This paper proposes a GPU-based modeling and rendering of 3D clouds using procedural functions. The formation of clouds is based on modified noise function made with fbm(Fractional Brownian Motion). Those noise values turn into densities of droplets of liquid water, which is a critical parameter for forming the three different types of clouds. At the rendering stage, the algorithm applies the ray marching technique to decide the colors of cloud using density values obtained from the noise function. In this process, all lighting attenuation and scattering are calculated by physically based manner. Once we have the clouds, they are blended on the sky, which is also rendered physically. We also make the clouds moving in the sky by the wind force. All algorithms are implemented and tested on GPU using GLSL.

In this paper, we present a marching-on-in-degree(MOD) finite difference method(FDM) based on the Helmholtz wave equation for analyzing transient electromagnetic responses in a general dispersive media. The two issues related to the finite difference approximation of the time derivatives and the time consuming convolution operations are handled analytically using the properties of the Laguerre functions. The basic idea here is that we fit the transient nature of the fields, the flux densities, the permittivity with a finite sum of orthogonal Laguerre functions. Through this novel approach, not only the time variable can be decoupled analytically from the temporal variations but also the final computational form of the equations is transformed from finite difference time-domain(FDTD) to a finite difference formulation through a Galerkin testing. Representative numerical examples are presented for transient wave propagation in general Debye, Drude, and Lorentz dispersive medium.

This paper deals with the FEM analysis of nonlinear sloshing of incompressible, invicid and irrotational flow in two dimensional rectangular tank. We use laplace equation based on potential theory as governing equation. For large amplitude sloshing motion, kinematic and dynamic free surface conditions derived from Bernoulli equation are applied. This problem is solved by FEM using 9-node elements. For the time integration and accurate velocity calculation, we introduce predictor-corrector time marching scheme and least square method. Also, numerical stability in tracking of free surface is obtained by direct calculation of free surface location to time variation. Numerical results of sloshing induced by harmonic excitations, while comparing with those of linear theory and references, prove the accuracy and stability. After verification of our program, we analyze sloshing response characteristics to the fluid height and the excitation amplitude.

The three-dimensional multi-layer computer simulation technology for tidal current developed in the previous study is updated to a new version. many improvements are achieved by following changes : (1) No-reflection condition is adopted instead of no-gradient condition as an open boundary condition. (2) Time marching algorithm is changed so that velocity and pressure(surface movement) might be salved in turn at different time step (3) Convection term in equation of motion is estimated by upwind differencing scheme instead of central differencing. The stability is improved considerably and the steady state is achieved within 2 tidal periods which is about 3 times shorter than that of the old version. Moreover, fluctuations in time disappeared by introducing the new time marching technique. An application to the real near shore area(near Inchon harbor) is performed by the new version. Simulated results are compared with those by the simulation total developed in the University of Tokyo. Validity and effectiveness of the two simulation technologies are chocked through the comparative research works.
This article is concerned with the presentation of a time-domain BEM approach applied to the solution of the scalar wave equation for 2D problems. The basic idea is quite simple: the basic variables of the problem at time $t_n$ (potential and flux) are computed with the results related to the potential and to its time derivative at time $t_{n-1}$ playing the role of "initial conditions". This time-marching scheme needs the computation of the potential and its time derivative at all boundary nodes and internal points, as well as the entire discretization of the domain. The convolution integrals of the standard time-domain BEM formulation, however, are not computed; the matrices assembled, only at the initial time interval, are those related to the potential, flux and to the potential time derivative. Two examples are presented and discussed at the end of the article, in order to verify the accuracy and potentialities of the proposed formulation.

Helical tip vortex is known as stable vortex structure, however the specific frequency component of far wake perturbation induces the vortex pairing in hover and axial flight. It is expected that the tip vortex pairing phenomena may happen in transition flight and very low advance ratio flight so that inflow may be most nonuniform in the low advance ratio flight. The objectives of this paper are that a tip-vortex instability during the transition from hover into very low advance ratio forward flight is numerically predicted to understand a physics by using a time-marching free-wake method. To achieve the objectives, numerical method is firstly validated in typical axial and forward flights cases. Present scheme with trim routine can predict airloads and inflow distribution of forward flight with good accuracy. Then, the transition flight condition is calculated. The rotor used in this wake calculation is a small-scale AH-1G model. By using a tip-vortex trajectory tracking method, the tip-vortex pairing process are clearly observed in transient flight($\mu$=0.03) and disappears at a slightly higher advance ratio($\mu$=0.05). According to the steady flight simulation at $\mu$=0.03, it is confirmed the tip-vortex pairing process is continued in the rear part of rotor disk and not occurs in the front part. Time averaged inflow in this case is predicted as smooth distribution.
We study the incomprssible Navier Stokes equations for the flow inside contraction geometry. The governing equations are expressed in the vorticity-stream function formulations. A rectangular computational domain is arised by elliptic grid generation technique. The numerical solution is based on a technique of automatic numerical generation of acurvilinear coordinate system by transforming the governing equation into computational plane. The transformed equations are approximated using central differences and solved simultaneously by successive over relaxation iteration. The time dependent of the vorticity equation solved by using explicit marching procedure. We will apply the technique on several irregular-shapes.
This paper describes the flow analysis of the automobile with crosswind effects of $15^{\circ},\;30^{\circ}\;and\;45^{\circ}$ of yaw angle. The governing equations of the 3-D unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved by the iterative time marching scheme. The Chimera grid technique has been applied to efficiently simulate the flow around the side-view mirror. The A- and C-pillar vortex and other flow phenomena around the ground vehicle are evidently shown.

In this Paper, we propose an accurate and stable solution of the transient electromagnetic response from three-dimensional arbitrarily shaped conducting objects by using a time domain magnetic field integral equation. This method does not utilize the conventional marching-on in time (MOT) solution. Instead we solve the time domain integral equation by expressing the transient behavior of the induced current in terms of temporal expansion functions with decaying exponential functions and Laguerre·polynomials. Since these temporal expansion functions converge to zero as time progresses, the transient response of the induced current does not have a late time oscillation and converges to zero unconditionally. To show the validity of the proposed method, we solve a time domain magnetic field integral equation for three closed conducting objects and compare the results of Mie solution and the inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) of the solution obtained in the frequency domain.
A numerical study of axisymmetric rocket main nozzle flow has been accomplished. The CSCM upwind flux difference splitting method with an iterative time marching scheme having second order accuracy in time and space has been used to simulate unsteady flow characteristics in an axisymmetric rocket main nozzle. Though the pressure vary at nozzle inlet with the lapse of time, Mach No. and the density were not changed significontly compared with the temperature. Specific heat ratio $\gamma$=1.134 predicted higher temperature at nozzle throat and exit and nondimensional thrust coefficients at exit than specific heat ratio $\gamma$=1.4 did.
