  • This study is a research based on an existing analysis that peak values of unit hydrograph are variant according to rainfall intensity in a watershed. Differently from the fundamental assumption that an unit hydrograph is time-invariant in a watershed a variant unit hydrograph to rainfall intensity by storms is defined and applied into rainfall events, which produces out runoff hydrograph for an examination. Peak flow and time to peak of unit hydrograph used for an application are obtained from the relation equation with rainfall intensity developed by a previous study reviewed, and its shape is made by Nash unit hydrograph which is determined by the peak values. For the purpose of a comparison an invariant unit hydrograph is defined as Nash model obtained from averaged peak values of unit hydrograph which is derived by 26 rainfall storms. Peak flow and time to peak of flood hydrograph developed respectively by variant unit hydrograph with rainfall intensity and an averaged unit hydrograph are compared to those of the observed hydrograph. With comparing both hydrographs calculated by averaged unit hydrograph and revised unit hydrograph to observed hydrograph it is shown the peak flow and time to peak of hydrograph calculated by time-invariant unit hydrograph revised in this study are closer to those of observed hydrograph than those calculated by averaged unit hydrograph.

  • The underlying ground state of a railway plays a significant role in maintaining the integrity of the overlying concrete slab and ultimately supporting the train load. While effective nondestructive tests have been used to evaluate the rail track system, they can only be performed during non-operating time due to the stress wave generated by active sources. In this study, finite element numerical simulations are conducted to investigate the feasibility of detecting unfavorable substructure conditions by using a moving train load. First, a train load module is developed by converting the train load into time-variant equivalent forces. The moving forces based on the shape functions are applied at the nodes. A parametric study that takes into account the bonding state and the train class is then performed. All the synthetic signals obtained from numerical simulations are analyzed at the frequency domain using a Fast Fourier transform (FFT) and at the time-frequency domain using a Short-Time Fourier transform (STFT). The presence of a void condition amplifies the acceleration amplitude and the vibration response. This study confirms the feasibility of using a moving train load to systematically evaluate a rail track system.

  • Malware is generally recognized as a computer program that penetrates another computer system and causes malicious behavior intended by the developer. In cyberspace, it is also used as a cyber weapon to attack adversary. The most important factor that a malware must have as a cyber weapon is that it must achieve its intended purpose before being detected by the other's detection system. It requires a lot of time and expertise to create a single malware to avoid the other's detection system. We propose the framework that automatically generates variant malware when a binary code type malware is input using the DCM technique. In this framework, the sample malware was automatically converted into variant malware, and it was confirmed that this variant malware was not detected in the signature-based malware detection system.

  • Data structure was designed not only to estimate LCC but also to analyze time-variant reliability index of plate girder bridges. Information model for data structure was categorized into cost information, cost variable information, user cost information, and reliability analysis information according to the characteristic of data. EXPRESS language of STEP was adopted to describe the data structure for the electronic representation of LCC information. The suitability of the developed data structure was verified by estimating LCC and analyzing time-variant reliability index of a plate girder bridge considering corrosion on the basis of the constructed test database.

  • On wind turbine generators, the speed and volume of the wind affect the turbine angle speed which finally determines the output level of the electric power. However it is very difficult to forecast correctly the future power output and quality based on previous fixed sampling methods. This paper proposes a variable sampling method based on Buneman frequency estimation algorithm to reflect the variations of the frequency and amplitude on wind power outputs. The proposed method is also verified through the performance test by comparing with the results from previous fixed sampling methods and the real measurement data.

  • A far field approximate solution of the slowly varying force on a 3 dimensional offshore structure in gravity ocean waves is presented. The first order potential, or at least the far field form of the Kochin function, of each frequency wave is assumed to be known. The momentum flux of the fluid domain is formulated to find the time variant force acting on the floating body in bichromatic waves. The second order difference frequency force is identified and extracted from the time variant force. The final solution is expressed as the circular integration of the product of Kochin functions. The limiting form of the slowly varying force is identical to the mean drift force. It shows that the slowly varying force components caused by the body disturbance potential can be evaluated at the far field.

  • This paper presents a new global intensity compensation method for extracting moving object in a visual surveillance system by compensating time variant intensity changes of background region. The method that compensates a little changes of intensity due to time variant illumination change and automatic gain control of camera is called global intensity compensation. The proposed method expresses global intensity change with a mapping table to describe complex form of intensity change while the previous method models this global intensity change with a simple function as a straight line. The proposed method builds the mapping table by calculating the cross histogram between two images and then by selecting an initial point for generating the mapping table by using Hough transform applied to the cross histogram image. Then starting from the initial point, the mapping table is generated according to the proposed algorithm based on the assumption that reflects the characteristic of global intensity change. Experimental results show that the proposed method makes the compensation error much smaller than the previous GIC method

  • For the purpose of equalisation of rapidly time variant channels, We derive a novel adaptive algorithm the amplitude Banded LMS(ABLMS), which implements a non-linear adaptation based on a coefficient matrix. Then we develop the ABLMS algorithm as the adaptation procedure for a linear transversal equalise.(LTE) and a decision feedback equaliser(DFE) where a parallel adaption scheme is deployed.

  • There are some rebate programs for energy efficient appliances, which are lightings, vending machines, ASDs, motors, transformers, pumps, to reduce national energy consumption in Korea. In existing studies, some diffusion models have been applied to the rebate program case. But those studies could not consider various cases in duration, amounts, whether or not, of rebates. Hence, new diffusion models considering the time-variant diffusion status are proposed for high-efficient appliance rebate programs in this paper. The case study shows the application of these model into some high-efficient appliances.
