Survey on the Residential Standby Power Consumption in Korea (한국의 가정용 대기전력 소모현황 조사연구)

  • Standby power is the electricity consumed in an electrical equipment when it is switched-off or not performing its main function. Due to the acceleration of digital electronics and home networking, standby power use tends to increase rapidly year by year. In this paper, standby power consumption in residential sector in Korea has been surveyed and reported for the first time. Totally 825 pieces of electrical equipments that consume standby power in 53 households were investigated. The average standby power per equipment and total standby power per household were 3.66W and 57.0W, respectively. Annual standby power consumption per household was estimated 306kWh; which means the standby power consumption in residential sector in Korea can be estimated 4.6TWh a year representing 1.67 percent of total electrical consumption (274TWh).

A Quantitative Study of Grinding Characteristics on Particle Size and Grinding Consumption Energy by Stirred Ball Mill (입자경과 분쇄소비동력의 고찰에 의한 교반볼밀 분쇄특성의 정량적 연구)

  • A series of wet grinding experiments have been carried out using a stirred ball mill to systematically investigate consideration of grinding characteristics. The particle size distribution and median diameter of the grinding consumption power for a given grinding time were considered. Also, the effect of grinding aids on particle size and grinding consumption energy defined as the summation of grinding power was investigated. The grinding aids had influence on the smaller products size and decrease grinding consumption energy because the function of grinding aids were to be attribute to the prevention of agglomeration and ball and grinding chamber wall coating of sample powder. The grinding process seemed to be controlled by the force of agglomeration of the ground products. It was demonstrated that the particle size and grinding consumption energy could be more decreased by the addition of grinding aids.

  • In microholographic data storage system (MDSS), compact recording is required to achieve high capacity.[1] When the data is recorded, neighbor monomer is also affected by reaction at the focal point.[2,3] This unintended process caused more monomer consumption and degradation of total capacity. To avoid this extra consumption of dynamic range, it is required to define the effective dynamic range for MDSS. In this paper, we experimentally investigate the relation between dynamic range consumption and micro grating formation. Dynamic range consumption was monitored by real time read-out system. Micrograting was recorded with different consumption ratio and compared by diffraction efficiency of track direction. Finally, we define suitable dynamic range for MDSS.

  • The coffee industry continues to grow steadily due to the spread of coffee and changes in consumer awareness. Once upon a time, instant coffee was common, People today have distinct personal preferences As consumption needs for favorite foods are segmented, ways to enjoy coffee are diversifying. This study was conducted through analysis of consumption changes for specialty coffee as a changed issue of COVID-19 The goal is to present a vision for the future of the specialty coffee industry. As a research method, text mining through big data analysis was conducted to extract and analyze factors affecting the change in specialty coffee consumption. As a result of the study, we judged that specialty coffee is consumed by using a drip tool that allows you to easily enjoy coffee at home after Corona 19. Therefore, hand drips used in home cafes were found to play a central role in the change in specialty coffee consumption.

An Analysis of Clothing Consumption Expenditure Pattern in Urban Households (도시가정의 피복류 소비지출분석)

  • This paper is to determine the clothing and footwear of urban household consumption expenditures and an analysis of historical data from relevant literature. Particularly, time-series and cross sectional analysis techniques are adopted in analysing the patterns of clothing and footwear consumption expenditures of urban households. Finally, this paper estimates consumption expenditures in the future by comparing these revealed data with the Korea and Japan. Annual Report on the family Income and Expenditure Survey and M.R.A. in S.P.S.S. were used. The results can be summarized as follows: 1. The proportion of the clothing and footwear expenditure has decreased with the increase of income in urban household during 1976-1987. 2.1) Household consumption function by Income group, the Lower group is higher than the other group. 2) Household consumption function by Occupation of household head. Income elasticity estimation in administrative managerial workers is higher than the other group. 3) Household consumption function by Family size. Income elasticity estimation in 6 Persons is higher than the other group. But 4 Persons is higher in 1986. 4) Household consumption function by Age of household head. Income elasticity estimation in 50 Years and over is higher than the other group. 3. Comparison of characteristics of clothing and footwear consumption expenditures in Korea and Japan were M.R.A. Generally, the priority correlation order for Korea is Outwear, Sweaters and Shirt, Other clothing. For Japan, the order is Sweaters and Shirts, Underwear, Services.

  • The consumption of mobile device batteries which are limited resources is an important criterion when circuit designers analyze and evaluate circuits. For this reason, researchers conducted researches with different models of battery consumption to analyze power consumption of mobile devices. The battery consumption model generation techniques have various characteristics depending on availability of sensors, run-time model generation, and models for using in verification and testing. However, there is lack of comparison and analysis between varied battery consumption model generation methods. In this research, we compare and evaluate the analysis methods which have been studied so far to support the circuit investigation for circuit designers. Finally, we suggest the direction of researches in battery consumption analysis using the comparison result.

  • This paper proposes a real time pricing model for smart grid considering consumers' behavior, real time price elasticity, and exogenous price. Based on the proposed model, we found the weight of utility over cost is the most sensitive factor compared to other factors. Also, if the electricity price is set to be changed too sensitively to energy consumption, it is warned that real time pricing sometimes can cause increment of peak-time demand and volatility. Finally, real time pricing could be less efficient when the difference between the maximum and the minimum consumption level is small.

  • In this Paper, we propose an Energy Efficient Time Synchronization technique based on WUSB (Wireless USB) over WBAN (Wireless Body Area Networks) protocol required for Wearable Computer systems. For this purpose, the proposed Time Synchronization algorithm minimizes power consumption and estimates time information with accuracy. It is executed on the basis of WUSB over WBAN protocol at each sensor node comprising peripherals of a wearable computer system. It minimizes power consumption by exchanging time stamp packets and forming a hierarchical structure.

Effects of Drying Methods Based on Exhaust Cycle and Time on the Quality and Drying of Red Peppers

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop a system to optimize drying potential energy of the exhausted hot air by changing relative humidity of the air. This study modified the conventional drying method into a drying method changing exhaust cycle and time in order to control the relative humidity of the exhausted hot air during drying process. Method: A valve on the vent was controlled according to a preset time to change the exhaust cycle and time. This study analyzed the influence of the two different types of drying method on the drying characteristics, required energy, and quality of the dried peppers: conventional drying method exhausting hot air continuously and new drying method controlling exhaust cycle and time. Results: Drying characteristics based on exhaust time showed that drying time increased with exhaust time, and specific energy consumption was reduced by 28% from 18.39 MJ/kg (conventional method) to 13.24 MJ/kg when exhaust time was set to one minute. Drying characteristics based on heating time showed that drying time increased with heating time and specific energy consumption was reduced by 30% from 18.39 MJ/kg (conventional method) to 12.87 MJ/kg when exhaust time was set to 22 minutes. Drying characteristics based on exhaust cycle showed that drying time increased with exhaust cycle, and specific energy consumption was reduced by 31% from 18.39 MJ/kg (conventional method) to 12.69 MJ/kg when exhaust time was set to one minute and exhaust cycle was set to 22 minutes before drying and 40 minutes after drying. The quality of the dried red peppers showed that capsaicin, color, and sugar content were high as 34.87 mg/100g, 66.33, and 11.87%, respectively, when exhaust time was set to one minute and exhaust cycle was set to 22 minutes before drying and 40 minutes after drying. Conclusions: In order to utilize the drying potential energy of the exhausted air during drying process, the conventional drying method was modified into the drying method controlling exhaust cycle and time. The results showed that drying with exhaust cycle of one minute was more efficient in terms of drying time, required energy, and quality of the dried peppers than the one with exhaust cycle of 20~40 minutes.

  • Currently, studies have show that the network related energy consumption are increasing. and part of overall energy consumption of our society are too. So, that is important to look for energy-efficient network applications and protocols. A most of network energy consumption are due to network edge devices. in this paper, in order to cut down the emissions of carbon dioxide from ICT business, which contributes 2% of the global energy consumption, it is necessary to understand energy consumption in peer-to-peer system. In this paper, in this paper we propose a architecture based on the introduction of a p2p proxy. The model is analyzed analytically and numerically to reveal how these factors influence the overall power consumption in both steady state and flash crowd information exchange scenarios. Specifically, our results show that the proxy-based solution can provide up to 50% reduction in the energy consumption and, at the same time, a significant reduction in the average file download time.
