Thermal deformation of a machine tool structure can be evaluated from the analysis of the whole temperature field. However, it is extremely inefficient and impossible to know the whole temperature field by measuring temperatures at every point. So, the temperature estimator is required, which can predict the whole temperature field from the temperatures of just a few points. In this paper, a 1-dimensional heat transfer problem is modeled with modal analysis and state space equations. And then the state observer is designed to estimate the intensity of heat source and the whole temperature field in real time. The reliability of the estimator is verified by making comparison between solutions obtained from the proposed method and the exact solutions of examples. The proposed method is applied to the estimation of temperature distribution in a ball screw system.
Whistler mode chorus wave is considered to play a critical role in accelerating and precipitating the electrons in the outer radiation belt. In this paper we test a conventional scenario of triggering chorus using THEMIS satellite observations of waves and particles. Specifically, we test if the chorus onset is consistent with development of anisotropy in the electron phase space density (PSD). After analyzing electron PSD for 73 chorus events, we find that, for ~80 % of them, their onsets are indeed associated with development of the positive anisotropy in PSD where the pitch angle distribution of electron velocity peaks at 90 degrees. This PSD anisotropy is prominent mainly at the electron energy range of ${\leq}$ ~20 keV. Interestingly, we further find that there is sometimes a time delay among energies in the increases of the anisotropy: A development of the positive anisotropy occurs earlier by several minutes for lower energy than for an adjacent higher energy.
We present the AKARI far-infrared (FIR) all-sky maps and describe its characteristics, calibration accuracy and scientific capabilities. The AKARI FIR survey has covered 97% of the whole sky in four photometric bands, which cover continuously 50-180 micron with band central wavelengths of 65, 90, 140, and 160 microns. The data have been publicly released in 2014 (Doi et al., 2015) with improved data quality that have been achieved since the last internal data release (Doi et al., 2012). The accuracy of the absolute intensity is ${\leq}10%$ for the brighter regions. Quantitative analysis of the relative intensity accuracy and its dependence upon spatial scan numbers has been carried out. The data for the first time reveal the whole sky distribution of interstellar matter with arcminute-scale spatial resolutions at the peak of dust continuum emission, enabling us to investigate large-scale distribution of interstellar medium in great detail. The filamentary structure covering the whole sky is well traced by the all-sky maps. We describe advantages of the AKARI FIR all-sky maps for the study of interstellar matter comparing to other observational data.
In this study, positioning results that combined the code observation information of GPS and GLONASS navigation satellites were analyzed. Especially, the distribution of GLONASS satellites observed in Korea and the combined GPS/GLONASS positioning results were presented. The GNSS data received at two reference stations (GRAS in Europe and KOHG in Goheung, Korea) during a day were processed, and the mean value and root mean square (RMS) value of the position error were calculated. The analysis results indicated that the combined GPS/GLONASS positioning did not show significantly improved performance compared to the GPS-only positioning. This could be due to the inter-system hardware bias for GPS/GLONASS receivers, the selection of transformation parameters between reference coordinate systems, the selection of a confidence level for error analysis, or the number of visible satellites at a specific time.
A portable recoilless guided missile generates a strong back blast and impulsive noise at the nozzle when it launches. In the case of indoor operations, the hazard of the blast noise from a recoilless weapon increases due to limited indoor spaces. Also, the noise levels determine the operational feasibility of a weapon; therefore, it is important to predict the blast noise levels distribution in the indoor space in advance. In addition, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method generally used for fluid related simulations, requires high computing cost and time to simulate the whole domains. The domain includes both blast wave region and large and various indoor space region. Therefore, an efficient method for predicting the far-field noise level within a short time should be developed. This paper describes an analysis model for predicting the indoor noise distributions by considering the shape effect of the building within a short time. A new developed blast wave model was implemented using the noise source. Additionally, noise reflections at the closed surfaces such as walls and noise transmissions at the opened surfaces such as windows and doors were considered in calculating the noise levels. The predicted noise levels were compared with the experimental data obtained from the indoor launch test to validate the reliability of program.

This paper targets a direct and quantitative prediction of characteristics of unstable waves in a combustion chamber, which employs the governing equations derived in terms of amplification factors of flow variables. A freshly formulated nonlinear acoustic equation is obtained and the analysis of unsteady waves in a rocket engine is attempted. In the present formalism, perturbation method decomposes the variables into time-averaged part that can be obtained easily and accurately and time-varying part which is assumed to be harmonic. Excluding the use of conventional spatially sinusoidal eigenfunctions, a direct numerical solution of wave equation replaces the initial spatial distribution of standing waves and forms the nonlinear space-averaged terms. Amplification factor is also calculated independently by the time rate of changes of fluctuating variables, and is no longer an explicit function for compulsory representation. Employing only the numerical computation, major assumptions inevitably inherent, and in erroneous manner, in up to date analytical methods could be avoided. With two definitions of amplification factor, 1-D stable wave and 3-D unstable wave are examined, and clearly demonstrated the potentiality of a suggested theoretical-numerical method of combustion instability.
Water vapor in the atmosphere is an influential factor of the hydrosphere cycle, which exchanges heat through phase change and is essential to precipitation. Because of its significance in altering weather, the estimation of water vapor amount and distribution is crucial to determine the precision of the weather forecasting and the understanding of regional/local climate. It is shown that it is reliable to measure precipitable water (PW) using long baseline (500-2000km) GPS observations. However, it becomes infeasible to derive absolute PW from GPS observations in Taiwan due to geometric limitation of relatively short-baseline network. In this study, a method of deriving Near-Real-Time PW from short baseline GPS observations is proposed. This method uses a reference station to derive a regression model for wet delay, and to interpolate the difference of wet delay among stations. Then, the precipitable water is obtained by using a conversion factor derived from radiosondes. The method has been tested by using the reference station located on Mt. Ho-Hwan with eleven stations around Taiwan. The result indicates that short baseline GPS observations can be used to precisely estimate the precipitable water in near-real-time.

High energy photons and mechanical energy produced by the process of star formation result in copious FIR molecular and atomic lines, which are important coolants of the system. Photons thermally or mechanically induced could dissociate water in the dense envelope to change relative abundances among the species O, OH, and H2O. Here we analyze OH emission lines toward embedded young stellar objects (YSOs) observed as part of the Herschel open time key program, 'Dust, Ice, and Gas In Time (DIGIT)' in order to study the physical conditions of associated gas and the energy budget loaded on the OH line emission. According to our analysis of the Herschel/PACS spectra, OH emission peaks at the central spaxel in most of sources, but several sources show spatially extended emission structures. In the extended emission sources, the distribution of OH emission is correlated with that of [OI] emission and extended along the outflow directions. Considering the diversity of source properties, ratios between detected OH lines are relatively constant among sources. In addition, each OH line has strong correlation with bolometric luminosity. For detail analyses with rotation diagram and non-LTE LVG model, we present the results from GSS30-IRS1 and Elias29.

Due to the traffic congestion of the city and public transportation-oriented policies in large cities, public transportation is receiving attention and being used increasingly. However, relatively less research on the design and distribution of public transportation network and limitations in quantitative approaches have made implementation and operation practically difficult. Over- or under-supply of transportation routes caused unbalanced connectivity among areas and, thus, differences in time, expenses and metal burden of users traveling the same distances. On the other hand, the Space Syntax theory, originally designed to calculate the connectivity of urban or architectural spaces, helps generate quantitative connectivity of whole space simply based on the spacial structure. This study modified the original Space Syntax algorithm to fit the public transportation problem and showed how it is applied to a transportation network by creating an artificial GIS network.

We have measured the space charge distribution and PD patterns simultaneously in XLPE under AC voltages by modified PEA method in order to investigate the effect of space charge on PD patterns in XLPE with air-gap. From the experimental results, we found that the dynamic space charge accumulated on the surface of XLPE due to the PD dominantly affects the PD pattern in the dielectric-barrier structure and governs the voltage across the air-gap. Moreover, the space charge formed by applying DC voltage still remained after applying AC voltage, which means that the space charge formed during DC strength test is likely to be fatal to the long-time AC insulating characteristics of HV equipments. On the other hand, the PD patterns was much influenced by the pre-formed space charge by DC application. Therefore, it is possible to detect the effects of space charge by monitoring the infinitesimal change of PD patterns before and after DC strength.
