EO Characteristics in the Advanced Vertical Alignment VA-$\pi$ Cell on a Homeotropic Blended Polymer (수직 복합 폴리머 표면을 이용한 Advanced VA-$\pi$ cell의 전기광학 특성)

  • Blending effects for generating a pretilt angle in nematic liquid crystal (NLC) with negative dielectric anisotropy on the blended polyimide (PI) of homeotropic and homogeneous alignment surface were studied. Also, we investigated the EO performances for the advanced VA-$\pi$ cell using this homeotropic blended PI surface. A many decrease of tilt angle on the polymer surface to blend homeotropic PI and homogeneous PI with side chain type was measured, and the tilt angle decreased as blended ratio and rubbing strength increase. The blended effects for generating a pretilt angle were clearly observed, and the many decrease of tilt angle can be achieved by using the blended PI surface. The electro-optical (EO) characteristics using the advanced VA-$\pi$ cell using the homeotropic blended PI surface than that of conventional VA cell can be improved. We suggest that the developed advanced VA-$\pi$ cell on a homeotropic blended PI surface is a promising technique for the achievement of a fast response time, and a high contrast ratio.

Changes in Onset Time of Lumbar Extensor Muscles and Pelvic Angle during Prone Hip Extension after the Abdominal Draw-in Exercise in Normal Women and Women with Weak Abdominal Muscles (복부근력이 약한 여성과 정상 여성에게 복부 드로우-인 운동 후 엉덩관절 폄 시 허리폄근의 근수축 개시시간과 골반각도의 변화)

  • Purpose : The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the abdominal draw-in (ADI) exercise on the onset times of the gluteus maximus (GM) and erector spinae (ES) as well as the pelvic anterior tilt angle during prone hip extension (PHE). Methods : A total of 24 female adults were divided into two groups: those with normal abdominal muscles (n=12) and those with weak abdominal muscles (WAM; n=12). Before the intervention, the onset times of the GM and ES along with the pelvic angle during PHE were measured. Subsequently, the participants conducted the ADI exercise for 10 minutes. After conducting the ADI exercise, the onset times and the pelvic angle were re-measured. Results : In the pre-intervention comparison between the two groups, the WAM group showed faster ES onset times and higher pelvic angle than the normal group (p<0.05). In the WAM group, the ES onset times were significantly delayed after the ADI exercise (p<0.05). In both groups, the pelvic angle was significantly decreased after the ADI exercise (p<0.05). The decrease in the pelvic angle was significantly greater in the WAM group than in the normal group (p<0.05). The GM onset time was found to be not significant in all comparisons (p>0.05). Conclusion : Therefore, it can be concluded that after performing the ADI exercise, the pelvic anterior tilt during PHE is decreased in normal women and those with WAM, especially in the WAM group, suggesting that the ADI exercise can reduce the compensatory pelvic anterior tilt more effectively by delaying the ES onset times.

  • The application of focused ion beam (FIB) technology in micro/nano machining has become increasingly popular. Its usage in micro/nano machining has advantages over contemporary photolithography or other micro/nano machining technologies such as small feature resolution, the ability to process without masks and being accommodating for a variety of materials and geometries. The target of this paper is the analysis of FIB sputtering process according to tilt angle, dwell time and overlap for application of 3D micro and pattern fabrication and to find the effective beam scanning conditions using Taguchi method. Therefore we make the conclusions that tilt angle is dominant parameter for sputtering yield. Burr size is reduced as tilt angle is higher.

  • A numerical study have been performed on a cavity with one heat source by the open ratio and tilt angle. The goal of this study is to get the information for designing a solar collector absorber. semi-conductor equipment and block heater and so on. The parameters for this study is the various open ratio. and tilt angle of the cavity and Rayleigh numbers The finite volume method with SIMPLE computational algorithm are used and calculated the heat transfer in the cavity. As a result, the heat trans(or was promoted by increase of Rayliegh numbers and open ratios But, the heat transfer was not promted at lower wall of cavity because the flow pattern are very small at lower space in the cavity(Or=0.1) As the Rayleigh number is increased the mean nusselt numbers are increased at inside wall.

The boundary conditions of a numerical model were assumed as follows : (1) The heat source is located at the center of absorber. (2) The bottom was is opened and adiabatic. (3) The top, right and left walls are cooled wall. The parameters for the study are the tilt angles and the aspect ratio. The velocity vectors and isotherms were dense at wall side and the heat source. The mean Nusselt number had a maximum value at Ar=1:1 and $\theta=0^{\circ}$ and showed a low value as the tilt angles were increased.

  • This paper proposes a tilt sensor made by MEMS technology. The sensor consists of an electrode glass a small mercury drop a circular channel and a cover glass. The mercury drop is used as medium of a current flow and in contact with two circular chromel electrodes used as an angular-motion resistance When this sensor inclines the mercury drop inside the circular channel moves into the bottom under the influence of gravity. A tilt angle can be measured by changed resistance as tilting this sensor, This sensor has a linear section between +50.$^{\circ}$ and -50.$^{\circ}$ with the accuracy of 2.$^{\circ}$. We are also studying about the enlargement of the linear section and the effect of the size of the mercury drop.

  • Numerical solutions of two-dimensional, steady, and natural are investigated in a confined rectangular cavity with porous media. The saturated fluid is bounded by two isothermal vertical walls at different temperatures and two adiabatic horizontal walls. Governing equations are numerically solved by finite difference method with the up wind scheme. Distributions of streamline and temperature we. predicted for aspect ratios ranging from 0.1 to 1.0, Rayleigh numbers 50 to $10^4$, and tilt angles $0^{\circ}\;to\;60^{\circ}$. Representative plots of temperature and velocity field according to tilt angle are presented. The effects of aspect ratio, Rayleigh number, and tilt angle on local and average Nusselt numbers are obtained. The optimum conditions for maximum Nusselt number are also presented with tilt angles.

  • In this paper, we have proposed and fabricated a two-axis rotational micro-mirror with large tilt angle. Such a micro-mirror is a key element for N$\times$N high capacity optical cross-connect switches. The micro-mirror is required to have large tilt angle to increase the capacity of the cross-connect switches. For larger micro-mirror tilt angle between the grounded mirror plate and the bottom electrode is to be large enough to provide space for the tilting of the mirror. For our proposed structure, the gap was produced in such a way that the grounded mirror plate and the bottom electrode were made separately in different substrates by using the bulk micromachining technology, and combined later by employing self-align technique. As a result, a large tilt angle has been achieved without using additional actuators. The measured tilt angles were as large as $\pm$5.5$^{\circ}$ and $\pm$8.4$^{\circ}$ in the x and y direction respectively, and the pull-in voltages for the two directions were 380 V and 275 V respectively. Finally the fabricated mirror was successfully utilized to steer the optical beam. To our knowledge, our micro-mirror has the best performance among the micro-mirrors reported internationally so far.

  • In optical disc system, 4-wire actuator has undesired tilt which degenerates the performance of RF signal. This tilt occurs from moment around the axis parallel to the tangential direction of the disk. The main reason of the moment is the coupling effect between focus driving system and tracking driving system. This paper constructed tilt mechanism and analyzed tilt quantity due to the moment based on structural analysis and magnetic field analysis. And the experiment about tilt was executed. The results were compared and discussed about the difference. Then, the design method for reducing tilt angle was suggested.
