  • An extension of TOPMODEL was developed for rainfall-runoff simulation in agricultural watersheds equipped with tile drains. Tile drain functions are incorporated into the framework of TOPMODEL. Nine possible flow generation scenarios are suggested for tile drained watershed and applied in the modeling procedure. In the model development process, the traditional physically based storage approach and a new approach using a transfer function for the simulation of the flow in the unsaturated zone were compared. In order to provide better insight into the simulation process, a regionalized sensitivity analysis was performed to test the performance of the model and to compare the behavior of the transfer function to that of the simple storage related formulation. The results of analysis show good performance of the transfer function approach. Since the rainfall-runoff response pattern tends to vary seasonally, seven events distributed throughout a year were used in the sensitivity analysis to investigate the seasonal variation of the hydrologic characteristics. It is found that the sensitivity of each parameter described by the model are varied seasonally.

  • A new method, so called MMA(Method of Moving Asymptotes) was applied to the optimization problems of non-linear functions and non-linear structures. In each step of the iterative process, tile MMA generates a strictly convex approximation subproblems and solves them by using the dual problems. The generation of these subproblems is controlled by so called 'moving asymptotes', which may both make no oscillation and speed up tile convergence rate of optimization process. By contrast in generalized dual function, the generated function by MMA is always explicit type. Both the objective and behaviour constraints which were approximated are optimized by dual function. As the results of some examples, it was found that this method is very effective to obtain the global solution for problems with many local solutions. Also it was found that MMA is a very effective approximate method using the original function and its 1st derivatives.

  • This paper is about a high-speed MAC (multiplier and accumulator) design applying radix-4 and radix-8 Booth's algorithm at the same time. The optimized hybrid radix design for high speed MAC has taken advantage of both a radix-4 and a radix-8 architectures. A radix-4 architecture meets high-speed, but it takes much more power and chip area than a radix-8 architecture. A radix-8 architecture needs less power and chip area than the other, but it has a bottleneck of generating three times the multiplicand problem. An optimized hybrid architecture performs tile radix-4 multiplication partially in parallel with the generation of three times the multiplicand for use of tile radix-8 multiplication. It reduces the concerned bit width of multiplier in radix-8 multiplication.

  • In this study, in order to improve the impact resistance of the B4C tile-inserted B4Cp/Al7075 hybrid composite, a control method of the B4C/Al7075 interface was developed and the characteristics of the controlled interface were analyzed. B2O3, Ni, and Si were coated on the B4C tile surface using additional thermal oxidation, electroless plating, and plasma spraying. The coated B4C tile is inserted into the B4Cp/Al7075 composite material using the liquid pressurization method. Interfacial energy, bonding strength, and impact resistance were measured to analyze the effect of the coating. All coatings enhanced interfacial energy, bonding strength, and impact resistance, and in particular, it was confirmed that the impact resistance increased by 86.8% when B2O3 coating was used. This study is significant in developing and analyzing a core surface treatment method that improves the performance of B4C/Al series composites, which are attracting attention as next-generation lightweight amour and bulletproof materials.

  • This paper analyzes the singularity of an anthropomorphic robot associated with joint and operational stiffness generation from muscle stiffness. The singularity analysis is made simply based on the signs of the actual and the desired coupling joint stiffness. First, the relationships of the muscle stiffness and the actual joint stiffness, and the operational stiffness and the desired joint stiffness are examined. Second, according to the sign restriction on the actual coupling joint stiffness, the operational space is divided into the semi-singular(SS), the regular(R), and the semi-regular(SR) regions. Third, from the sign comparison of tile actual and the desired coupling joint stiffness, the sufficient condition for the semi-singularity in operational stiffness generation is derived. The limitation on the allowable operational stiffness when a task point belongs to SS, R, and SR regions is also discussed. Simulation results are given.

  • This paper proposes a simple and systematic method for the generation of the fault detection test sets for the combinational logic networks. Based on tile path sensitizing concept, the test patterns for the primary input gates of the network are defined, and then it is shown that, arranging these predefined test patterns according to the path sensitizing characteristics of the given network sturctures, the minimal complete test sets for the fan-out free combinational networks can be found easily. It is also shown that, taking into account the fan-out paths sensitizing compatibility, the proposed method can be extended to the irredundant reconvergent fan-out networks.

  • This paper deals with an improved method of utilizing end-to-end bandwidth in the All-IP environment. The proposed method includes compression of UDP/RTP headers, and multiplexing of the RTP stream packets over the end-to-and media transfer. Although the conventional method of using TCRTP(Tunneling Multiplexed Compressed RTP) is an efficient mettled of maximizing tile network throughput, it is inadequate for the All-IP based end-to-end communication. The method is a link-layer independent solution that can be easily implemented in the NGN(Next Generation Network).

  • In this paper, path generation using the sensor platform is proposed. The sensor platform is composed two electric motors which make panning and tilting motions. An algorithm fur a real path form and an obstacle length is realized using a scanning algorithm to rotating the sensors on the sensor platform. An ARV (Autonomous Robot Vehicle) is able to recognize the given path by adapting this algorithm. In order for the ARV to navigate the path flexibly, a kinematic model needed to be constructed. The kinematic model of the ARV was reformed around its body center through a relative velocity relationship to controllability, which derives from the nonholonomic characteristics. The optimal controller that is based on tile kinematic model is operated purposefully to track a reference vehicle's path. The path generation algorithm is composed of two parks. On e part is the generating path pattern, and the other is used to avoid an obstacle. The optimal controller is used for tracking the reference path which is generated by recognizing the path pattern. Results of simulation show that this algorithm for an ARV is sufficient for path generation by small number of sensors and for low cost controller.

  • After USA removed the Selective Availability(SA), Global Positioning System(GPS) has monopolized tile world market and other countries have been depended on GPS, absolutely So the other countries, Russia, European Community(EC) and Japan, which apprehend to monopolize in technical and strategic parts, are developing the next generation GNSS including GLONASS Galileo and JRANS. And the countries are planning to provide the another GNSS. This research has focused on the next generation GNSS system based on GPS and Galileo system with developing a GNSS simulation software, named as GIMS2005, which generates and analyzes satellite constellation and measurements. Based on the software, a variety of simulation tests have been carried out to recognize limits of GPS-only system and potential benefits of integrated GPS/Galileo positioning In terms of satellite geometry strength and solution accuracy.
