  • Project Managers want to reduce the cost and the completion time of the project simultaneously. But the project completion time tends to increase as the project cost is reduced, and the project cost has a tendency to increase as the project completion time is reduced. In this paper, the resource constrained project scheduling problem with multiple crashable modes is considered. An exact solution method for finding the efficient solution set and the computational results are introduced.

  • This paper deals with a one-searcher multi-target search problem where targets with different detection priorities move in Markov processes in each discrete time over a given space search area, and the total number of search time intervals is fixed. A limited search resource is available in each search time interval and an exponential detection function is assumed. The searcher can obtain a target detection award, if detected, which represents the detection priority of target and is non-increasing with time. The objective is to establish the optimal search plan which allocates the search resource effort over the search areas in each time interval in order to maximize the total detection award. In the analysis, the given problem is decomposed into intervalwise individual search problems each being treated as a single stationary target problem for each time interval. An associated iterative procedure is derived to solve a sequence of stationary target problems. The computational results show that the proposed algorithm guarantees optimality.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify poorly understood factors related to the recent rapid decline in fertility in Korean society. Along with Becker's child demand theory, personal psychological traits, such as independence, nurturance, and affiliation, were given special attention in this study. We examine the processes of resource transfers between married women and their parents on childbearing intention in order to verify the effects of both factors. Five hundred and seventy-six women in their early stage of marriage from the 2009 wave of the National Survey of Marriage and Childbirth were analyzed. Main results of the study are as follows. First, Becker's child demand theory is not supported. Instead, the women who were not given economic support from their parents in getting a residence at the time of their wedding turned out to be more willing to have a child, potentially because they were more independent. Second, the women who provided caretaking and emotional support to their parents had higher childbearing intentions, potentially because they were more nurturing. In conclusion, these personal psychological variables are important in understanding the childbearing behavior of women. We suggest that the government should pay more attention to the micro-personal factors raised in this study when executing policies to reverse the current trend of low fertility.

  • This study compared full-time housewives' propensity for TV home shopping addiction by different socioeconomic, psychological, and purchase-related characteristics. And it identified the factors that influenced full-time housewives' TV home shopping addiction. The data were obtained from a questionnaire completed by full-time housewives (n=225) lived in Seoul and were analyzed by t-tests, ANOVA, and a multiple regression analysis. The findings of this study were as follows: First, full-time housewives' propensity for TV home shopping addiction was higher in the relatively old aged group. Those who graduated from graduate schools had lower scores in the scale of TV shopping addiction. Also, middle income group showed higher propensity for addictive buying. • This research proposes a resource allocation model of Data QC (Quality Control) activities using COQ (Cost of Quality). The model has been developed based on a series of research efforts such as COQ classifications, weight determination of Data QC activities, and an aggregation approach between COQ and Data QC activities. In the first stage of this research, COQ was divided into the four typical classifications (prevention costs, appraisal costs, internal failure costs and external failure costs) through the opinions from five professionals in Data QC. In the second stage, the weights of Data QC activities were elicited from the field professionals. An aggregation model between COQ and Data QC activities has been then proposed to help the practitioners make a resource allocation strategy. DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) was utilized for locating efficient decision points. The proposed resource allocation model has been validated using the case of Korea national defense information system. This research is unique in that it applies the concept of COQ to the data management for the first time and that it demonstrates a possible contribution to a real world case for budget allocation of national defense information.

  • The purposes of this study were to analyze the needs for the balance of work-family and to provide the related policies for dual worker family. We focused on the life area of educare and school. Data were collected from 197 working mothers who have 1 or more children under age 10. The findings were: 1) after-school programs, holidays on every alternate Saturday, arbitrary no school days were not appropriate to the working parents' everyday life patterns, so the paradigm and practical conditions should be adapted to the needs of working parents. 2) the most working parents depended on the kindergarden, but the parents' satisfaction with the quality of service, time duration, the human resource of educare teacher was not sufficient, so these issues should be discussed more profoundly.

  • Disaster prevention resources consist of persons, equipments, goods, and facilities. Specially, equipments and goods are internally managed in the regional office, and may be leased to the inter-offices. National Disaster Management System(NDMS) managed the resources in the separated system. That is, one system is managed by regional disaster prevention system, the other is managed by the central disaster prevention system which receives the data from the regional disaster prevention system. Because the regional disaster prevention system updates the resource information quarterly, it is difficult to confirm the exact information. In this study, we propose the model which makes to supply in timely the resource to the disaster using the managed resource with RFID technology. Firstly, we classified the resources based on the resource types for the easily search. After then, we defined ID and attributes information of the resources. From the information, we described the management model for the real time resource.

  • The purpose of this ethnography is to describe and analyze the process of becoming a wild geese mother. Thirteen mothers from New York, California, and Texas of U.S.A. were interviewed with an unstructured questionnaire. There are several different patterns of the process; 'the short term', 're-departure after returning to Korea', 'a step to initiate their family's immigration', 'sudden and unintentional'. In the first stage of the family living rearrangement, the main issues are about the wider free world, proper time for leaving and proper period for staying, where to live and my husband's independent living. The wild geese mothers perform the concrete tasks about the everyday living for the new mother-child family in the foreign country. They report their subjective interpretation for their new life.
