  • Military wargame simulation models must support the HLA in order to facilitate interoperability with other simulations, and using parallel simulation engines offer efficiency in reducing system overhead generated by propelling interoperability. However, legacy military simulation model engines process events using sequential event-driven method. This is due to problems generated by parallel processing such as synchronous reference to global data domains. Additionally. using legacy simulation platforms result in insufficient utilization of multiple CPUs even if a multiple CPU system is under use. Therefore, in this paper, we propose conversing the simulation engine to an object model-based parallel simulation engine to ensure military wargame model's improved system processing capability, synchronous reference to global data domains, external simulation time processing, and the sequence of parallel-processed events during a crash recovery. The converted parallel simulation engine is designed and implemented to enable parallel execution on a multiple CPU system (SMP).

  • In this study, sequential mixing model (SMM) was proposed based on the Taylor's theory which can be summarized as the fact that longitudinal advection and transverse diffusion occur independently and then the balance between the longitudinal shear and transverse mixing maintains. The numerical simulation of the model were performed for cases of different mixing time and transverse velocity distribution, and the results were compared with the solutions of 1-D longitudinal dispersion model (1-D LDM) and 2-D advection-dispersion model (2-D ADM). As a result it was confirmed that SMM embodies the Taylor's theory well. By the comparison between SMM and 2-D ADM, the relationship between the mixing time and the transverse diffusion coefficient was evaluated, and thus SMM can integrate 2-D ADM model as well as 1-D LDM model and be an explanatory model which can represents the shear flow dispersion in a visible way. In this study, the predicting equation of the longitudinal dispersion coefficient was developed by fitting the simulation results of SMM to the solution of 1-D LDM. The verification of the proposed equation was performed by the application to the 38 sets of field data. The proposed equation can predict the longitudinal dispersion coefficient within reliable accuracy, especially for the river with small width-to-depth ratio.

  • Recently, as the development system has become larger, sequential simulation methods have become impossible to verify systems that take a long time or require real time results. Therefore, a study of a distributed simulation system that simulates several processes has been conducted. In order to simulate real-time systems, efficient data exchange between distributed systems is required. Data Distribution Service is a data-oriented communication middleware proposed by Object Management Group and provides efficient data exchange and various QoS. However, in a large-scale distributed simulation environment distributed over a wide area, there is a problem of Participant Discovery and QoS guarantee due to domain separation in data exchange. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a DDS/SDN architecture that can guaranteed QoS and effective Participant Discovery in an SDN-based network.

  • In this study, we report simulation results of single-panel LCOS (liquid crystal on silicon). Reflective LCOS microdisplays are widely used in various projection and near-eye application. For one panel system, liquid crystal response time is an important variable. The panel must switch fast enough to support the display of Field color sequential with high field rates. In order to have fast response and good contrast, a vertical alignment (VA) cell was used in this study. With suitable selection on LC parameters like temperature, viscosity, elastic constant and birefringence, it is possible to get response time of around 2ms from a 2.0 um-thick vertical alignment cell. This result also indicates an ease of production control on 2.0 um cells than 1.0 um cells.

  • In this paper, we present an optimal hardware implementation for preprocessing of a person identification algorithm utilizing vein pattern of dorsal surface of hand. For the vein pattern recognition, the computational burden of the algorithm lies mainly in the preprocessing of the input images, especially in lowpass filtering. we could reduce the identification time to one tenth by hardware design of the lowpass filter compared to sequential computations. In terms of the computation accuracy, the simulation results show that the CSD code provided an optimized coefficient value with about 91.62% accuracy in comparison with the floating point implementation of current coefficient value of the lowpass filter. The post-simulation of a VHDL model has been performed by using the ModelSim$^{TM}$. The implemented chip operates at 20MHz and has the operational speed of 55.107㎳.㎳.

  • This paper presents a novel random sampling method for generation adequacy assessment including wind-power. Although a time sequential sampling has advantages than a random sampling in its assessment results, it takes long assessment time. Therefore, an effective random sampling method for generation adequacy assessment is highly recommended to get specific reliability indices quickly. The proposed method is based on the Monte-Carlo simulation with state sampling and it can be applied to generation adequacy assessment with other intermittent power sources.

  • The distribution cost increases constantly because of the growth of yield, globalization of accounts and the generalization of e-commerce. This paper is concerned with scheduling on the allocation of workers to maximize the amount of order process in warehouse logistics system. The problem is to determine the number of operators in each process by the sequential time zone. We considered that the number of operators is restricted to the current level and also the process time is changed by putting some resources into the process. In each stage, we suggest some considerations for the allocation of workers and estimate the maximum amount of order process of the alternatives. We analyzed the alternatives using simulation s/w Arena with real cases.

  • In this paper, a study on task assignment strategies for a complex real-time network system is presented. Firstly, two task assignment strategies are proposed to improve previous strategies. The proposed strategies assign tasks with meeting end-to-end real-time constraints, and also with optimizing system utilization through period modulation of the tasks. Consequently, the strategies aim at the optimizationto optimize of system performance with while still meeting real-time constraints. The proposed task assignment strategies are devised using the genetic algorithmswith heuristic real-time constraints in the generation of new populations. The strategies are differentiated by the optimization method of the two objectives-meeting end-to-end real-time constraints and optimizing system utilization: the first one has sequential genetic algorithm routines for the objectives, and the second one has one multiple objective genetic algorithm routine to find a Pareto solution. Secondly, the performances of the proposed strategies and a well-known existing task assignment strategy using the BnB(Branch and Bound) optimization are compared with one other through some simulation tests. Through the comparison of the simulation results, the most adequate task assignment strategies are proposed for some as system requirements-: the optimization of system utilization, the maximization of running tasktasks, and the minimization of the number of network node nodesnumber for a network system.

  • Ladder Diagram(LD) or Sequential Function Chart(SFC) is used for the design of complex modern control system with Programmable logic controller(PLC). LD is the most widely utilized among PLC standard language. But recently, SFC is used frequently. SFC is very easy to grasp the sequential flow of control logic but is difficult for describing combinational logic. When the interrupt factor is occurred, the main program is stopped. And after the interrupt program is completed, the main program is restart. Therefore the more complex the interrupt program, the main program is interrupted downtime will be that much longer. In this paper, we propose the method for interrupt implementation without the dwell time of the main program by SFC language and confirm his feasibility through the simulation.

  • In this paper, An Ultra Fast Acquisition Algorithm of low transmission rate ultra-wideband(UWB) systems for car positioning and traffic light controling is proposed. Since the acquisition algorithms for CDMA system are not fast enough to access the low transmission rate UWB systems, the new ultra fast acquisition scheme which can be implemented with low cost and simplified circuit is required. The proposed algorithm adopted the Recurrent Sequential Estimation scheme and trinomial M-sequence. Therefore, The proposed scheme can reduce the average acquisition time in $1\~3{\mu}sec$ with simple circuit, even for the UWB systems which use long pseudo-noise(PN) sequence and transmit low power below the FCC EIRP emission limits. The simulation results for the average acquisition time of the proposed scheme are compared with the ones of the existing acquisition schemes.
