any fibrous tissue. The results demonstrate that Ti-P has favorable biocompatibility and bone affinity, and suggest that dental implants with Ti-P surface may enhance osseointegration.

  • Titanium alloy sheets have excellent specific strength and corrosion resistance as well as good performance at high temperature. Recently, titanium alloys are widely employed not only aerospace parts but also bio prothesis and motorcycle. However, due to the low formability and large spring back at room temperature, titanium alloy sheets were usually formed by slow forming or hot forming with heating die and specimen. In the sheet metal forming area, FE simulation technique to optimize forming process is widely used. To achieve high accuracy FE simulation results, Identification of material properties and deformation characteristic such as yield function are very important. In this study, uniaxial tensile and biaxial tensile test of Ti-6Al-4V alloy sheet with thickness of 1.0mm were performed at elevated temperature of 873k. Biaxial tensile tests with cruciform specimen were performed until the specimen was breakdown to characterize the yield locus of Ti-6Al-4V alloy sheet. The experimental results for yield locus are compared with the theoretical predictions based on Von Mises, Hill, Logan-Hosford, and Balat's model. Among these Logan-Hosford's yield criterion well predicts the experimental results.

Ti-6Al-4V 티타늄 합금의 공구 재종에 따른 선삭 특성 (Turning Characteristics of Various Tool Materials in the Machining of Ti-6Al-4V)

  • Titanium and its alloys, due to their superior properties of high specific strength and excellent corrosion resistance, are increasingly used in living applications in the 21century. The applications in aerospace and medical industries demand machining process more frequently to obtain a desired product. But unfortunately, this material is one of the most difficult-to-cut. In the turning process of titanium alloys, the key point for successful work is to select proper tool materials and cutting conditions. This study suggests a guidance for selecting the tool materials and the cutting speeds to improve tool life and surface integrity in Ti-6Al-4V titanium turning process. The experiments investigate the change of surface roughnesses, cutting forces and flank wear with various cutting parameters of tool materials, depth of cuts and feeds. As the results, K10 type of insert tip was assured as the best for turning of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy.

  • In this paper, we examined effects by the binder in manufacturing titanium dioxide film for dye sensitized solar cell. Binder(PEG and PEO) was added the amount of 10-40wt% to commercial $TiO_2$ (P25), Respectively. All of $TiO_2$ film was showed porous structure owing to the addition of binders. But the difference of film's porosity could not be confirmed. The transmittance of $TiO_2$ film was decreased with the increase of binder's amount, generally. In case of 20wt%, however. The transmittance of $TiO_2$ films was showed the highest value.

등온 열처리시 알루미늄 다층 박막의 열적 안정성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Thermal Stability in Multi-Aluminum Thin Films during Isothermal Annealing)

  • Multi-level thin films are very important in ULSI applications because of their high electromigration resistance. This study presents the effects of titanium, titanium nitride and titanium tungsten underlayers of the stability of multi-aluminum thin films during isothermal annealing. High purity Al(99.999%) films have been electron-beam evaporated on Ti, TiN, TiW films formed on SiO2/Si (P-type(100))-wafer substrates by RF-sputtering in Ar gas ambient. The hillock growth was increased with annealing temperatures. Growth of hillocks was observed during isothermal annealing of the thin films by scanning electron microscopy. The hillock growth was believed to appear due to the recrystallization process driven by stress relaxation during isothermal annealing. Thermomigration damage was also presented in thin films by grain boundary grooving processes. It is shown that underlayers of Al/TiN/SiO2, Al/TiW/SiO2 thin films are preferrable to Al/SiO2 thin film metallization.

스테인레스 스틸 극세사와 Ti 극세사 제조 특성 평가 (Characterization of Manufacturing Process of Metal Fibers of Stainless Steel and Titanium)

  • Stainless steel fibers with a diameter of $17\;{\mu}m$ and 630 nm were produced from stainless steel wires by the drawing/annealing/exfolitation process. The suitable sheath material to draw the core stainless steel wires to fibers was the Cu coating. The low melting metal of Zn was not a suitable sheath coating. Also, an attempt was made to produce $20\;{\mu}m{\Phi}Ti$ fibers from the core titanium wires. The main obstacles in producing Ti fibers were their resistance to deformation owing to the Ti's hop structure, and high reactivity of Ti with the exfolitation solution.

  • The properties of cement mortar mixed with manganese-doped titanium dioxide nanowires (TiO2(Mn)-NWs) were investigated in this study. The TiO2(Mn)-NWs were synthesized using solvo-thermal synthesis and electro-spinning techniques. The TiO2(Mn)-NWs at weights of 1%, 2%, and 3% of the cement were respectively mixed into the cement mortar. The results showed that as the amount of TiO2(Mn)-NWs increased, the flow value of the cement mortar was decreased and the setting time of cement mortar was accelerated. Moreover, as the amount of TiO2(Mn)-NWs increased, the compressive strength of cement mortar was increased and the efficiency of acetaldehyde removal was improved.
