  • In this paper, prior to the flight model X-band dual-mode circular cavity filter required for the high power transmission of the observation payload in the geostationary satellite, the development model are designed and analyzed to show the analytical multipactor requirement margin. First of all, the multipaction breakdown power sensitivities were analyzed by changing the iris width and thickness within the filter, and through that the iris width and thickness was selected and then the multipaction threshold powers over the frequencies within the bandwidth were analyzed and the required margin of 8 dB was obtained. Also for the high power transmission filter, another important phenomena known as corona breakdown are analyzed for the iris width and thickness changes. Finally the development model manufactured was tested and the results met the key requirements.

  • In recent years, there have been frequent occurrences of collapsing buildings and tilting accidents due to frequent earthquakes and aging of buildings. Various methods have been proposed to prevent disasters on these buildings. In this paper, we propose a system algorithm that provides an indication of anomalous phenomena such as collapse and tilting of buildings by real - time monitoring of IoT (Internet of Things) - based architectural anomalies. The multi-advanced sensor is based on the Inclinometer sensor and the Accelerometer sensor, transmits the detected data to the server in real time, accumulates the data, and provides the service to cope when the set threshold value is different. It is possible to evacuate and repair the collapse and tilting of the building by warning the occurrence of the upper threshold event event such as the collapse and tilting of the building.

  • Austenitic stainless steels(SUS 304, SUS 316), which are used for safety control valve of LNG carrier, are occasionally exposed in the cryogenic environment. In this regards, it is required to evaluate the mechanical characteristics under the low temperature environment. In this study, a series of uniaxial tensile test was carried out varying temperature for austenitic stainless steel. The phenomena of the strain-induced plasticity have been observed on the all temperature ranges. The critical value for threshold of 2nd hardening due to the phase transformation induced plasticity as well as the increase of hardening have been reported. The summarized experimental results would be used for the validation of numerical techniques applicable for the nonlinear hardening behavior of austenitic stainless steel under the cryogenic temperature environment.

  • The lightness of components required in the automobile and machine industry necessitates the use of high strength components. In particular, the fatigue failure phenomena, which occurs when using metal, increases the danger to human life and property. Therefore, antifatigue failure technology is an integral part of current industries. Currently, the shot peening is used for removing the defect from the surface of steel, while improving the fatigue strength on surface. Therefore, in this paper, the effect of compressive residual stress of spring steel(JISG SUP-9) by shot-peening on fatigue crack growth characteristics in a stress ratio(R=0.1, R=0.3, R=0.6) was investigated, giving consideration to fracture mechanics. By using the methods mentioned above, following conclusions are drawn: (1) The fatigue crack growth rate(da/dN) of the shot-peening material was lower than that of the un-peening material and in stage I, ΔKth, the threshold stress intensity factor of the shot-peen processed material is high in critical parts, unlike the un-peening material. Also m, fatigue crack growth exponent and number of cycle of the shot-peening material, was higher than that of the un-peening material, as concluded from effect of da/dN. (2) Fatigue life shows more improvement in the shot-peening material than in the un-peening material, and the compressive residual stress of surface on the shot-peen processed operate resistance of fatigue crack propagation.

  • Friction causes self-excited vibration, stick-slip vibration and any other friction-induced phenomena. That kinds of vibrations cause chatter and squeal. In order to predict such vibrations accurately, employing an accurate friction model is very important because a dynamic behavior of a system with friction is dominantly governed by a friction model. A Coulomb friction model is the most widely known model. Coulomb friction model is useful model to obtain analytical solutions of the system with friction and the model gives relatively good simulation result. However, defining a friction force at a stick state in simulation is hard because of the characteristic itself and a Coulomb friction model is discontinuous function between a static and a dynamic friction coefficient. Therefore, applying the Coulomb friction model to a simulation is not appropriate. In order to resolve these problems, an approximated Coulomb friction model was developed using simple and continuous function. However, an approximated Coulomb friction model cannot realize stick. Therefore, an approximated Coulomb friction model cannot describe friction phenomena accurately. In order to analyze a friction phenomenon accurately, a friction model for a simulation was proposed in this paper. A proposed friction model realizes stick and gives reasonably good results compared to results obtained by the simulation employing an approximated Coulomb friction model. Accuracy of a proposed friction model was verified by comparing experimental results.

  • Complete mixture preparation of reactants prior to catalytic reforming is an enormously important step for successful operation of a fuel reformer. Incomplete mixing between fuel and reforming agents such as air and steam can cause temperature overshoot and deposit formation which can lead the failure of operation. For that purpose it is required to apply computational models describing coupled kinetics and transport phenomena in the mixing region, which are computationally expensive. Therefore, it is advantageous to analyze the gas-phase reaction kinetics prior to application of the coupled model. This study suggests one of the important design constraints, the required residence time in the mixing chamber to avoid substantial gas-phase reactions which can lead serious deposit formation on the downstream catalyst. The reactivity of various gaseous and liquid fuels were compared, then liquid fuels are far more reactive than gaseous fuels. n-Octane was used as a surrogate among the various hydrocarbons, which is one of the traditional liquid fuel surrogates. The conversion was slighted effected by reactants composition described by O/C and S/C. Finally, threshold residence times in the mixing region of a hydrocarbon reformer were studied and the mixing chamber is required to be designed to make complete mixture of reactants by tens of milliseconds at the temperature lower than $400^{\circ}C$.

  • Interfacial reactions kinetics often differ from kinetics of bulk reactions. Here, we describe how the density change of an immobilized reactant influences the kinetics of interfacial reactions. Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of alkanethiolates on gold were used as a model interface and the Diels-Alder reaction between immobilized quinones and soluble cyclopentadiene was used as a model reaction. The kinetic behavior was studied using varying concentrations of quinones. An unusual threshold density of quinones (${\Gamma}_c$ = 5.2-7.2%), at which the pseudo-first order rate constant started to vary as the reaction progressed, was observed. This unexpected kinetic behavior was attributed to the phase-separation phenomena of multi-component SAMs. Additional experiments using more phase-separated two-component SAMs supported this explanation by revealing a significant decrease in ${\Gamma}_c$ values. When the background hydroxyl group was replaced with carboxylic or phosphoric acid groups, ${\Gamma}_c$ was observed at below 1%. Also, more phase-separated thermodynamically controlled SAMs produced a lower critical density (3% < ${\Gamma}_c$ < 4.9%) than that of the less phaseseparated kinetically controlled SAMs (6.5% < ${\Gamma}_c$ < 8.9%).

  • The effect of nematic liquid crystal(5CB-4-Cyano-4'-pentylbiphenyl) on the amorphous indium gallium zinc oxide thin film transistors(a-IGZO TFTs) was investigated. Through dropping the 5CB on the a-IGZO TFT's channel layer which is deposited by RF-magnetron sputtering, properties of a-IGZO TFTs was dramatically improved. When drain bias was induced, 5CB molecules were oriented by Freedericksz transition generating positive charges to one side of dipoles. From increment of the capacitance by orientation of liquid crystals, the drain current was increased, and we analyzed these phenomena mathematically by using MOSFET model. Transfer characteristic showed improvement such as decreasing of subthreshold slope(SS) value 0.4 to 0.2 and 0.45 to 0.25 at linear region and saturation region, respectively. Furthermore, in positive bias system(PBS), prevention effect for electron trapping by 5CB liquid crystal dipoles was observed, which showing decrease of threshold voltage shift [(${\delta}V$]_TH) when induced +20V for 1~1000sec at the gate electrode.

  • Characteristics of fatigue crack propagation in martensite-ferrite duel phase steels have been investigated. In low .DELTA.K region, fatigue crack propagation resistance increases with increasing volume fraction of martensite, but the difference of crack propagation resistance resulted from the volume fraction decreases with increasing .DELTA.K. Also, threshold stress intensity factor range .DELTA.K$_{th}$ increases with increasing volume fraction of martensite, But fatigue crack propagation rates of dual-phase steels in terms of .DELTA.K$_{eff}$ are independent to volume fraction of martensite. These phenomena can be explained by the roughness induced crack closure due to crack deflection.n.n.
