  • This paper explores the non-linear behavior of tapered beam subjected to a floating concentration load. For applying the Bernoulli-Euler beam theory to this beam, the bending moment at any point of elastical is obtained from the final equilibrium stage. By using the bending moment equation and the Bernoulli-Euler beam theory, the differential equations governing the elastica of simple beam are derived , and solved numberically . Three kinds of tapered beam types are considered . The numerical results of the non-linear behavior obtained in this study are agreed quite well to the results obtained from the laboratory-scale experiments.

  • Although much research has been carried out using recycled aggregates sourced from normal strength concrete, most of the buildings to be demolished are constructed with low strength concrete. Therefore, the properties of the concrete incorporating recycled aggregates, sourced from the waste of structural elements cast with low strength concrete, were investigated in this study. Four different concrete mixtures were designed incorporating natural and recycled aggregates with and without fly ash. The results of the mechanical and durability tests of the concrete mixtures are presented. Additionally, full-scale one-way reinforced concrete slabs were cast, using these concrete mixtures, and subjected to bending test. The feasibility of using conventional reinforced concrete theory for the slabs made with structural concrete incorporating recycled aggregates was investigated.

  • A USW based diagnostic procedure is presented for estimating the depth of surface-breaking cracks. The diagnosis is demonstrated on seven lab-scale SFRC beam specimens, which are subjected to the CMOD controlled three-point bending test to create real bending cracks. Then, the recorded multiple ultrasonic signals are examined with the signal processing techniques, including wavelet transform and two-dimensional Fourier transform, to investigate the relationships between the crack depth and two diagnostic indices, namely the attenuation coefficient and dispersion index (DI). Finally, the reliabilities of these indices for depth estimation are verified with the visually measured crack depths as well as the crack features obtained with a digital image processing algorithm. It is found that the DI outperforms the attenuation coefficient in depth estimation, where this index displays good agreement with the visual inspection for 86% of the inspected specimens.

  • The quantitative interfacial adhesion energy measurement method of copper redistribution layer and WPR dielectric interface were investigated using $90^{\circ}$ peel test, 4-point bending test, double cantilever beam (DCB) measurement for FOWLP Applications. Measured interfacial adhesion energy values of all three methods were higher than $5J/m^2$, which is considered as a minimum criterion for reliable Cu/low-k integration with CMP processes without delamination. Measured energy values increase with increasing phase angle, that is, in order of DCB, 4-point bending test, and $90^{\circ}$ peel test due to increasing roughness-related shielding and plastic energy dissipation effects, which match well interfacial fracture mechanics theory. Considering adhesion specimen preparation process, phase angle, measurement accuracy and bonding energy levels, both DCB and 4-point bending test methods are recommended for quantitative adhesion energy measurement of RDL interface depending on the real application situations.

  • In the research on the fracture time of soda lime silicate glass under thermal shock, it is shown that the theoretical and experimental fracture times are in good agreement, the suggested method to measure critical stress intensity factor for small three-point bending specimen is useful and the edge temperature before thermal shock on cracked side vs. crack length and fracture time are inversely proportional.

  • Concrete is an inhomogeneous material consisting of larger aggregates and sand embedded in a cement paste matrix. In this study, an acoustic emission technique has been used to clarify the microscope failure mechanisms of concrete under three point bending test. AE source location has also been done to monitor the activities of internal damage and the progress of microscopic failure path during the loading. The relationship between AE characteristic and microscopic and microscopic failure mechanism is discussed.

  • Excellent environmental durability and handy installation procedure as well as high specific strength and stiffness have introduced fiber-reinforced polymeric composite materials into the civil and architectural engineering field. This study presents the considerably enhanced strength characteristics of the mortal beams by being reinforced with epoxy-bonded carbon fiber sheets(CFS). Three point bending and Charpy impact tests were performed on both of bare and reinforced mortar specimens. The influences of length, and the number of reinforcing plies were investigated. Strength reduction due to pre-existent notch was lessened dramatically. The acoustic emission(AE) measurement revealed the progressive damage process in reinforced specimens.

  • The tincture toughness is evaluated by using U(compact tension) and 3PB(three point bending) specimens of AI alloys far propulsive engine. To evaluate the static fracture toughness, strain gage method is used. The static fracture toughness obtained from the strain measurement is compared with the results by ASTM standard and FEM analysis. For the reliable evaluation of fracture toughness, strain gages are attached at various positions.

  • Acoustic emission technique is applied to the fatigue crack initiation in a carburized gear tooth. Acoustic emission test performed on carburized gear and three-point bending test equal to carburized gear hardness. The marked acoustic emission are detected at the early stage of crack initiation measured by a crack gauge and the final stage just before the tooth failure. The estimated acoustic emission energy rate are characteristic of the measured acoustic emission.

  • The behavior of properties of ion exchanged substrate glasses was investigated in this study. In order to study the effects of ion exchange, ion exchange behavior with ion penetration depth, amount of ion exchange, density and thermal expansion was measured according to the time and temperature. The mechanical properties were evaluated by the three point bending test and curvature change, and then fracture patterns were investigated by optical microscope.
