  • This paper presents a new postprocessing method to eliminate the false minutiae, that caused by the skelectonization of fingerprint image, and an image compression method using Isometric Self Organizing Map(ISOSOM). Since the SOM has simple structure, fast encoding time, and relatively good classification characteristics, many image processing areas adopt this such as image compression and pattern classification, etc. But, the SOM shows limited performances in pattern classification because of it's single layer structure. To maximize the performance of the pattern classification with small code book, we a lied the Isometric SOM with the isometry of the fractal theory. The proposed Isometric SOM postprocessing and compression algorithm of fingerprint image showed good performances in the elimination of false minutiae and the image compression simultaneously.

  • Image segmentation is very important technique as preprocessing. It is used for various applications such as object recognition, computer vision, object based image compression. In this paper, a method which segments the multidimensional image using a hierarchical histogram approach, is proposed. The hierarchical histogram approach is a method that decomposes the multi-dimensional situation into multi levels of 1 dimensional situations. It has the advantage of the rapid and easy calculation of the histogram, and at the same time because the histogram is applied at each level and not as a whole, it is possible to have more detailed partitioning of the situation.

  • Low bit rate image/video coding is essential for many visual communication applications. When bit rates become low, most compression algorithms yield visually blocking artifacts that highly degrade the perceptual quality, and post-processing approaches provide one attractive solution. In this paper, we provide simple and very efficient blocking artifacts reduction method using constrained random value addition. Our method is simple enough to be used for real-time post-processing of video.

  • In the linear transformation method, the original image is divided into a plurality of range blocks, and a partial transform system for finding an optimal domain block existing in the image for each range block is used to adjust the performance of the compression ratio and the picture quality, The nonlinear transformation method uses only the rotation transformation among eight shuffle transforms. Since the search is performed only in the limited domain block, the coding time is faster than the linear transformation method of searching the domain block for any block in the image, Since the optimal domain block for the range block can not be selected in the image, the performance may be lower than other methods. Therefore, the nonlinear transformation method improves the performance by increasing the approximation degree of the brightness coefficient conversion instead of selecting the optimal domain block, The smaller the size of the block, the higher the PSNR value, The higher the compression ratio is increased groups were quadtree block divided to encode the image at best.

  • The purpose of the paper is to enable a format transcoding between a heterogeneous compression format in a real time, and to enhance the compression ratio using characteristics of the compressed frame. In this paper, for the heterogeneous format transcoding, we tried to transcode from MPEG2 having a lower compression ratio to H.263 having a higher compression ratio. After analyzing MPEG 2 bit stream and H.263 bit stream of the same original video, we found that the number of intra coded macro blocks in MPEG 2 data is much higher than the number of the intra coded macro blocks in H.263 data. In the process of P frame generation, a intra coded macro block is generated when a motion estimation value representing the similarity between the previous frame and current frame does not meet a threshold. Especially the intra coded macro block has a great impact on the compression ratio. Hence the paper, we tried to minimize the number of intra coded macro blocks in H.263 data stream which is transcoded from MPEG 2 in a compressed domain. For the purpose, we propose a guided search method for transcoding the INTRA coded block into INTER coded block using the information about motion vectors surrounding the intra macro block in order to minimize the complexity of the motion estimation process. The experimental results show that the transcoding of MPEG 2 into H.263 can be done in a real time successfully.

  • Sands distributed in Jeju island's coastal areas, Korea, can be classified as silicate sand derived from volcanic rock, carbonate sand derived from shells, and mixed sands containing both silicate and carbonate sands. These three types of sands typically exist in Jeju coastal areas. Samples of silicate, carbonate and mixed sands were obtained from Samyang beach, Gimnyeong beach, and Jeju harbor area, respectively. Compression tests were conducted to assess the compression characteristics of these sands. As a result of these tests, each sand showed different behaviors. For Samyang beach sand, it appeared that initial compression is a larger than the other two sands. For Cimnyeong and Jeju harbor sands, however, the additional compression occurred after initial compression. This could result from the crushing, shattering, and rearrangement of sand particles. In addition, settlement behavior of Jeju harbor ground according to the construction stages was analyzed using the measured data. It showed that in addition to the initial elastic compression, a considerable additional compression occurred with time. The settlements of Jeju harbor ground were predicted by using the elastic settlement calculation methods (empirical methods) and the compression test method. The empirical methods, which did not consider the crushing, shattering, and rearrangement of particles could show smaller result than that occurring actually.

  • This paper suggests techniques to enhance coding time which is a problem in traditional fractal compression and to improve fidelity of reconstructed images by determining fractal coefficient through adaptive selection of block approximation formula. First, to reduce coding time, we construct a linear list of domain blocks of which characteristics is given by their luminance and variance and then we control block searching time according to the first permissible threshold value. Next, when employing three-level block partition, if a range block of minimum partition level cannot find a domain block which has a satisfying approximation error, There applied to 24-bpp color image compression and image techniques. The result did not occur a loss in the image quality of the image when using the encoding method, such as almost to the color in the RGB image compression rate and image quality, such as gray-level images and showed good.

  • Sine digital signal processing for motion pictures requires huge amount of data computation to store, manipulate and transmit, more effective data compression is necessary. Therefore, the ITU-T recommended H.26x as data compression standards for digital motion pictures. The data compression method that eliminates time redundancies by motion estimation using relationship between picture frames has been widely used. Most video conding systems employ block matching algorithm for the motion estimation and compensation, and the algorithm is based on the minimun value of cast functions. Therefore, fast search algorithm rather than full search algorithm is more effective in real time low data rates encodings such as H.26x. In this paper, motion estimation employing the Nearest-Neighbors algorithm is designed to reduce search time using FPGA, coded in VHDL, and simulated and verified using Xilink Foundation.

  • We investigated effects of bonding conditions on the peel strength of rigid printed circuit board (RPCB)/ flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) joints bonded using a thermo-compression bond method, The electrodes on the FPCB were coated with Sn by a dipping process. We confirmed that the bonding temperature and bonding time strongly affected the bonding configuration and strength of the joints. Also, the peel strength is affected by dipping conditions; the optimum dipping condition was found to be temperature of $270^{\circ}C$ and time of 1s. The bonding strength linearly increased with increasing bonding temperature and time until $280^{\circ}C$ and 10s. The fracture energy calculated from the F-x (Forcedisplacement) curve during a peel test was the highest at bonding temperature of $280^{\circ}C$.
